After oral administration, aggregation-induced emission luminogens (AIEgens) pass through the mucosal layer through the damaged intestinal barrier site. 1AIEgens spontaneously aggregate and are retained. 2AIEgens track macrophages, aggregate, and are retained at the inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) site.
