Figure 3 Special stains under oil immersion: Mucicarmine highlights the characteristic gelatinous capsule (blue arrowheads), useful to differentiate from Blastomyces. Grocott’s methenamine silver stain highlights the characteristic narrow based “Teardrop shaped” budding (orange arrowheads), useful to differentiate from Blastomyces and Histoplasma.
