Abstract
BACKGROUND Apheresis platelets is a common platelets collection method with high purity and relatively few adverse reactions. This study aimed to explore the effects of multiple apheresis platelet donations on the condition of iron nutrition and platelet parameters of donors in China. METHODS Eligible studies were selected from PubMed, EMBASE, Wanfang, CQVIP, and the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) databases. Pooled serum ferritin (SF), serum iron (SI), transferrin (TRF), soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR), platelet count (PLT), mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet distribution width (PDW), and platelet crit (PCT) were analyzed by weighted mean difference (WMD). Heterogeneity was detected by the Cochran Q test and I2 statistical test. RESULTS Pooled SF (WMD =-20.837, 95 % CI = -26.403 - -15.271) and SI (WMD = -3.828, 95 % CI = -6.516 - -1.139) were significantly decreased; while TRF (WMD = 0.821, 95 % CI = 0.271-1.371) and sTfR (WMD = 0.846, 95 % CI = 0.442-1.250) were increased by multiple apheresis platelet donations. PLT (WMD = 14.894, 95 % CI = 2.574-27.215) and PCT (WMD = 0.035, 95 % CI = 0.005-0.064) were increased, but MPV (WMD = -0.359, 95 % CI = -0.571 - -0.147) was reduced by multiple donations. Subgroup analysis indicated study design is a source of heterogeneity. CONCLUSION Multiple apheresis platelets could lead to iron deficiency and suppress platelet function in comparison with first-time apheresis platelets.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Serum uric acid (SUA) may be involved in the development of cancer by inhibiting oxidative stress, but its relationship with breast cancer remains unclear. MATERIALS AND METHODS The PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases were searched systematically for studies on SUA levels in women with breast cancer and the effect of SUA levels on the risk of breast cancer. The Newcastle‒Ottawa Quality Assessment Scale (NOS) was used to assess the quality of all relevant studies included. RESULTS A total of 19 studies were included, including 75,827 women with breast cancer and 508,528 healthy controls. A meta-analysis found that SUA levels were negatively correlated with breast cancer risk in women (HR = 0.94, 95% CI: 0.89 - 0.99, p = 0.003). SUA levels in female breast cancer patients were not significantly different from those in healthy controls (SMD = 0.49, 95% CI = -0.09 - 1.08, p = 0.10), while SUA levels were increased in female breast cancer patients in articles published after 2010, SUA concentration detected by spectrophotometry, and non-Asian populations, regardless of menopausal state and treatment state. CONCLUSION High levels of SUA may reduce the risk of breast cancer in women, suggesting that SUA was a protective factor in women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We conducted an investigation into the correlation between HOXA and associated long-noncoding RNAs, along with their clinicopathologic and prognostic features in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). METHODS A comprehensive search across multiple electronic databases, including PubMed and the Web of Science, was conducted to identify relevant studies. The association between HOXA, clinicopathologic parameters, and prognosis was assessed using relative risk (RR) and hazard ratio (HR) with a 95% confidence interval (CI). Data compilation was performed using STATA 12.0 software. RESULTS A total of 11 trials involving 2058 patients with NSCLC were included in our study. Significant correlations were observed between HOXA-AS2 and TNM stage (III-IV) (RR=2.173, 95% CI: 1.386-5.437, P< 0.05) and HOTTIP and age (≥60-year-old) (RR=2.628, 95% CI: 1.185-5.829, P< 0.05) and non-smoking (RR=0.387, 95% CI: 0.156-0.959, P< 0.05). The combined results indicated a significant association between HOXA5 and increased overall survival (HR = 0.69, 95% CI = 0.57-0.84, P < .001). Additionally, HOXA-AS2, HOXA11 and HOTTIP were identified as potential independent predictors for poorer OS (HOXA-AS2: HR =3.48, 95% CI = 1.95 to 6.21, P < 0.05; HOXA11: HR=1.39, 95%CI = 1.08 to 1.79, P < 0.05; HOTTIP: HR=2.44, 95%CI = 1.10 to 5.42, P < 0.05). The prognostic significance of HOXA1, HOXA3 and HOXA4 was uncertain (HOXA1: HR=1.40, 95% CI =0.28 to 7.06, P > 0.05; HOXA3: HR=1.20, 95% CI = 0.96 to 1.50, P > 0.05; HOXA4: HR=0.97, 95% CI = 0.77 to 1.23, P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The HOXA gene family has some potential to emerge as a novel prognostic factor for NSCLC and is correlated with some clinicopathological parameters such as the TNM stage, age and smoking. However, further meticulously designed prospective studies are warranted to substantiate these findings.

Abstract
PURPOSE This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the performance of the Injury Severity Score (ISS), Trauma and Injury Severity Score (TRISS), and the Geriatric Trauma Outcome Score (GTOS) in predicting mortality in geriatric trauma patients. METHODS The MEDLINE, Web of Science, and EMBASE databases were searched for studies published from January 2008 to October 2023. Studies assessing the performance of the ISS, TRISS, or GTOS in predicting mortality in geriatric trauma patients (over 60 years old) and reporting data for the analysis of the pooled area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) and the hierarchical summary receiver operating characteristic curve (HSROC) were included. Studies that were not conducted in a group of geriatric patients, did not consider mortality as the outcome variable, or had incomplete data were excluded. The Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) Clinical Prediction Rule Checklist was utilized to assess the risk of bias in included studies. STATA 16.0. was used for the AUROC analysis and HSROC analysis. RESULTS Nineteen studies involving 118,761 geriatric trauma patients were included. The pooled AUROC of the TRISS (AUC = 0.82, 95% CI: 0.77-0.87) was higher than ISS (AUC = 0.74, 95% CI: 0.71-0.79) and GTOS (AUC = 0.80, 95%CI: 0.77-0.83). The diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) calculated from HSROC curves also suggested that the TRISS (DOR = 21.5) had a better performance in predicting mortality in geriatric trauma patients than the ISS (DOR = 6.27) and GTOS (DOR = 4.76). CONCLUSION This meta-analysis suggested that the TRISS showed better accuracy and performance in predicting mortality in geriatric trauma patients than the ISS and GTOS.

Abstract
PURPOSE To identify the clinical effect of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) among esophageal cancer patients undergoing esophagectomy based on randomized controlled trials (RCTs). METHODS Several databases were searched for relevant RCTs up to August 23, 2023. Primary outcomes were respiratory muscle function, including the maximum inspiratory pressure (MIP) and maximum expiratory pressure (MEP), and pulmonary function, including the forced expiratory volume in one second % (FEV1%), forced vital capacity% (FVC%), maximal ventilator volume (MVV), FEV1/FVC% and FVC. The secondary outcomes were exercise performance, including the six-minute walk distance test (6MWT) and Borg index; mental function and quality of life, as evaluated by the Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale (HADS) and Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) score; and postoperative complications. All the statistical analyses were performed with REVMAN 5.3 software. RESULTS Eight RCTs were included in this meta-analysis, with 368 patients receiving IMT and 371 control subjects. The pooled results demonstrated that IMT could significantly enhance respiratory muscle function (MIP: MD = 7.14 cmH2O, P = 0.006; MEP: MD = 8.15 cmH2O, P<0.001) and pulmonary function (FEV1%: MD = 6.15%, P<0.001; FVC%: MD = 4.65%, P<0.001; MVV: MD = 8.66 L, P<0.001; FEV1/FVC%: MD = 5.27%, P = 0.03; FVC: MD = 0.50 L, P<0.001). Furthermore, IMT improved exercise performance (6MWT: MD = 66.99 m, P = 0.02; Borg index: MD = -1.09, P<0.001), mental function and quality of life (HADS anxiety score: MD = -2.26, P<0.001; HADS depression score: MD = -1.34, P<0.001; NHP total score: MD = -48.76, P<0.001). However, IMT did not significantly decrease the incidence of postoperative complications. CONCLUSION IMT improves clinical outcomes, such as respiratory muscle function and pulmonary function, in esophageal cancer patients receiving esophagectomy and has potential for broad applications in the clinic.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The results of studies on the association between polymorphisms in the FSHR gene and the risk of POR undergoing IVF have been inconsistent with each other, so we conducted a meta-analysis of all the available studies to explore the association between polymorphisms in the FSHR gene and the risk of POR. METHODS Literature that met the inclusion criteria was collected by searching six electronic databases and basic data from included studies were extracted. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to assess the strength of association between follicle-stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR) gene polymorphism and poor ovarian response (POR) risk. Begg's and Egger's tests were used to determine whether there was publication bias, and sensitivity analysis and TSA analysis were used to verify the stability and reliability of the results. RESULTS We included 24 articles, 22 of which explored rs6166, including 2,206 cases and 3,897 controls. 6 articles explored rs6165, including 444 cases and 875 controls. Under additive, heterozygote, and dominant models, rs6166 was significantly associated with POR (S vs. N: OR = 1.29, 95 % CI = 1.05-1.59, P = 0.017; NS vs. NN: OR = 1.33, 95 % CI = 1.02-1.74, P = 0.038; NS + SS vs. NN: OR = 1.38, 95 % CI = 1.04-1.84, P = 0.025). In ethnicity-based subgroup analyses, the additive, homozygote, heterozygote, and dominant models increased Asian POR risk. Among the five genetic models, rs6165 was significantly associated with POR (T vs. C: OR = 1.64, 95 % CI = 1.25-2.16, P = 0.000; TT vs. CC: OR = 2.76, 95 % CI = 1.43-5.32, P = 0.003; CT vs. CC: OR = 1.58, 95 % CI = 1.19-2.10, P = 0.001; TT vs. CC + CT: OR = 2.32, 95 % CI = 1.67-3.23, P = 0.000; CT + TT vs. CC: OR = 1.80, 95 % CI = 1.22-2.65, P = 0.003). In ethnicity-based subgroup analyses, all five genetic models increased the risk of POR in Caucasians. CONCLUSION According to the current meta-analysis, the rs6166 S allele was significantly associated with an increased risk of POR, especially in Asian populations. The rs6165 T allele was significantly associated with an increased risk of POR, especially in Caucasian populations.

