Core Tip
Core Tip: Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly entering gastrointestinal and complex surgical care, but its effect on nursing practice has not been clearly defined. This review argues that AI implementation should be evaluated not only by algorithmic performance, but also by its influence on nursing workflow, escalation, documentation, communication, early complication recognition, and patient safety. A structured set of nursing-sensitive performance metrics may help institutions assess whether AI tools genuinely improve perioperative care delivery in complex surgical settings.
