Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are generated from pre-mRNAs. A loop structure is formed through back-splicing driven by the pairing of intronic complementary sequences. CircRNA is eventually formed by removing the intron sequences in the loop structure. CircRNAs sponge microRNAs to decrease their availability to bind and inhibit target mRNAs, leading to the expression of the target mRNAs. circRNA: Circular RNAs.