Abstract
PURPOSE To further identify the effectiveness of trans-nasal humidified rapid insufflation ventilatory exchange (THRIVE) for pre- and apneic oxygenation during the anesthesia induction by comparison to facemask ventilation (FMV) based on current available evidence. METHODS Medline, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library and CNKI databases were searched from inception to December 22, 2023 for available randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Primary outcomes were PaO2 and PaCO2 after intubation and safe apnoea time. Secondary outcomes included the O2 desaturation, end expiratory carbon dioxide (EtCO2) and complications. The effect measures for continuous and categorical outcomes were separately the mean difference (MD) and relative risk (RR) with 95% confidence interval. RESULTS Twelve RCTs with 403 patients in the THRIVE group and 401 patients in th FMV group were included. Pooled results demonstrated that the PaO2 after intubation was significantly higher (MD = 82.90mmHg, 95% CI: 12.25~153.54mmHg, P = 0.02) and safe apnoea time (MD = 103.81s, 95% CI: 42.07~165.56s, P = 0.001) was longer in the THRIVE group. Besides, the incidence rate of O2 desaturation (RR = 0.28, 95% CI: 0.12-0.66, P = 0.004) and gastric insufflation (RR = 0.26, 95% CI: 0.13-0.49, P<0.001) was significantly lower in the THRIVE group. CONCLUSION Based on current evidence, THRIVE manifested better effectiveness representing as improved oxygenation, prolonged safe apnoea time and decreased risk of complications compared to standard FMV in surgical patients. Therefore, THRIVE could be served as a novel and valuable oxygenation technology for patients during anesthesia induction.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the association of SOX2 with the prognosis in lung cancer, studies providing survival information were selected based on multivariate Cox regression analysis. MATERIAL AND METHODS PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases were searched to identify eligible studies before June 19, 2021. The hazard ratios (HR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated to assess the prognostic impact of SOX2 based on multivariate Cox regression analysis. Publication bias was used to assess the risk of bias. Functional analysis of SOX2 was also conducted. RESULTS 13 studies with a total of 2008 patients with lung cancer were included. SOX2 expression was not correlated with overall survival in lung cancer (10 studies with 1591 cases). Between-study heterogeneity was noted (I2=85.6%, p<0.0001). Subgroup analysis suggested that no correlation was found between SOX2 expression and overall survival in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC: eight studies with 1319 cases) and small-cell lung cancer (SCLC: two studies with 272 cases). SOX2 expression was significantly associated with worse time-to-progression (two studies with 104 cases: HR=3.50, 95% CI=1.34-9.15) and recurrence-free survival (two studies with 335 cases: HR=1.45, 95% CI=1.12-1.87) in NSCLC. Function analysis demonstrated that SOX2 was involved in DNA repair, cell cycle, regulation of stem cell population maintenance, and Hippo signaling pathway. CONCLUSION SOX2 may be an independent prognostic factor in time-to-progression and recurrence-free survival and may become a promising therapeutic target. More studies are essential to further our findings.

Abstract
Background Tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase (TDO2) is one of the emerging immune checkpoints. Meanwhile, TDO2 is also a key enzyme in the tryptophan (Trp)–kynurenine (Kyn) signaling pathway. Many studies have evaluated that TDO2 is highly expressed in various malignant tumor patients and plays a prognostic role. However, the sample size of a single prognostic study was small, and the results were still controversial. Methods We used Stata software and referenced the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) statement to conduct a meta-analysis on TDO2 and its clinical features and prognosis. We searched the PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases to find publications concerning TDO2 expression in malignant tumor patients up to June 2021. We used the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale (NOS) to evaluate the bias risk of the included literature. Risk ratios (RRs) and hazard ratios (HRs) were used for clinical outcomes, specifically overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). In addition, we used data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) to verify our conclusions. Results Nine studies including 667 patients with malignant tumors were identified. Our results suggested that overexpression of TDO2 was statistically correlated with poor OS and poor PFS (HR = 2.58, 95% CI = 1.52–4.40, p = 0.0005; HR = 2.38, 95% CI = 0.99–5.73, p = 0.05). In terms of clinicopathological characteristics, the overexpression level of TDO2 was statistically correlated with TNM (tumor–node–metastasis) stage (RR = 0.65, 95% CI = 0.48–0.89, p = 0.002) and regional lymph node metastasis (RR = 0.76, 95% CI = 0.59–0.99, p = 0.04). Subgroup analysis revealed the potential sources of heterogeneity. In addition, bioinformatics studies suggested that the level of TDO2 was high in malignant tumors and higher in cancer tissue than in matched paracarcinoma tissue. Gene enrichment analysis showed that TDO2 was closely related to immune response. Conclusion Overall, TDO2 may be a biomarker for the survival and prognosis of patients with malignant tumors and a potential therapeutic target in the future. Abstract
microRNAs (miRNAs) are small endogenous RNAs composed of 20-22 nucleotides that do not encode proteins, which regulate the expression of downstream genes by targeting the 3' untranslated region of mRNA. Plentiful research has demonstrated that miRNAs participate in the initiation and development of diverse diseases and malignant tumors. miR-1258 exerts great influence on tumors, including tumor growth, distant metastasis, migration, invasion, chemosensitivity, cell glycolysis, apoptosis, and stemness. Interestingly, miR-1258 is a miRNA with explicit functions and has been investigated to act as a tumor suppressor in studies on various types of tumors. With accumulating research on miR-1258, it has been found to be used as a biomarker in the early diagnosis and prognosis prediction of tumor patients. In this review, we outline the development of miR-1258 research, describe its regulatory network, and discuss its roles in cancer. Additionally, we generalize the potential clinical applications of miR-1258. This review offers emerging perspectives and orientations for further comprehending the function of miR-1258 as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker and potent therapeutic target in cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The clinical role of perioperative respiratory muscle training (RMT), including inspiratory muscle training (IMT) and expiratory muscle training (EMT) in patients undergoing pulmonary surgery remains unclear up to now.
AIM To evaluate whether perioperative RMT is effective in improving postoperative outcomes such as the respiratory muscle strength and physical activity level of patients receiving lung surgery.
METHODS The PubMed, EMBASE (via OVID), Web of Science, Cochrane Library and Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) were systematically searched to obtain eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Primary outcome was postoperative respiratory muscle strength expressed as the maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP) and maximal expiratory pressure (MEP). Secondary outcomes were physical activity, exercise capacity, including the 6-min walking distance and peak oxygen consumption during the cardio-pulmonary exercise test, pulmonary function and the quality of life.
RESULTS Seven studies involving 240 participants were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. Among them, four studies focused on IMT and the other three studies focused on RMT, one of which included IMT, EMT and also combined RMT (IMT-EMT-RMT). Three studies applied the intervention postoperative, one study preoperative and the other three studies included both pre- and postoperative training. For primary outcomes, the pooled results indicated that perioperative RMT improved the postoperative MIP (mean = 8.13 cmH2O, 95%CI: 1.31 to 14.95, P = 0.02) and tended to increase MEP (mean = 13.51 cmH2O, 95%CI: -4.47 to 31.48, P = 0.14). For secondary outcomes, perioperative RMT enhanced postoperative physical activity significantly (P = 0.006) and a trend of improved postoperative pulmonary function was observed.
CONCLUSION Perioperative RMT enhanced postoperative respiratory muscle strength and physical activity level of patients receiving lung surgery. However, RCTs with large samples are needed to evaluate effects of perioperative RMT on postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing lung surgery.

