Notification of Baishideng Distinguished Award winners of 2018

To encourage authors to publish their original and innovative articles describing Basic study, Clinical study, Case report and/or Review in any of the 43 open-access publications of the Baishideng Publishing Group (BPG) and to praise their outstanding contributions towards improving the quality of BPG’s journals, we have set up the Baishideng Distinguished Award (BDA) to thank them for their trust and support in our mission. Herein, the winners of the BDA in 2018 are announced:

1 Overview

In 2018, the 43 open-access publications of BPG received a total of 6,328 submitted manuscripts, among which 5,367 (84.8%) were submitted to the 42 English–language journals and 961 (15.2%) to the 1 Chinese-language journal. The 42 English–language journals published 1202 articles and the Chinese-language journal published 326 articles, accounting for 78.7% and 21.3% of the total 1528 published articles respectively. We received a total of 2954 comments on the article quality evaluations from the editorial board members, among which 2063 were on English-language articles and 891 on Chinese-language articles.

2 Results

2.1 First prize: No articles met the selection criteria for the first prize.

2.2 Second prize: No articles met the selection criteria for the second prize.

2.3 Third prize: Five articles met the selection criteria for the third prize. The BDA winners were selected according to their article’s category of recommendation and its academic influence. The indexes for determining academic influence involve the number of citations, clicks and downloads that the paper received. After comprehensive evaluation, five high-quality articles earned the third prize designation. Each of those articles’ groups of authors will be awarded 2000 USD and presented an official certificate for their BDA. The detailed information for these five articles is presented in Table 1.

About the Baishideng Distinguished Award

1 Award aims: To praise the authors who have made outstanding contributions to their field by publishing original and innovative articles describing Basic study, Clinical study, Case report and/or Review in any of the 43 open-access publications of the Baishideng Publishing Group (BPG) and to thank such authors for their contributions, we have set up the Baishideng Distinguished Award (BDA) to track the quality of articles and award their authors. The BDA-winning publications represent meaningful contributions towards promoting the ability of readers to get the latest research results and towards the development of medical science.

2 Selection methods: Editorial board members track the quality of the published articles in each issue, so that they can recognize excellent articles and categorize them for BDA prize recommendation. Then, the annual BDA winners will be selected according to the recommendation categories and the academic influence of the articles. The indexes for academic influence of the articles involve the number of citations, clicks and downloads that the paper received.

3 Number of awards: Among the articles published in the 43 journals of BPG, up to 12 total articles (3 Reviews, 3 Basic studies, 3 Clinical studies, and 3 Case reports) will be recognized and their authors awarded.

4 Award amounts: The first prize will be 5000 USD. The second prize will be 3000 USD. The third prize will be 2000 USD. In addition, each winner will be presented an official certificate for their BDA.
