The aim of this study is to elucidate the principles of surfactants and polymer stabilized nanosuspensions (NS) from a molecular perspective, and to develop a new strategy for screening NS stabilizers based on molecular self-assembly. Through comparing the results of two virtual screening strategies (molecular self-assembly and molecular docking) and real experiments, it was found that molecular dynamics simulations -based molecular self-assembly could screen the stabilizers suitable for NS more accurately. Because, compared to the static binding molecular docking (MD) technique, molecular dynamics simulation (MDS) is able to simulate the nanoparticle formation process more realistically. This simulation not only captures the transient interactions between the stabilizer and the drug, but also observes their evolution in solution over a long period of time, thus providing a more comprehensive and dynamic perspective of the stabilizer screening process. This study established a link between microscopic simulations and macroscopic experiments, thus creating new avenues for rational formulation design. Compared with the traditional trial-and-error method, this new strategy dramatically reduces the range of stabilizer candidates through virtual screening, which can help researchers shorten the NS development cycle as well as cut R&D costs. In addition, microsimulation could provide important insights into how stabilizer-drug interactions determine the stability of NS.

Cholestatic liver injury (CLI) is a liver dysfunction closely associated with oxidative stress and bile acid (BA) metabolic disorders, but effective therapies are lacking.The use of ursolic acid (UA) and α-Tocopherol succinate (VES) together for treating CLI is promising due to their respective effects on regulating bile acid metabolism and providing antioxidant activity.

In this study, we synthesized drug-drug nanocrystals (UA-NSps) composed of UA and VES to treat CLI and evaluated their synergistic therapeutic effects by regulating bile acid metabolism and inhibiting oxidative stress in ANIT-induced CLI mice.

Our investigation demonstrated that UA-NSps exhibited high drug-loading capacity, spherical morphology, and improved dissolution and oral bioavailability. In the ANIT model, UA-NSps effectively restored liver function, as evidenced by histopathological and biochemical improvements. Mechanistically, UA-NSps enhanced Nrf2 nuclear translocation, upregulated Nrf2 and HO-1, reduced pro-inflammatory cytokines, and ameliorated mitochondrial damage. Moreover, UA-NSps alleviated the bile acid metabolism disorders by upregulating the transcriptional activity of UGT2B1, BSEP, and MRP2, as well as the protein expression of nuclear receptors and metabolic enzymes PXR,CYP3A4, and UGT1A1. Our study presents a novel drug-drug nanocrystal strategy that enhances the therapeutic efficacy against CLI by inhibiting oxidative stress and regulating bile acid metabolism.

Nanosuspensions (NS), with their submicron particle sizes and unique physicochemical properties, provide a versatile solution for enhancing the administration of medications that are not highly soluble in water or lipids. This review highlights recent advancements, future prospects, and challenges in NS-based drug delivery, particularly for oral, ocular, transdermal, pulmonary, and parenteral routes. The conversion of oral NS into powders, pellets, granules, tablets, and capsules, and their incorporation into film dosage forms to address stability concerns is thoroughly reviewed. This article summarizes key stabilizers, polymers, surfactants, and excipients used in NS formulations, along with ongoing clinical trials and recent patents. Furthermore, a comprehensive analysis of various methods for NS preparation is provided. This article also explores various in vitro and in vivo characterization techniques, as well as scale-down technologies and bottom-up methods for NS preparation. Selected examples of commercial NS drug products are discussed. Rapid advances in the field of NS could resolve issues related to permeability-limited absorption and hepatic first-pass metabolism, offering promise for medications based on proteins and peptides. The evolution of novel stabilizers is essential to overcome the current limitations in NS formulations, enhancing their stability, bioavailability, targeting ability, and safety profile, which ultimately accelerates their clinical application and commercialization.