Abstract
Background: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a clinically and genetically heterogeneous group of pervasive neurodevelopmental disorders with a strong hereditary component. Although, genome-wide linkage scans (GWLS) and association studies (GWAS) have previously identified hundreds of ASD risk gene loci, the results remain inconclusive. Method: We performed a heterogeneity-based genome search meta-analysis (HEGESMA) of 15 genome scans of autism and ASD. Results: For strictly defined autism, data were analyzed across six separate genome scans. Region 7q22-q34 reached statistical significance in both weighted and unweighted analyses, with evidence of significantly low between-scan heterogeneity. For ASDs (data from 12 separate scans), chromosomal regions 5p15.33-5p15.1 and 15q22.32-15q26.1 reached significance in both weighted and unweighted analyses but did not reach significance for either low or high heterogeneity. Region 1q23.2-1q31.1 was significant in unweighted analyses with low between-scan heterogeneity. Finally, region 8p21.1-8q13.2 reached significant linkage peak in all our meta-analyses. When we combined all available genome scans (15), the same results were produced. Conclusions: This meta-analysis suggests that these regions should be further investigated for autism susceptibility genes, with the caveat that autism spectrum disorders have different linkage signals across genome scans, possibly because of the high genetic heterogeneity of the disease.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the diagnostic performance of magnetic resonance hysterosalpingography (MR-HSG) for fallopian tubal occlusion in the context of female infertility when compared to the diagnostic performance of hysterosalpingosonography in evaluation of fallopian tubal occlusion of female infertility. METHODS We will search PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Chinese biomedical databases from their inceptions to the October 31, 2021, without language restrictions. Two authors will independently carry out searching literature records, scanning titles and abstracts, full texts, collecting data, and assessing risk of bias. Review Manager 5.2 and Stata14.0 software will be used for data analysis. RESULTS This systematic review will investigate whether MR-HSG has more diagnostic value than hysterosalpingosonography in evaluation of fallopian tubal occlusion of female infertility. Abstract
Migraine is a neurological disorder which impairs the patient's quality of life. Several association studies investigating the association between MTHFR gene C677T and A1298C polymorphisms and susceptibility to migraine were published. But the results were conflicting, so authors performed a meta-analysis of published case control studies to find out the exact association between MTHFR polymorphism and migraine susceptibility. Four databases were searched for suitable studies up to December, 2018. Odds ratios (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) was calculated adopting additive, homozygote, co-dominant, dominant, and recessive genetic models. Results of MTHFR C677T polymorphism studies meta-analysis showed significant association with migraine risk using allele contrast, homozygote, dominant and recessive genetic models (T vs. C: OR = 1.18, 95% CI = 1.00-1.26, p = 0.05; TT vs. CC: OR = 1.24, 95% CI = 1.0-1.5, p = 0.04; CT vs. CC: OR = 1.08, 95% CI = 0.97-1.07, p = 0.25; TT + CT vs. CC: OR = 1.15, 95% CI = 1.0-1.29, p = 0.04; TT vs. CT + CC: OR = 1.97, 95% CI = 1.28-3.42, p = 0.002). However, results of MTHFR A1298 polymorphism studies meta-analysis did not show any association with migraine. Subgroup analysis based on ethnicity and migraine types i.e. migraine with aura (MA) and without aura (MO) were also performed. Results of present meta-analysis indicate overall association between MTHFR C677T polymorphism with migraine in total 24 studies, in Asian population and in MA cases but did not show any association with Caucasian population and MO cases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurobehavioral disorder in childhood. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is widely distributed in the central nervous system and plays an important role in neural development. Despite several previous studies have examined the association between the Val66Met polymorphism BDNF and ADHD, the results are conflicting. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate the association between Val66Met polymorphism and ADHD in case-control and transmission disequilibrium test (TDT) studies using a meta-analysis. METHODS Keywords "rs6265" or "Val66Met" and "Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder" were used to search in the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Wanfang, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases before April 2021. Genotype data were extracted to calculate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS Fifteen studies, comprising of 8,692 samples (containing 4,364 cases, 4,328 controls) and 1,578 families were included and results demonstrated that rs6265 was not associated with susceptibility to ADHD (OR = 0.95, 95% CI: 0.87-1.04, P = 0.291). Stratified analyses by study design, ethnicity, and sample size further supported that rs6265 was not associated with ADHD. CONCLUSION The present study shows that the polymorphism of the BDNF Val66Met gene is not associated with susceptibility to ADHD.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate whether postoperative exercise training is effective in improving clinical outcomes such as the quality of life (QoL), exercise capacity and respiratory function of patients receiving pulmonary resection. DATA SOURCES The PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and PEDro electronic databases were comprehensively searched to identify eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs). METHODS The PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines were followed. The primary outcome was postoperative QoL and secondary outcomes were exercise capacity and respiratory function. RESULTS A total of eight studies involving 691 participants were enrolled in this systematic review and meta-analysis. For the postoperative QoL measured by 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36), the pooled results demonstrated that postoperative exercise training could significantly improve the SF-36 physical domain score [weighted mean difference (WMD) = 5.87, 95% confidence interval (CI): 3.96 to 7.78, P<0.001] and SF-36 mental domain score (WMD = 8.15, 95% CI: 0.13 to 16.16, P = 0.05). The results of further analysis for the eight dimensions of SF-36 were similar to the overall results. However, for secondary outcomes, no significant effects of postoperative exercise training on exercise capacity and respiratory function were observed. CONCLUSION Postoperative exercise training could significantly improve the QoL of patients undergoing lung surgery. However, more RCTs with large samples are still needed to verify the effects of postoperative exercise rehabilitation on clinical outcomes of patients who receive pulmonary resection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sex determining region Y-box 2 (SOX2) has been reported as a potential therapeutic target for cancer. However, the role of SOX2 in cervical cancer remains largely undetermined. This study was performed to evaluate the correlation of SOX2 with clinical characteristics and prognosis in cervical cancer. METHODS Multiple databases were systematically searched for eligible publications. The combined odds ratios (ORs) or hazard ratios (HRs) with the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to assess the effect sizes. RESULTS A total of 17 studies with 1906 participants were identified. SOX2 expression was higher in cervical cancer than in the normal control group (OR = 10.83, 95% CI = 6.64-17.67, P < 0.001), while no significant difference was observed between cervical cancer and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. SOX2 expression was not associated with age, tumor stage, and lymph node metastasis, but was correlated with tumor grade (grade 2-3 vs. grade 1: OR = 4.59, 95% CI = 2.76-7.62, P < 0.001) and tumor size (≥4 cm vs. ≤4 cm: OR = 1.66, 95% CI = 1.05-2.60, P = 0.028). Based on multivariate Cox analysis, SOX2 expression was not correlated with overall survival, but was closely associated with poor recurrence-free survival (HR = 5.83, 95% CI = 1.35-25.16, P = 0.018) and progress-free survival HR = 2.29, 95% CI = 1.01-5.19, P = 0.046). CONCLUSION SOX2 may serve as a novel prognostic factor and a promising molecular target for cervical cancer.

