The Baishideng Publishing Group (BPG) is counted among the first journal publishers to practice the open access journal (OAJ) publishing model. Since publication of its first OAJ in 2004, BPG has successfully transformed from an in-print subscription-based publisher to an electronic OAJ-based publisher. BPG has a well-established and comprehensive workflow to support adaptation of new publishing processes and to create and implement innovative ways for reading and sourcing information in the digital environment. Our successes in promoting communication among scientific and medical communities are founded upon our open-mindedness and our commitment to ensuring transparency in the peer-review and publication processes for authors and readers.

At BPG, we engage in accelerating interdisciplinary cross-border research and promoting scholarly communication. The OA publishing model allows us to reach all readers by eliminating cost barriers and other challenges related to physical delivery. We continually strive to improve our users experience in the digital environment, and our efforts include:

• Providing articles in multiple formats, including HTML, PDF, and DOC;

• Publishing E-books of case reports, an OA compendium of full-text articles provided to readers for free;

• Building transparency by providing open access to the Peer-Review Reports and Authors’ Responses for each published article;

• Constructing sustainable digital preservation archives with open access.

All articles published by BPG are selected by an in-house editor and fully peer-reviewed by external reviewers. BPG applies the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial (CC BY-NC 4.0) license, which permits others to distribute, remix, adapt, build upon this work non-commercially, and license their derivative works on different terms, provided the original work is properly cited and the use is non-commercial.