Andrographolide (AG) is a diterpene lactone with significant anti-inflammatory and antitumor activities. However, the poor water solubility limits its clinical application. An andrographolide-salicylic acid (AG-SLA) nano-cocrystal delivery system was rapidly developed using hummer acoustic resonance (HAR) technology in this research. The formulation of the AG-SLA nano-cocrystal suspension and the process parameters for HAR technology were optimized in a high-throughput manner, with SDS-Tween 80 as the optimal composite stabilizer. Nano-cocrystal suspension of AG-SLA with an average particle size of 190 nm were successfully prepared, and then the optimal formulation were tenfold scaled up. Freeze-drying was adopted to solidify the nano-cocrystal and improve its stability. Various analytical techniques were used to characterize the particle size and solid state of the nano-cocrystals. The high-energy input from the HAR instrument induced partial amorphization of the nano-cocrystals, as confirmed by PXRD and DSC analyses. Saturation solubility experiments demonstrated that the solubility in pH 1.2 hydrochloric acid buffer and pH 6.8 phosphate buffer increased by 5.74 times and 6.82 times, respectively, compared to raw AG. In vitro dissolution tests indicated that the cumulative release over 120 min in pH 1.2 hydrochloric acid buffer and pH 6.8 phosphate buffer increased by 1.60 times and 1.88 times, respectively, compared to raw AG.

Malignant tumors, also known as cancers, are a global public health problem. Nanogels are promising carriers for the delivery of anticancer medicines. Therefore, based on the unique microenvironment of tumor cells and the advantages of nanogels, a simple and economical one-pot synthesis method was designed to construct natural polysaccharide-based redox-responsive nanogels (LDD NGs). The enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect enriched LDD NGs in tumor cells, which then rapidly collapsed and released the natural antitumor drug diosgenin (DG) and the natural polysaccharide lentinan (LNT) via the depletion of a high level of reduced glutathione (GSH) in tumor cells, resulting in a synergistic therapeutic effect of chemotherapy and immunotherapy. In vivo antitumor experiments showed that LDD NGs could inhibit the proliferation and metastasis of the A549 lung cancer cells. Further studies indicated that LDD NGs could increase the production of ROS and induce apoptosis of A549 cells. In addition, LNT released from LDD NGs could promote the proliferation of dendritic cells, increase the production of NO, and upregulate the expressions of the costimulatory molecules CD40, CD80, CD86, and MHC-II. The construction of LDD NGs was a novel drug synthesis approach that could provide fresh ideas for the development of polysaccharide-based redox-responsive drug delivery systems.

Cancer poses a significant threat to human health, and there is an urgent need for more effective treatments. Combining chemotherapy and immunotherapy is an effective strategy to enhance curative outcomes and holds great potential for widespread application. The natural phytochemical genistein (GEN) exhibits cytotoxicity against tumors and is a potential chemotherapeutic agent. Lentinan (LTN) is a natural polysaccharide with immune-enhancing properties that has been utilized in tumor treatment. This study constructed a pH-responsive nanoparticle GEN@LTN-BDBA with chemotherapy and immunotherapy functions using GEN and LTN. After characterizing the nanoparticles, the molecular mechanism of GEN@LTN-BDBA formation was explored using in silico simulation. GEN@LTN-BDBA can significantly inhibit the proliferation of A549 and HepG2 cells in vitro. The in vivo experiment results demonstrated that treatment with GEN@LTN-BDBA can significantly reduce tumor cell mass and prevent metastasis. In this nanoparticle, GEN induced oxidative stress and apoptosis of tumor cells. Meanwhile, the released LTN initiated an anti-tumor immune response by promoting dendritic cell (DC) maturation and upregulating the expression of costimulatory molecules and major histocompatibility complex. The construction method of GEN@LTN-BDBA can be extended to the preparation of other polysaccharides and hydrophobic chemotherapy molecules, offering a novel strategy to enhance the efficacy of monotherapy.

Although flavonoid compounds exhibit various pharmacological activities, their clinical applications are restricted by low oral bioavailability owing to their poor solubility. Nanocrystals (NCs) represent an excellent strategy for enhancing the oral bioavailability of flavonoids. Hydroxyethyl starch (HES), a biomaterial compound used as a plasma expander, could be an ideal stabilizer material for preparing flavonoid NCs.

HES was used to stabilize flavonoid nanocrystals (NCs), using luteolin (LUT) as a model drug. After full characterization, the freeze-drying and storage stability, solubility, intestinal absorption, pharmacokinetics, and in vivo anti-hyperuricemic effect of the optimized HES-stabilized LUT NCs (LUT-HES NCs) were investigated.