Abstract
The first quantitative synthesis of GWAS regarding Parkinson’s Disease. Fifteen Parkinson’s Disease GWASs with 191.397 available SNPs pooled. User friendly software (METRADISC-XL) implemented. Seven chromosomal regions (bins) were replicated as associated with the Parkinson’s Disease trait. Introduction Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder with a complex etiology coming from interactions between genetic and environmental factors. Research on Parkinson’s disease genetics has been an effortful struggle, while new technologies and novel study designs served as indispensable boosters. Until now, 90 loci and 20 disease-causing gene mutations have been identified. In this study we describe a novel non-parametric approach to GWAS meta-analysis and its application in PD genetics. Methods A literature search was conducted to identify Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) regarding Parkinson’s disease. We applied predefined inclusion criteria and extracted the reported SNPs and their respective position and statistical significance. We divided all chromosomes in approximately equal genetic distance segments called bins and recorded the most significant SNP from each bin and each study and ranked them in terms of their p-value. Ranks from each bin were summed, averaged and added in a heterogeneity-based analysis using the METRADISC-XL software. Weighted and unweighted analysis was performed. Results Five-hundred and forty-three SNPs and their respective p-values from 15 studies were matched in their corresponding bins. The METRADISC-XL analysis resulted in 7 bins with a significant p-value. A bin on chromosome 4 where the SNCA gene is located found with genome-wide significant association with Parkinson’s Disease. Conclusion This is the first time a non-parametric method is applied in GWAS meta-analysis. The results add some insight on the overall understanding of Parkinson’s disease genetics and serve as a first step of further convergent analysis with Genome-wide linkage studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The clinical significance of breast cancer susceptibility gene 1 (BRCA1) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients undergoing surgery remains unclear up to now.
AIM To explore the relation of BRCA1 expression with clinicopathological characteristics and survival in patients with resected NSCLC.
METHODS EMBASE, PubMed, Web of Science, and The Cochrane Library databases were searched to identify the relevant articles. To assess the correlation between the expression of BRCA1 and clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of patients with resected NSCLC patients, the combined relative risks or hazard ratios (HRs) with their corresponding 95% confidence intervals [CIs] were estimated.
RESULTS Totally, 11 articles involving 1041 patients were included in the meta-analysis. The results indicated that the expression of BRCA1 was significantly correlated with prognosis of resected NSCLC. Positive BRCA1 expression signified a shorter overall survival (HR = 1.60, 95%CI: 1.25-2.05; P < 0.001) and disease-free survival (HR = 1.78, 95%CI: 1.42-2.23; P < 0.001). However, no significant association of BRCA1 expression with any clinicopathological parameters was observed.
CONCLUSION BRCA1 expression indicates a poor prognosis in resected NSCLC patients. BRCA1 might serve as an independent biomarker to predict clinical outcomes and help to customize optimal adjuvant chemotherapy for NSCLC patients who had received surgical therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Carbamazepine (CBZ) is a wildly used anti-epileptic drug (AED). Increasing evidence suggested that polymorphisms in Epoxide Hydrolase1 (EPHX1) gene are associated with the pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD) of CBZ, albeit the results were inconsistent. METHODS A literature search on PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library was conducted to identify eligible studies published between 1974 and 2020. A meta-analysis was performed and the standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) were estimated using a random-effects model. The heterogeneity and leave-one-study-out sensitivity analyses of each article and the publication bias were also performed. All the statistical analyses were performed using STATA 14.0. RESULTS A total of 6 articles with 1746 subjects were included in this meta-analysis. A significant correlation was detected between EPHX1 rs1051740 T > C polymorphisms and decreased plasma concentration of CBZ (TT vs CC: SMD = 0.34, P < 0.001; TC vs CC: SMD = 0.35, P = 0.009). However, similar results were not detected in the comparison of TT vs. TC in the EPHX1 rs1051740 T > C variation (P = 0.637), while subgroup analyses showed an association with plasma CBZ concentration in the non-Asian group (P < 0.001, I2 = 0.0%, Ph = 0.400). Although the association of EPHX1 rs2234922 A > G polymorphisms with plasma CBZ concentration was not detected (AA vs GG:SMD = 0.54, P = 0.102; AA vs AG:SMD = -0.05, P = 0.670; AG vs GG: SMD = 0.86, P = 0.107), subgroup analyses showed that the GG genotype EPHX1 rs2234922 was associated with increased plasma CBZ concentration in the Asian group (P = 0.005, I2 = 48.6%, Ph = 0.143). CONCLUSION EPHX1 rs1051740 T > C and rs2234922 A > G are important genetic variants associated with plasma CBZ concentration. The role of EPHX1 polymorphisms in the interindividual variability of plasma CBZ concentration varied significantly among different ethnic groups, which should be considered during clinical validation and in future studies.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to assess the relationship of cluster of differentiation 117 (CD117) expression with the clinicopathological characteristics and the prognosis in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). No meta-analysis concerning the correlation of CD117 expression with clinical and prognostic values of the patients with NSCLC is reported. A systematic literature search was conducted to achieve eligible studies. The combined odds ratios (ORs) or hazard ratios (HRs: multivariate Cox analysis) with their 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated in this analysis. Final 17 eligible studies with 4,893 NSCLC patients using immunohistochemical detection were included in this meta-analysis. CD117 expression was not correlated with gender (male vs. female), clinical stage (stages 3-4 vs. stages 1-2), tumor grade (grade 3 vs. grades 1-2), T-stage (T-stages 3-4 vs. T-stages 0-2), distal metastasis, and disease-free survival (DFS) of NSCLC (all p values >0.05). CD117 expression was associated with lymph node metastasis (positive vs. negative: OR = 0.74, 95% CI = 0.56-0.97, p = 0.03), histological type (adenocarcinoma (AC) versus squamous cell carcinoma (SCC): OR = 1.74, 95% CI = 1.26-2.39, p = 0.001), and a worse overall survival (OS) (HR = 1.89, 95% CI = 1.22-2.92, p = 0.004). The expression of CD117 was significantly higher in AC than in SCC. CD117 may be an independent prognostic indicator for worse OS in NSCLC.

Abstract
CD44 is reported to be involved in tumor invasion and metastasis. However, the role of cancer stem cell marker CD44 in bladder cancer still remains controversial. Hence, the correlations between CD44 expression and the clinicopathological features and the prognosis of bladder cancer were investigated. Publications using immunohistochemical methods were identified. The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data were also analyzed. The odds ratios (ORs) or hazard ratios (HRs) with their 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were calculated. 14 studies involving 1107 tissue samples were included. CD44 expression in bladder cancer was lower than in non-tumor tissue samples (OR = 0.14, P = 0.005), which was consistent with TCGA data. CD44 expression was correlated with advanced T stage (OR = 1.76, P = 0.029) and lymph node metastasis (OR = 4.09, P < 0.001). Multivariate survival analysis showed that CD44 expression was not linked to tumor-specific survival, overall survival, and recurrence/relapse-free survival, but was associated with disease failure (HR = 2.912, 95% CI = 1.51-5.61). No relationships of CD44 expression with the clinicopathological features and overall survival were found from TCGA data. Our finding suggested that CD44 expression may be correlated with progression, metastasis, and disease failure of bladder cancer. Abstract
BACKGROUND Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) has been used as a therapeutic drug for the treatment of some human diseases. However, no systematic evidence is performed for assessing the role of VEGF in periodontitis. We carried out a comprehensive analysis to explore the role of VEGF in patients with periodontitis. METHODS Multiple databases were searched for eligible studies. The pooled standardized mean difference (SMD) and odds ratio (OR) with the corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI) were applied to evaluate the effect sizes. Clinical data validation from microarray analysis was used. Pathway and process enrichment analysis were also investigated. RESULTS Finally, 16 studies were included in this analysis. Overall, there was a significantly higher level of VEGF expression in periodontitis than in healthy control groups (OR = 16.64, 95% CI = 6.01-46.06, P < 0.001; SMD = 2.25, 95% CI = 1.25-3.24, P < 0.001). Subgroup analysis of ethnicity showed that VEGF expression was still correlated with periodontitis in the Asian and European populations. No correlation was observed between VEGF expression and age, gender, and pathological type. A large clinical sample data (427 periodontitis patients and 136 healthy controls) further validated that VEGF expression was higher in periodontitis than in healthy control groups (P = 0.023). VEGF was involved in many functions such as blood vessel development, response to growth factor, cell proliferation, and cell adhesion. CONCLUSIONS High levels of VEGF were credible implications for the development of periodontitis. Anti-VEGF therapy may be valuable for the treatment of periodontitis in clinical management.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sonography enhances diagnostic accuracy by the detection of the epineural or intraneuronal blood flow.[1-4] Power Doppler ultrasonography (PDUS) in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) has been previously studied and shown to be valid and reliable for grading the intraneural flow.[3,4] However, superb microvascular imaging (SMI) represents a new era in diagnostic sonography, and this new technology enables accurate visualization of vascular structures with intensive clutter suppression to provide flow signals for large to small vessels, and it presents these data at high frame rates.[5-7] Studies suggested that SMI is more sensitive in demonstrating blood flow in the diagnosis of CTS compared with PDUS.[7] In order to gain clarity, a meta-analysis to systematically review and synthesize relevant data on the evaluating intraneural blood flow of the median nerve (MN) using SMI and PDUS was undertaken. METHODS We will search PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Chinese biomedical databases from their inceptions to the December 31, 2020, without language restrictions. Two authors will independently carry out searching literature records, scanning titles and abstracts, full texts, collecting data, and assessing risk of bias. Review Manager 5.2 and Stata 14.0 software will be used for data analysis. RESULTS This systematic review will investigate whether superb microvascular imaging is more sensitive to display the blood flow in the MN with CTS than PDUS. CONCLUSION Its findings will provide strong evidence for the feasibility of superb microvascular imaging on the detection of the neovascularization of the MN with CTS. Abstract
Background: This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the relationship between serum uric acid (UA) and the risk of dementia and its subtypes. Methods: Embase, PubMed, and Web of Science were searched from inception to July 2020. Random-effect models were employed to analyze the standard mean difference (SMD) with the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results: Twenty-three eligible studies involving 5,575 participants were identified. The overall results showed lower levels of UA in dementia relative to non-dementia controls [SMD = −0.32 (−0.64; −0.01) p = 0.04]. The subgroup analysis of the type of dementia demonstrated a significant association of UA with Alzheimer's disease (AD) [SMD = −0.58 (−1.02; −0.15) p = 0.009] and Parkinson's disease with dementia (PDD) [SMD = −0.33 (−0.52; −0.14) p = 0.001] but not with vascular dementia (VaD). The stratification analysis of the concentrations of UA revealed that the UA quartile 1–2 was negatively correlated with dementia and neurodegenerative subtypes (p < 0.05), whereas a positive correlation of UA quartile 4 with dementia was noted (p = 0.028). Additionally, the meta-regression analysis on confounders showed that not age, body mass index, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, or smoking but education (p = 0.003) exerted an influence of the UA in the risk estimate of dementia. Conclusions: Low concentrations of UA (< 292 μmol/L or 4.91 mg/dL) is a potential risk factor for AD and PDD but not for VaD. The mechanism of different concentrations of the UA in dementia needs to be confirmed through further investigation.

Abstract
Background As a novel immune checkpoint molecular, T-cell immunoglobulin mucin 3 (TIM-3) is emerging as a therapeutic target for cancer immunotherapy. However, the predictive role of TIM-3 in cancer remains largely undetermined. This study was designed to investigate the role of TIM-3 in cancer. Methods Publications were searched using multiple databases. The hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated. To further confirm the prognostic effect of TIM-3, The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data were applied. Functional analysis of TIM-3 was also investigated. Results 28 studies with 7284 patients with malignant tumors were identified. Based on multivariate Cox regression analysis, TIM-3 was an independent prognostic indicator for poor overall survival (OS) (HR= 1.54, 95% CI = 1.19-1.98, P = 0.001). However, TIM-3 was not correlated with cancer-specific survival and disease-free survival (DFS). Particularly, TIM-3 showed a worse prognosis in non-small cell lung carcinoma and gastric cancer; but it showed a favorable prognosis in breast cancer. Functional analysis showed that TIM-3 was closely correlated with immune responses such as T-cell activation and natural killer cell-mediated cytotoxicity. Moreover, TIM-3 expression was found to be related to worse OS in 9491 TCGA patients (HR = 1.2, P < 0.001), but was not associated with DFS. Conclusions TIM-3 was an independent prognostic factor. Meanwhile, TIM-3 played a crucial role in tumor immune responses. This supports TIM-3 as a promising target for cancer immunotherapy.

Abstract
Background: This comprehensive meta-analysis aimed to assess whether an increased homocysteine (Hcy) level is an independent predictor of unfavorable outcomes in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted up to August 1, 2020 to collect studies reporting Hcy levels in AIS patients. We analyzed all the data using Review Manager 5.3 software. Results: Seventeen studies with 15,636 AIS patients were selected for evaluation. A higher Hcy level was associated with a poorer survival outcome (OR 1.43, 95% CI: 1.25–1.63). Compared with the AIS group, Hcy levels were significantly lower in the healthy control patients, with an SMD of 5.11 and 95% CI (1.87–8.35). Analysis of the different subgroups of AIS demonstrated significant associations between high Hcy levels and survival outcomes only in Caucasian and Asian patients. Moreover, whereas high Hcy levels were closely associated with gender, B12 deficiency, smoking, and patients who received tissue plasminogen activator treatment, no significant difference was found between increased Hcy levels and age, drinking, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and hyperlipidemia. In addition, the cut-off value (20.0 μmol/L) might be an optimum cut-off index for AIS patients in clinical practice. Conclusion: This meta-analysis reveals that the Hcy level may serve as an independent predictor for unfavorable survival outcomes in AIS patients, particularly in Caucasian and Asian AIS patients. Further studies can be conducted to clarify this relationship.

The present meta-analysis aimed at evaluating the efficacy and safety of Banxia Xiexin decoction in the treatment HP positive peptic ulcer. METHODS We will search PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Chinese biomedical databases from their inceptions to the November 30th, 2020. Two authors will independently carry out searching literature records, scanning titles and abstracts, full texts, collecting data, and assessing risk of bias. RESULTS This systematic review will determine the efficacy and safety of Banxia Xiexin decoction in the treatment HP positive peptic ulcer. Abstract
Aim To evaluate the impact of sodium glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT-2i) on risk of heart failure hospitalization in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods We searched the PubMed, Embase, The Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang, CBM, and other web knowledge databases for data from randomized controlled trials. We performed statistical analyses by using review Manager (RevMan) 5.3 and STATA 12.0 for meta-analysis. Results Eight randomized controlled trials that compared SGLT-2i versus placebo met our inclusion criteria and were included in the study. The final meta-analysis included a total of 55,763 type 2 diabetes patients. Compared with placebo, SGLT-2i reduced the risk of heart failure hospitalization (RR, 0.63; 95% CI, 0.53 to 0.74; P < 0.00001), MACE (defined as cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, or ischemic stroke) (RR, 0.92; 95% CI, 0.86 to 0.98; P < 0.007), cardiovascular death (RR, 0.78; 95%CI, 0.62 to 0.99; P = 0.04) in type 2 diabetes patients. SGLT-2i could reduce the risk of death from any cause (RR, 0.77; 95% CI, 0.59 to 1.01; P = 0.06) without statistical significance in type 2 diabetes patients. Conclusion Compared with placebo, SGLT-2i may reduce the risk of heart failure hospitalization, MACE, and cardiovascular death. Therefore, SGLT-2i may be an ideal choice for type 2 diabetes mellitus patient with heart failure. These results will help inform practitioners, patients, and authorities making appropriate choices in hypoglycemic therapy clinical practice.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to investigate whether intraoperative indocyanine green fluorescence angiography can reduce the incidence of anastomotic leak. METHODS Present authors conducted a systematic search of PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs), prospective nonrandomized trials, and retrospective trials up to March 2020. Eleven papers fulfilling the screening criteria were included. INTERVENTION Indocyanine green was injected intravenously after the division of the mesentery and colon but before anastomosis. The primary outcome measure was AL rate with at least 3 months of follow-up. Secondary outcome measure was operation time, postoperative complications, surgical site infection, reoperation, and ileus rate. The results were analyzed using STATA 12.0 software (Stata Corp, College Station, TX, USA). RESULT A total of 3137 patients were collected in 11 studies. Meta-analysis showed that compared with conventional surgery, the ICG fluorescence angiography resulted in a fewer AL rate (OR = 0.31; 95% CI 0.21 to 0.44; P < 0.0001), postoperative complications (OR = 0.70; 95% CI 0.51 to 0.96; P < 0.025), and reoperation rate (OR = 0.334; 95% CI 0.16 to 0.68; P = 0.003). Operation time (weighted mean difference - 25.162 min; 95% CI - 58.7 to 8.375; P = 0.141), surgical site infection rate (OR = 1.11; 95% CI 0.59 to 2.09; P = 0.742) did not differ between the two groups. CONCLUSION The result revealed that indocyanine green was associated with a lower anastomotic leakage rate after colorectal cancer resection. However, larger, multicentered, high-quality randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm the benefit of indocyanine green fluorescence angiography.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of the present study was to investigate the predictive value of using the multiple of the median (MoM) of β-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) levels in patients with preeclampsia (PE) and healthy pregnant women. METHODS Electronic databases including PubMed, EBSCO, Ovid, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), SinoMed, Wangfang and the Weipu Journal were searched up to May 31, 2020. Two reviewers independently selected the articles and extracted data on study characteristics, quality and results. A random-effects model was employed, and standardized mean difference and 95% confidence intervals were calculated. Twenty-one case-control studies were analyzed in the present meta-analysis, including a total of 2,266 cases and 25,872 healthy controls. RESULTS Women who were diagnosed with PE were found to have higher early second-trimester levels of serum β-hCG MoM compared with healthy controls, although the levels in the first trimester were not significantly different. Ethnicity subgroup analysis demonstrated that the MoM of β-hCG serum levels was significantly higher in PE patients in both Asian and Caucasian populations during the early second trimester. CONCLUSION The MoM of β-hCG serum levels was found to be a valuable clinical indicator for predicting PE in the early second trimester, but had little predictive value in the first trimester. However, further assessment of the predictive capacity of β-hCG within larger, diverse populations is required.