Uniformed LUT-HES NCs were prepared with mean particle size of 191.1±16.8 nm, zeta potential of about -23 mV, drug encapsulation efficiency of 98.52 ± 1.01%, and drug loading of 49.26 ± 0.50%. The freeze-dried LUT-HES NCs powder showed good re-dispersibility and storage stability for 9 months. Notably, compared with the coarse drug, LUT-HES NCs exhibited improved saturation solubility (7.49 times), increased drug dissolution rate, enhanced Caco-2 cellular uptake (2.78 times) and oral bioavailability (Fr=355.7%). Pharmacodynamic studies showed that LUT-HES NCs remarkably lowered serum uric acid levels by 69.93% and ameliorated renal damage in hyperuricemic mice.

HES is a potential stabilizer for poorly soluble flavonoid NCs and provides a promising strategy for the clinical application of these compounds. LUT-HES NCs may be an alternative or complementary strategy for hyperuricemia treatment.

Glucan is a natural polysaccharide widely distributed in cereals and microorganisms that has various biological activities, including immunomodulatory, anti-infective, anti-inflammatory, and antitumor activities. In addition to wide applications in the broad fields of food, healthcare, and biomedicines, glucans hold promising potential as drug delivery carrier materials or ligands. Specifically, glucan microparticles or yeast cell wall particles are naturally enclosed vehicles with an interior cavity that can be exploited to carry and deliver drug payloads. The biological activities and targeting capacities of glucans depend largely on the recognition of glucan moieties by receptors such as dectin-1 and complement receptor 3, which are widely expressed on the cell membranes of mononuclear phagocytes, dendritic cells, neutrophils, and some lymphocytes. This review summarizes the chemical structures, sources, fundamental properties, extraction methods, and applications of these materials, with an emphasis on drug delivery. Glucans are utilized mainly as vaccine adjuvants, targeting ligands and as carrier materials for various drug entities. It is believed that glucans and glucan microparticles may be useful for the delivery of both small-molecule and macromolecular drugs, especially for potential treatment of immune-related diseases.

Many brain diseases pose serious challenges to human life. Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and Parkinson's Disease (PD) are common neurodegenerative diseases that seriously threaten human health. Glioma is a common malignant tumor. However, drugs cannot cross physiological and pathological barriers and most therapeutic drugs cannot enter the brain because of the presence of the Blood-brain Barrier (BBB) and Bloodbrain Tumor Barrier (BBTB). How to enable drugs to penetrate the BBB to enter the brain, reduce systemic toxicity, and penetrate BBTB to exert therapeutic effects has become a challenge. Nanosuspension can successfully formulate drugs that are difficult to dissolve in water and oil by using surfactants as stabilizers, which is suitable for the brain target delivery of class II and IV drugs in the Biopharmaceutical Classification System (BCS). In nanosuspension drug delivery systems, the physical properties of nanostructures have a great impact on the accumulation of drugs at the target site, such as the brain. Optimizing the physical parameters of the nanosuspension can improve the efficiency of brain drug delivery and disease treatment. Therefore, the key challenges, influencing factors, and future perspectives of nanosuspension in enhancing brain drug delivery are summarized and reviewed here. This article aims to provide a better understanding of nanosuspension formulation technology used for brain delivery and strategies used to overcome various physiological barriers.

Drug nanosuspensions offer a promising approach to improve bioavailability for poorly soluble drug candidates. Such formulations often necessitate the inclusion of an excipient to stabilize the drug nanoparticles. However, the rationale for the choice of the correct excipient for a given drug candidate remains unclear. To gain molecular insight into formulation design, this work first utilizes a molecular dynamics simulation to computationally investigate drug-excipient interactions for a number of combinations that have been previously studied experimentally. We find that hydrophobic interactions drive excipient adsorption to drug nanoparticles and that the fraction of polar surface area serves as a predictor for experimental measurements of nanosuspension stability. To test these ideas prospectively, we applied our model to an uncharacterized drug compound, GDC-0810. Our simulations predicted that a salt form of GDC-0810 would lead to more stable nanosuspensions than the neutral form; therefore, we tested the stability of salt GDC-0810 nanosuspensions and found that the salt form readily formed nanosuspensions even without the excipient. To avoid computationally expensive simulations in the future, we extended our model by showing that simple, two-dimensional properties of single drug molecules can be used to rationalize nanosuspension designs without simulations. In all, our work demonstrates how computational tools can provide molecular insight into drug-excipient interactions and aid in rational formulation design.