Abstract
Aim: This study was first performed to investigate the role of octamer-binding transcription factor 4 (OCT4) in colorectal cancer (CRC). Methods: The electronic databases were searched for the eligible studies. Odds ratios and hazard ratios were calculated. Functional analysis of OCT4 was examined. Results: Eight studies with 1480 CRC cases were identified. OCT4 expression was correlated with advanced clinical stage, tumor grade, lymph node metastasis, lymphatic invasion, and distal metastasis. OCT4 was an independent prognostic biomarker for predicting worse disease-specific survival and overall survival in CRC. The functional analyses demonstrated that OCT4 was involved in multiple functions, such as cell adhesion, phosphoinositide 3-kinase/Akt signaling, and regulating pluripotency of stem cells. Conclusion: OCT4 may be correlated with disease progression and metastasis, and could predict prognosis in CRC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Alcohol may increase gastric cancer risk. Alcohol can be more carcinogenic in persons who possess inactive ALDH2. The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate whether ALDH2 polymorphism can affect alcohol-induced gastric carcinogenesis. METHODS We searched the PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases to identify relevant articles published between January 2000 and September 2019. Eligible articles were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data were analyzed using Review Manager 5.3. RESULTS A total of 7 case-control studies on ALDH2 rs671 polymorphism consisting of 3,251 gastric cancer cases and 4,943 controls were included in the analysis. Inactive ALDH2 genotypes (G/A or A/A) were associated with an increased risk of gastric cancer (odds ratio [OR] = 1.26, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.04 to 1.52, p = 0.02, I2 = 64%), compared with active ALDH2 (G/G genotype). Subgroup analysis by alcohol consumption showed that inactive ALDH2 increased risk for gastric cancer in moderate to heavy drinkers (OR = 1.85, 95% CI: 1.52 to 2.25, p < 0.01, I2 = 6%) more than in nondrinkers or mild drinkers (OR = 1.19; 95% CI: 1.05 to 1.36, p < 0.01, I2 = 6%). Moderate/heavy alcohol consumption increased gastric cancer risk in individuals with inactive ALDH2 (OR = 2.23, 95% CI: 1.63 to 3.05, p < 0.01, I2 = 30%) more than those with active ALDH2 (OR = 1.40, 95% CI: 0.98 to 2.01, p = 0.07, I2 = 85%). CONCLUSIONS The ALDH2 polymorphism modifies the risk of gastric cancer. Moderate/heavy drinkers are more susceptible to gastric cancer than non-drinkers or light drinkers with inactive ALDH2.

Abstract
BACKGROUND As indicated by numerous studies, there exists a relationship between the polymorphism of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) and susceptibility to diabetic nephropathy (DN) in various populations; nonetheless, the findings remain inconsistent. Therefore, we carried out a meta-analysis to determine the relationship between the MTHFR gene polymorphism and DN susceptibility. MATERIALS AND METHOD Related studies were identified from PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure database (time period: from building the library to October 2019). The strength of the association was examined using odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). RESULTS The findings illustrated that the C677T gene polymorphism was significantly associated with an enhanced susceptibility to DN compared to that with diabetes mellitus in allelic (OR = 1.64, 95% CI = 1.34-2.00, P < .001), dominant (OR = 1.85, 95% CI = 1.40-2.46, P < .001), codominant (heterozygote: OR = 1.67, 95% CI = 1.27-2.21, P < .001; homozygote: OR = 2.55, 95% CI = 1.82-3.57, P < .001), and recessive (OR = 1.89, 95% CI = 1.50-2.38, P < .001) models of the overall population. Moreover, as compared with the healthy controls, a significantly augmented susceptibility to DN was found in all 5 genetic comparison models (allelic: OR = 2.06, 95% CI = 1.58-2.67, P < .001; dominant: OR = 2.52, 95% CI = 1.73-3.69, P < .001; codominant: OR = 3.78, 95% CI = 2.50-5.70, P < .001; recessive: OR = 2.41, 95% CI = 1.96-2.97, P < .001). Furthermore, stratifying data by ethnicity revealed substantially augmented vulnerability to DN in not only Caucasian but also Asian populations. CONCLUSION The present study suggests that the C677T polymorphism was associated with an augmented susceptibility to DN.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Superb microvascular imaging (SMI) is a novel Doppler technique that depicts low velocity blood flow without the use of a contrast agent. Studies suggested that SMI may or may not detect neovascularization of carotid plaque with accuracy comparable to contrast-enhanced ultrasound. To gain clarity, a meta-analysis to systematically review and synthesize relevant data on the SMI for the detection of intraplaque neovascularization was undertaken. METHODS We will search PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Chinese biomedical databases from their inceptions to the June 31, 2020, without language restrictions. Two authors will independently carry out searching literature records, scanning titles and abstracts, full texts, collecting data, and assessing risk of bias. Review Manager 5.2 and Stata14.0 software will be used for data analysis. RESULTS This systematic review will investigate whether SMI is feasible on the detection of intraplaque neovascularization compared with contrast-enhanced ultrasound. CONCLUSION Its findings will provide helpful evidence for the feasibility of SMI on the detection of intraplaque neovascularization. SYSTEMATIC REVIEW REGISTRATION INPLASY202070097.

Abstract
Aim To explore the clinicopathological and prognostic role of PIK3CA gene mutation and expression in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Methods A systematic and comprehensive literature search was conducted through EMBASE (via OVID), Web of Science, and PubMed. Relative risks (RRs) and hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were combined to evaluate the relationship of the PIK3CA gene with clinicopathological parameters and the survival of NSCLC patients, respectively. Results A total of 13 studies involving 3908 patients were analyzed in our study. Only lymph node metastasis status had an association with PIK3CA mutation (RR = 2.823; 95% CI: 1.128-7.065; P = 0.029). The results indicated that PICK3CA mutation was related with overall survival (OS) (HR = 1.55; 95% CI: 1.13-2.13; P = 0.007), progression-free survival (PFS) (HR = 1.48; 95% CI: 1.06-2.08; P = 0.023), and cancer-specific survival (CSS) (HR = 2.63; 95% CI: 1.00-6.92; P = 0.005). Furthermore, PIK3CA high expression was more prevalent in NSCLC patients with smoking history (RR = 2.42; 95% CI: 1.04-5.61; P = 0.040). However, no significant relation between PIK3CA expression and OS was found (HR = 0.80; 95% CI: 0.58-1.12; P = 0.193). Conclusion PIK3CA mutation may affect lymph node metastasis and serve as a promising prognostic factor, and smoking may be related with PIK3CA high expression in NSCLC patients. However, more well-designed prospective researches are needed to verify the abovementioned findings.

Abstract
AIMS To explore the relationship between excision repair cross-complementing 1 (ERCC1) gene expression and clinical pathological parameters and prognosis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients who received the surgical therapy. METHODS To identify relevant articles, a systematic literature retrieval was conducted in several databases, including the Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, PubMed, VIP, Wanfang, and CNKI. The association of ERCC1 gene expression with clinicopathological characteristics and survival was assessed by the pooled relative risk (RR) and hazard ratio (HR) with the corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI), respectively. Sensitivity analysis was conducted to assess the stability of pooled results. Begg's funnel plot and Egger's test were applied to detect potential publication bias. RESULTS A total of nine studies involving 746 patients were included in our meta-analysis, and all patients were from Asian countries, including China, Korea, and Japan. The results indicated that ERCC1 gene expression was significantly associated with lymph node metastasis (RR = 1.30, 95% CI 1.11-1.53; P = 0.002), higher TNM stage (RR = 1.23, 95% CI 1.06-1.43; P = 0.006), worse overall survival (HR = 2.40, 95% CI 1.32-4.37; P < 0.001), and disease-free survival (HR = 1.67, 95% CI 1.15-2.41; P = 0.007). Sensitivity analysis manifested that the pooled results were stable and no significant publication bias was observed. CONCLUSIONS ERCC1 gene expression is significantly related to tumor stage and prognosis in resected ESCC patients from Asian countries. More prospective studies with larger samples are needed to testify our findings.

Abstract
This meta-analysis assesses the consistency of superb microvascular imaging (SMI) and contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) in detecting intraplaque neovascularization (IPN). We searched PubMed, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, and CBM databases. A meta-analysis was conducted using STATA version 15.1 software. We calculated the pooled Kappa index. Ten studies that met all of the inclusion criteria were included in this meta-analysis. A total of 608 carotid plaques were assessed through both SMI and CEUS. The pooled summary Kappa index was 0.743 (95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.696–0.790) with statistical significance (z = 31.14, P < 0.01). We found no evidence of publication bias (t = −1.21, P = 0.261). Our meta-analysis indicates that SMI and CEUS display a good consistency in detecting the IPN of carotid plaque; that is, SMI ultrasound may be a promising alternative to CEUS for detecting the IPN of carotid plaque.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Systematic evaluation of the successful heartbeat recovery rate (HRR) in patients during the platinum ten minutes after cardiac arrest. METHODS The databases of CNKI (January 1979-March 2019), Chongqing VIP (January 1989-March 2019), Wanfang (January 1990-March 2019) and Web of Science (1900-May 2020) were searched. To collect the clinical data of patients with cardiac arrest before hospitalization and analyze the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at different times. Literature selection and data extraction were carried out by two researchers independently, and the meta package of R software (version 3. 61) was used for analysis. RESULTS A total of 116 papers met the inclusion criteria, including 37,181 patients. Of these patients, 3367 had their heartbeats successfully restored. The results showed a high degree of heterogeneity (χ2 = 6999.21, P < 0.01, I2 = 97.6%). The meta-analysis was conducted using a random-effects model. The combined effect size was 0.199 (0.157-0.250). (1) According to the five CPR groups (International Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Guide 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015 and other versions), the HRR of other versions [0.264 (0.176-0.375)] was higher than the International Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation 2005 edition [0.121 (0.092-0.158)]. (2) The rescue time was divided into the 0 to ≤5 min group, the 5 to ≤10 min group, the 10 to ≤15 min group, and the > 15 min group. The HRR were 0.417 (0.341-0.496), 0.143 (0.104-0.193), 0.049 (0.034-0.069), and 0.022 (0.009-0.051), respectively. The HRR was higher in the 0 to ≤5 min group than in the 5 to ≤10 min group, the 10 to ≤15 min group and the > 15 min group. There was no difference between the 10 to ≤15 min group and the > 15 min group. (3) When the groups were stratified with the cutoff of 10 min, the ≤10 min group HRR [0.250 (0.202-0.306)] was higher than the > 10 min group rate [0.041 (0.029-0.057)]. (4) The HRR of the telephone guidance group was [0.273 (0.227-0.325)] lower than that of the 0 to ≤5 min group [0.429 (0.347-0.516)] but higher than that of the 5 to ≤10 min group, the 10 to ≤15 min group, and the > 15 min group. (5) The HRR of the witness group [0.325 (0.216-0.458)] was not different from that of the 0 to ≤5 min group, but it was higher than those of the 5 to ≤10 min group, the 10 to ≤15 min group and the > 15 min group. (6) There was no significant difference HRR between the witnessed group, the telephone guidance group and the ≤10 min group. CONCLUSIONS (1) The HRR is time-sensitive, and early rescue can improve it. (2) CPR performed within the platinum ten minutes must be executed by the public, and other forces are auxiliary. (3) The concept of peri-cardiac arrest period (PCAP) should be established and improved to guide CPR.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Salvianolic acids (SA) has been widely used for the treatment of acute cerebral infarction (ACI) combined with basic western medicine therapy in China. This study was aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of SA on ACI treatment and its influence on neurological functions, activity of daily living, and cognitive functions. METHODS We retrieved related articles from PubMed, the Cochrane Center Controlled Trials Register, EMBASE, Medline, Ovid, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, and Wanfang Database without date and language restrictions. Finally, 58 randomized controlled trials were included from 239 retrieved records. Two researchers extracted the basic information and data from included articles and assessed the quality and analysis of data by using Review Manager 5.3. RESULTS The administration of SA significantly increased the total clinical effective rate of ACI treatment (P < .001) and improved the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale scores, modified Rankin Scale scores, and Barthel Index scores after treatment and 3 months after ACI (P < .05). The activities of daily living scores in the SA group were significantly increased after treatment (P < .001), whereas they were remarkably decreased 3 months after ACI (P < .001) compared with that in the control group. Besides, SA profoundly promoted the recovery of Montreal Cognitive Assessment scores (P < .001). However, the use of SA increased the risk of adverse events occurrence (P = .007). CONCLUSION SA combined with basic western medicine treatment could promote neurological functions, daily living activities, and cognitive functions recovery of ACI patients. Although SA increased the risk of adverse events occurrence, these adverse events were easily controlled or disappeared spontaneously.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) expression is related to the prognosis of many solid tumors; however, its prognostic value in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) remains unclear. Here, a meta-analysis was performed to estimate the association of PD-L1 expression with prognosis and clinicopathological features in patients with OSCC. METHODS PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and CNKI databases were searched to find relevant studies for identification of the association of PD-L1 expression with clinicopathological features and overall survival (OS) in patients with OSCC. The strength of the association of PD-L1 expression with clinicopathological features and OS in patients with OSCC was assessed according to the relative risk (RR), hazard ratio (HR), and 95% confidence interval CI (CI). RESULT Twenty-three studies (including 3217 patients with OSCC) were evaluated. The meta-analysis showed that positive PD-L1 expression was significantly correlated with OS in patients with OSCC (HR = 1.00, 95% CI = 0.76-1.30, p = 0.284). Positive PD-L1 expression was significantly correlated with sex (RR = 1.22, 95% CI = 1.07-1.38, p = 0.002), histological differentiation (RR = 1.15, 95% CI = 1.02-1.30, p = 0.020), distant metastasis (RR = 0.68, 95% CI = 0.54-0.86, p = 0.011), lymph node metastasis status (RR = 0.83, 95% CI = 0.76-0.91, p < 0.001), TNM stage (RR = 0.81, 95% CI = 0.73-0.89, p < 0.001), and human papilloma virus infection status (RR = 1.30, 95% CI = 1.04-1.62, p = 0.019), but was not correlated with T stage and tumor recurrence. CONCLUSION High PD-L1 expression in OSCC was not related to OS. However, high PD-L1 expression was significantly related to certain clinicopathological features. Thus, positive PD-L1 expression may be a biomarker of poor prognosis in patients with OSCC.

Abstract
Our goal was to explore the association of melanoma-associated antigen-A (MAGE-A) gene expression with clinicopathological parameters and survival rates in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who had surgery. A systematic search of EMBASE, PubMed, Web of Science and The Cochrane Library databases was performed through 20 April 2019. The combined risk ratios (RRs) and hazard ratios (HRs) with their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to assess the association of MAGE-A gene expression with clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of patients with resected NSCLC, respectively. All statistical analyses were performed with Stata software, version 12.0. A total of 9 articles involving 1538 patients were included in our meta-analysis; most of the studies were from Asian countries. The results indicated that the expression of the MAGE-A gene was significantly correlated with lymph node metastases (RR 1.21, 95% CI 1.09-1.34; P = 0.001), high tumour-node-metastasis stage (RR 1.24, 95% CI 1.12-1.38; P < 0.001), histological type (squamous cell carcinoma) (RR 1.82, 95% CI 1.15-2.87; P = 0.01), poor overall survival (HR 2.11, 95% CI 1.73-2.57; P < 0.001) and cancer-specific survival (HR 1.76, 95% CI 1.12-2.78; P = 0.015). MAGE-A gene expression is related to tumour development and metastasis and is more prevalent in squamous cell carcinomas of the lung; besides, it is an independent prognostic factor for patients with resected NSCLC.