Nanosuspensions (NSps) are colloidal dispersions of particles that have the potential to solve the delivery problems of active ingredients associated with their low solubility in water or instability due to environmental factors. It is essential to consider their chemical composition and preparation methods because they directly influence drug loading, size, morphology, solubility, and stability; these characteristics of nanosuspensions influence the delivery and bioavailability of active ingredients. NSps provides high loading of drugs, protection against degrading agents, rapid dissolution, high particle stability, and high bioavailability of active ingredients across biological membranes. In addition, they provide lower toxicity compared to other nanocarriers, such as liposomes or polymeric nanoparticles, and can modify the pharmacokinetic profiles, thus improving their safety and efficacy. The present review aims to address all aspects related to the composition of NSps, the different methods for their production, and the main factors affecting their stability. Moreover, recent studies are described as carriers of active ingredients and their biological activities.

Phytochemicals, such as resveratrol, curcumin, and quercetin, have many benefits for health, but most of them have a low bioavailability due to their poor water solubility and stability, quick metabolism, and clearance, which restricts the scope of their potential applications. To overcome these issues, different types of nanoparticles (NPs), especially biocompatible and biodegradable NPs, have been developed. NPs can carry phytochemicals and increase their solubility, stability, target specificity, and oral bioavailability. However, NPs are prone to irreversible aggregation, which leads to NP instability and loss of functions. To remedy this shortcoming, stabilizers like polymers and surfactants are incorporated on NPs. Stabilizers not only increase the stability of NPs, but also improve their characteristics. The current review focused on discussing the state of the art in research on synthesizing phytochemical-based NPs and their commonly employed stabilizers. Furthermore, stabilizers in these NPs were also discussed in terms of their applications, effects, and underlying mechanisms. This review aimed to provide more references for developing stabilizers and NPs for future research.

Herbal medicines have gained recognition among physicians and patients due to their lower adverse effects compared to modern medicines. They are extensively used to treat various diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular issues, chronic inflammation, microbial contamination, diabetes, obesity, and hepatic disorders, among others. Unfortunately, the clinical application of herbal medicines is limited by their low solubility and inadequate bioavailability. Utilizing herbal medicines in the form of nanocrystals (herbal medicine nanocrystals) has shown potential in enhancing solubility and bioavailability by reducing the particle size, increasing the specific surface area, and modifying the absorption mechanisms. Multiple studies have demonstrated that these nanocrystals significantly improve drug efficacy by reducing toxicity and increasing bioavailability. This review comprehensively examines therapeutic approaches based on herbal medicine nanocrystals. It covers the preparation principles, key factors influencing nucleation and polymorphism control, applications, and limitations. The review underscores the importance of optimizing delivery systems for successful herbal medicine nanocrystal therapeutics. Furthermore, it discusses the main challenges and opportunities in developing herbal medicine nanocrystals for the purpose of treating conditions such as cancer, inflammatory diseases, cardiovascular disorders, mental and nervous diseases, and antimicrobial infections. In conclusion, we have deliberated regarding the hurdles and forthcoming outlook in the realm of nanotoxicity, in vivo kinetics, herbal ingredients as stabilizers of nanocrystals, and the potential for surmounting drug resistance through the utilization of nanocrystalline formulations in herbal medicine. We anticipate that this review will offer innovative insights into the development of herbal medicine nanocrystals as a promising and novel therapeutic strategy.

Meloxicam is a selective cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor used for pain relief, but its poor solubility limits its clinical applications. QP001 is a novel intravenous formulation of meloxicam developed with PEG and pH regulator to improve its solubility. This study aimed to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of QP001 in Chinese healthy subjects.

The trial consisted of three parts. Part I was a two-period crossover study to evaluate bioavailability, in which 10 healthy were either intravenously infused with 15mg QP001 (test) or orally given 15mg MobicⓇ (reference). Part II was a single-arm design to assess the pharmacokinetic (PK) characteristics after 30 mg single- and multiple-dose QP001 in 10 subjects. In part III, we investigated the PKs and tolerability of QP001 at a high dose (60 mg) in another 10 subjects. The PK parameters and treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) were evaluated.