Abstract
Objective Transcription factor SOX2 (sex-determining region Y-box 2) has a crucial role in the maintenance of the stem cell state. However, current evidence regarding the role of SOX2 in breast cancer is conflicting. We conducted this meta-analysis to clarify the association of SOX2 expression with clinical and molecular features and its prognostic effect on breast cancer. Methods All relevant articles were searched using electronic databases. The pooled odds ratios (ORs) or hazard ratios (HRs: multivariate Cox survival analysis) with their 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated. Results A final total of 18 studies containing 3,080 patients with breast cancer were included. SOX2 protein expression was not related to age, menopausal status, lymph node metastasis, lymphovascular invasion, molecular estrogen receptor status, progesterone receptor status, triple-negative status, and the overall survival in breast cancer, but was closely associated with advanced tumor grade (grade 3 vs. grade 1-2: OR = 2.74, 95% CI = 1.85-4.06, p < 0.001), clinical stage (stage 3-4 vs. stage 0-2: OR = 2.46, 95% CI = 1.37-4.40, p = 0.002), pT stage (T stage 2-4 vs. T stage 1: OR = 1.52, 95% CI = 1.07-2.17, p = 0.019), molecular human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) status (positive vs. negative: OR = 1.61, 95% CI = 1.21-2.14, p = 0.001), epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) status (positive vs. negative: OR = 2.21, 95% CI = 1.13-4.33, p = 0.021), and worse disease-free survival (DFS) (HR = 2.66, 95% CI = 1.20-5.91, p = 0.016) of breast cancer. Conclusions SOX2 expression is correlated with breast cancer progression, HER2 status, and EGFR status, and may be an independent prognostic marker for predicting poor DFS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this meta-analysis is to evaluate the association of fibrinogen with risk of dementia and its subtypes. METHODS Embase, Pubmed and Web of Science were retrieved systematically up to February 2019. Standard mean difference (SMD) with 95 % confidence intervals was estimated using random-effects models. RESULTS Sixteen studies involving 3,649 participants were summarized. Patients with all-cause dementia exhibited higher fibrinogen levels than those in non-dementia controls (SMD = 0.90 [0.43;1.36] p < 0.01). Further subgroup analysis revealed a positive association of fibrinogen with vascular dementia (VaD) (SMD = 1.11 [0.45;1.78] p < 0.01) rather than Alzheimer's disease (AD) (SMD = 0.01 [-0.17;0.19]) p = 0.92) and Parkinson's disease dementia (PDD) (SMD = 0.35 [-0.23;0.93] p = 0.24). This correlation was significant in Europeans (SMD = 0.92 [0.34;1.49] p < 0.01), but probably not in Asian based populations (SMD = 1.04 [-0.09;2.17] p = 0.07), and gradually declined with advancing age (60 ≤ age < 70: SMD = 1.22 [0.38;2.06] p < 0.01; 70 ≤ age < 80: SMD = 0.29 [0.04;0.53] p = 0.02; age ≥ 80: SMD = 0.01 [-0.12;0.15] p = 0.84). CONCLUSIONS Plasma fibrinogen is a potential risk factor for all-cause dementia and VaD under the age of 80, and is more obvious in cohorts with people of European descent.

Abstract
Transcription factor sex-determining region Y-box 2 (SOX2) involves in the maintenance of cancer stem cells. However, the role of SOX2 in colorectal cancer (CRC) remains unclear. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of SOX2 on CRC. Studies were searched using electronic databases. The combined odds ratios (ORs) or hazard ratios (HRs: multivariate Cox survival analysis) with their 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated. The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and GEO datasets were further applied to validate the survival effect. The functional analysis of SOX2 was investigated. In this work, 13 studies including 2337 patients were identified, and validation data were enrolled from TCGA and GEO datasets. SOX2 expression was not significantly related to age, gender, microsatellite instability (MSI) status, clinical stage, histological grade, tumor size, pT-stage, lymph node metastasis, distal metastasis, and cancer-specific survival (CSS) but was correlated with worse overall survival (OS: n = 536 patients) (P < 0.05). Furthermore, TCGA data demonstrated similar results, with no significant correlation between SOX2 and pathological characteristics. Further validation data (OS: n = 1408 and disease-free survival (DFS): n = 1367) showed that SOX2 expression was correlated with worse OS (HR = 1.35, 95% CI: 1.11–1.65, P=0.004) and DFS (HR = 1.30, 95% CI: 1.04–1.62, P=0.02). The functional analyses showed that SOX2 involved in cell-cell junction, focal adhesion, extracellular matrix- (ECM-) receptor interaction, and MAP kinase activity. Our findings suggest that SOX2 expression may be correlated with the worse prognosis of CRC.

Abstract
Objective: We carried out a meta-analysis of case-control studies to determine whether epoxide hydrolase 1 (EPHX1) gene polymorphism rs1051740 was related to the risk of ovarian cancer. Methods: Electronic databases were searched for relevant articles published in English or Chinese language. We calculated crude odds ratios (ORs) with their 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) to assess the relationship of EPHX1 polymorphism rs1051740 with ovarian cancer risk. In addition, subgroup analyses were also conducted based on ethnicity and control source. Between-study heterogeneity was inspected with Q test and I2 statistic. Results: Five eligible studies with a total of 1919 ovarian cancer patients and 1829 controls were ultimately included in the present meta-analysis. Overall results demonstrated that the association between EPHX1 polymorphism rs1051740 and ovarian cancer risk had no statistical significance either in total analysis or in subgroup analyses by ethnicity and source of control. Conclusion: EPHX1 polymorphism rs1051740 may have no independent effect on ovarian cancer susceptibility.

Abstract
Background Previous studies about the prognostic and clinicopathological significance of fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1) amplification in resected esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) are controversial. Therefore, the aim of the current meta-analysis was to determine the association of FGFR1 amplification with prognosis and clinicopathological characteristics of resected ESCC patients. Methods The PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, The Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang, VIP and SinoMed databases were searched systematically from the establishment date of databases to April 1, 2019 to identify related studies. The correlations of FGFR1 amplification of prognosis and clinicopathological characteristics in ESCC were assessed by the combined hazard ratio (HR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) and combined odds ratio (OR) with 95% CI, respectively. All statistical analyses were performed by the Stata 12.0 software. Results A total of nine retrospective studies involving 2,326 patients who received the surgery were included into the current meta-analysis. The results indicated that FGFR1 amplification was significantly correlated with worse overall survival (OS) (HR =1.50, 95% CI: 1.25-1.81, P<0.001), disease-free survival (DFS) (HR =1.58, 95% CI: 1.27-1.96, P<0.001), lymph node metastasis (OR =1.45, 95% CI: 1.13-1.86, P=0.004), higher TNM stage (OR =1.33, 95% CI: 1.03-1.72, P=0.027) and poorer differentiation (OR =1.10, 95% CI: 1.07-1.13, P<0.001). Conclusions The current meta-analysis strongly demonstrates that FGFR1 amplification is an independent prognostic risk factor for resected ESCC patients and more prevalent among patients with advanced tumor stage and poorer differentiation.

Abstract
Background: Expression of hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs) has been observed, but their prognostic role in advanced cancers remains uncertain. We conducted a meta-analysis to establish the prognostic effect of HIFs and to better guide treatment planning for advanced cancers. Methods: Pooled hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated. Trial sequential analysis (TSA) was also performed. The clinical outcomes included overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), progression-free survival (PFS), cancer-specific survival (CSS), relapse/recurrence-free survival (RFS), and metastasis-free survival (MFS) in patients with advanced tumors according to multivariate analysis. Results: A total of 31 studies including 3453 cases who received chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or chemoradiotherapy were identified. Pooled analyses revealed that HIF-1α expression was correlated with worse OS (HR = 1.61, p < 0.001), DFS (HR = 1.61, p < 0.001), PFS (HR = 1.49, p = 0.01), CSS (HR = 1.65, p = 0.056), RFS (HR = 2.10, p = 0.015), or MFS (HR = 2.36, p = 0.002) in advanced cancers. HIF-1α expression was linked to shorter OS in the digestive tract, epithelial ovarian, breast, non-small cell lung, and clear cell renal cell carcinomas. Subgroup analysis by study region showed that HIF-1α expression was correlated with poor OS in Europeans and Asians, while an analysis by histologic subtypes found that HIF-1α expression was not associated with OS in squamous cell carcinoma. No relationship was found between HIF-2α expression and OS, DFS, PFS, or CSS. Conclusions: Targeting HIF-1α may be a useful therapeutic approach to improve survival for advanced cancer patients. Based on TSA, more randomized controlled trials are strongly suggested.