A total of 30 subjects were enrolled in the study. QP001 was well tolerated and safe without significant TEAEs in all three study parts. The PK characteristics of QP001 were linear following a single-dose range of 15-60 mg (Cmax and AUC0-t were 5.82-17.66 μg/mL and 58.08-251.17 μg∙h/mL, respectively). After five consecutive daily 30 mg doses, the accumulation index was around 1.98, which indicated a minimal accumulation of QP001. Compared to the tablet dosage form, the relative bioavailability of QP001 reached 116.85%. Additionally, the PK profile of QP001 showed no gender difference.

QP001 was well tolerated in healthy Chinese subjects after single ascending doses up to 60 mg and multiple-dose of 30 mg. Based on the PK and safety results, QP001 is a promising once-daily intravenous COX-2 inhibitor candidate for managing pain.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fifth malignancy in terms of frequency and the fourth malignancy in terms of cancer-related death worldwide. Systemic therapy of advanced HCC has probably gone through the greatest wave of change in the last decade, with the introduction of several anti-angiogenic drugs and immune checkpoint inhibitors, able to significantly improve patients' prognosis.

In this review, we summarize the pharmacokinetic characteristic of the antiangiogenic drugs currently approved for the treatment of HCC, from oral tyrosine kinase inhibitors (sorafenib, lenvatinib, regorafenib and cabozantinib) to monoclonal antibodies (bevacizumab and ramucirumab), focusing on the main aspects that differ among compounds from the same class, on factors that can exert an influence on pharmacokinetic parameters and the main issues that could limit their clinical use.

Anti-angiogenic drugs have different profiles in terms of bioavailability, metabolism, elimination and interindividual variability in their pharmacokinetics and effectiveness. More studies should be developed to address the intrinsic and extrinsic factors influencing pharmacokinetics parameters to improve the individual therapeutic response and, furthermore, to evaluate the benefit and the harm of systemic therapy for advanced HCC in selected patients with liver impairment.

Resveratrol (RES) is a common active factor in the functional food field, but poor water solubility and low bioavailability have limited its application. In the present study, the novel nanoparticles (RES-CBFMP NPs) using floral mushroom polysaccharide as the wall material have been developed for delivering RES, aiming to overcome its application shortcomings. After ratio optimization, RES-CBFMP NPs (RES-CBFMP,1:8 w/w), which combined through the hydrogen bonds between RES and CBFMP, showed the best overall performance, with the encapsulation efficiency (EE) of 49.74 ± 0.16%, loading efficiency (LE) of 5.53 ± 0.02%, particle size of 158.56 ± 1.97 nm and zeta-potential of -17.56 ± 0.24 mV. In addition, RES-CBFMP NPs exhibited good physicochemical stabilities, sustained gastrointestinal digestive release property, as well as improved in vitro antioxidant and anticancer activities. This study may contribute to the development of RES oral delivery systems and the application of hydrophobic active molecules in the functional food field.

Fungal β-glucans are naturally occurring active macromolecules used in food and medicine due to their wide range of biological activities and positive health benefits. Significant research efforts have been devoted over the past decade to producing fungal β-glucan-based nanomaterials and promoting their uses in numerous fields, including biomedicine. Herein, this review offers an up-to-date report on the synthetic strategies of common fungal β-glucan-based nanomaterials and preparation methods such as nanoprecipitation and emulsification. In addition, we highlight current examples of fungal β-glucan-based theranostic nanosystems and their prospective use for drug delivery and treatment in anti-cancer, vaccination, as well as anti-inflammatory treatments. It is anticipated that future advances in polysaccharide chemistry and nanotechnology will aid in the clinical translation of fungal β-glucan-based nanomaterials for the delivery of drugs and the treatment of illnesses.

Recently, lentinan (LNT) has been utilized for its diversified potential in research with an extended role from nutritional or medicinal applications to a novel biomaterial. LNT is a biocompatible, multifunctional polysaccharide employed as a pharmaceutical additive in engineering customized drug or gene carriers with an improved safety profile. Its triple helical structure containing hydrogen bonding offers more extraordinary binding sites for the attachments of dectin-1 receptors and polynucleotide sequences (poly(dA)). Hence, the diseases expressing dectin-1 receptors can be specifically targeted through so-designed LNT-engineered drug carriers. Gene delivery using poly(dA)-s-LNT complexes and composites has exhibited greater targetability and specificity. The achievement of such gene applications is assessed through the pH and redox potential of the extracellular cell membrane. The steric hindrance-acquiring behavior of LNT shows promise as a system stabilizer in drug carrier engineering. LNT shows viscoelastic gelling behavior temperature-dependently and therefore needs to explore more to meet topical disease applications. The immunomodulatory and vaccine adjuvant properties of LNT help in mitigating viral infections too. This review highlights the new role of LNT as a novel biomaterial, particularly in drug delivery and gene delivery applications. In addition, its importance in achieving various biomedical applications is also discussed.

The focus point of this current work is to evaluate the anticancer and growth inhibitory efficacy of compounds 5α,8α-epidioxy-24ᶓ-methylcholesta-6,22-dien-3β-ol (LT1), and Ergosta-5,7,22-trien-3β-ol (LT2) of Lentinus tuberregium (Fr.) on three cell lines such as A673 (Rhabdomyosarcoma), MCF7 (breast cancer), and HCT116 (colorectal carcinoma) by MTT assay. LT1 and LT2 exerted maximal growth inhibition in the order as A673 > HCT116 > MCF7. Comparatively, LT1 was more potent in causing cell growth inhibition than LT2 in the A673 cancer cell line. Based on the MTT assay, A673 cells alone proceeded further as a model to evaluate the anticancer potential of LT1 and LT2 at three different semilogarithmic concentrations (3, 10, 30 μM). The cells exposed with compounds at 24 and 48 h were analyzed by flow cytometry. Exposure of LT1 at 3 and 10 μM concentrations for 24 h caused a G2-M arrest. At 10 μM concentration, cells also accumulated in the G0-G1 phase, indicating a G1 block. These effects were only transient as prolonged exposure (48 h) of LT1 treatment brought back the cell population to normalcy. Both the compounds only at 30 μM concentration have the potential to induce a hypodiploid peak (sub G0), indicating an induction of apoptosis which was explicit by nuclear condensation and fragmentation of nuclei in cells. The dose-dependent and compound-specific apoptotic induction was further confirmed by caspase activity higher in LT1 than LT2. The results highlight the significant growth inhibitory activity and anticancer potential of LT1 and LT2 which are recommended for further in-depth analysis.

Meloxicam (MLX) is considered to have significant analgesic properties. However, the analgesic effects of MLX are compromised by its poor water solubility and thus the low drug loading. The purpose of this study was to develop a high drug-loaded MLX injection by formulating it into nanocrystals (NCs) for the treatment of analgesia. The developed MLXNCs exhibited satisfactory particle sizes and remarkably in vitro dissolution behaviors. In addition, the plasma concentrations of MLXNCs were comparable with the MLX solution (formulated with 1.0% polyoxyethylene castor oil 35) in rats. The acetic acid-induced writhing tests, hot plate tests and hind paw incision experiments demonstrated that the MLXNCs had significant analgesic effects. The findings provide insights into the developed high drug-loaded MLXNCs and provide new therapeutic options for acute and chronic pain management.

With the development in tumor immunology, people are gradually understanding the complexity and diversity of the tumor microenvironment immune status and its important effect on tumors. Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), an important part of the tumor immune microenvironment, have a double effect on tumor growth and metastasis. Many studies have focused on lung cancer, especially non-small cell lung cancer and other "hot tumors" with typical inflammatory characteristics. The polarization and infiltration of TAMs is an important mechanism in the occurrence and development of malignant tumors, such as lung cancer, and in the tumor immune microenvironment. Therapeutic drugs designed for these reasons are key to targeting TAMs in the treatment of lung cancer. A large number of reports have suggested that natural compounds have a strong potential of affecting immunity by targeting the polarization and infiltration of TAMs to improve the immune microenvironment of lung cancer and exert a natural antitumor effect. This paper discusses the infiltration and polarization effects of natural compounds on lung cancer TAMs, provides a detailed classification and systematic review of natural compounds, and summarizes the bias of different kinds of natural compounds by affecting their antitumor mechanism of TAMs, with the aim of providing new perspectives and potential therapeutic drugs for targeted macrophages in the treatment of lung cancer.
