Abstract
Nutritional management has emerged as an effective strategy to mitigate the risks of malnutrition and disease-related mortality among patients. The emergence of novel food types, particularly foods for special medical purposes (FSMPs), has garnered increasing attention from researchers and businesses. 3D printing (3DP) technology, alternatively known as food additive manufacturing, has gained popularity among novel food developers due to its distinct capabilities in tailoring nutrition, appearance, texture, and enhancing overall edible quality. This review examines current market trends, product forms, and unique characteristics of FSMPs, highlighting the progress made in applying 3DP to the development of functional foods and drugs. Despite its potential medical benefits, there are limited instances of direct utilization of 3DP in the production of such specialized food type. Currently, the FSMP market faces several challenges, including limited product diversity, inadequate formula design, and a lack of product appeal. 3DP offers significant advantages in catering to the unique needs of special patients, encompassing both physiological medical benefits and enhanced sensory as well as psychological eating experiences. It holds great promise in promoting precision medicine and personalized home-based FSMPs preparations. This review will delve into the development strategies and feasibility of 3DP in creating specialized medical food for patients with unique conditions and across different age groups. Additionally, it explores the potential challenges of applying 3DP to the FSMP sector, such as regulatory frameworks, patient acceptance, cost of 3D-printed FSMPs, and the improvement of 3DP.

Abstract
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the leading cause of dementia in older individuals and is an escalating challenge to global public health. Pharmacy therapy of AD is one of the well-funded areas; however, little progress has been made due to the complex pathogenesis. Recent evidence has demonstrated that modifying risk factors and lifestyle may prevent or delay the incidence of AD by 40%, which suggests that the management should pivot from single pharmacotherapy toward a multipronged approach because AD is a complex and multifaceted disease. Recently, the gut-microbiota-brain axis has gained tremendous traction in the pathogenesis of AD through bidirectional communication with multiple neural, immune, and metabolic pathways, providing new insights into novel therapeutic strategies. Dietary nutrition is an important and profound environmental factor that influences the composition and function of the microbiota. The Nutrition for Dementia Prevention Working Group recently found that dietary nutrition can affect cognition in AD-related dementia directly or indirectly through complex interactions of behavioral, genetic, systemic, and brain factors. Thus, considering the multiple etiologies of AD, nutrition represents a multidimensional factor that has a profound effect on AD onset and development. However, mechanistically, the effect of nutrition on AD is uncertain; therefore, optimal strategies or the timing of nutritional intervention to prevent or treat AD has not been established.Thus, this review summarizes the current state of knowledge concerning nutritional disorders, AD patient and caregiver burden, and the roles of nutrition in the pathophysiology of AD. We aim to emphasize knowledge gaps to provide direction for future research and to establish optimal nutrition-based intervention strategies for AD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Diverse indicators have been used to represent adipose tissue, while the relationship between body adipose mass and the prognosis of patients with cancer remains controversial. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to explore the indicators of optimal body composition that represent body fat mass to predict risk of cancer-related mortality. METHODS We conducted a population-based multicenter prospective cohort study of patients with initial cancer between February 2012 and September 2020. Clinical information, body composition indicators, hematologic test results, and follow-up data were collected. Body composition indicators were analyzed using principal component analysis to select the most representative indicators, and the cutoff value was set according to the optimal stratification method. The hazard ratio (HR) for mortality was calculated using Cox proportional hazards regression models. RESULTS Among 14,018 patients with complete body composition data, visceral fat area (VFA) is a more optimal indicator for body fat content (principal component index: 0.961) than body mass index (principal component index: 0.850). The cutoff points for VFA in terms of time to mortality were 66 cm2 and 102 cm2 for gastric/esophageal cancer and other cancers, respectively. Among the 2788 patients treated systemically, multivariate analyses demonstrated that a lower VFA was associated with a higher risk of death in patients with cancer of diverse types (HR: 1.33; 95% CI: 1.08, 1.64; P = 0.007), especially gastric cancer (HR: 2.13; 95% CI: 1.3, 3.49; P = 0.003), colorectal cancer HR: 1.81; 95% CI: 1.06, 3.08; P = 0.030) and nonsmall-cell lung cancer (HR: 1.27; 95% CI: 1.01, 1.59; P = 0.040). CONCLUSION VFA is an independent prognostic indicator of muscle mass in patients with diverse types of cancer, particularly gastric, colorectal, and nonsmall-cell lung cancers. Abstract
Malnutrition is a common comorbidity among patients with cancer. However, no nutrition-screening tool has been recognized in this population. A quick and easy screening tool for nutrition with high sensitivity and easy-to-use is needed. Based on the previous 25 nutrition-screening tools, the Delphi method was made by the members of the Chinese Society of Nutritional Oncology to choose the most useful item from each category. According to these results, we built a nutrition-screening tool named age, intake, weight, and walking (AIWW). Malnutrition was defined based on the scored patient-generated subjective global assessment (PG-SGA). Concurrent validity was evaluated using the Kendall tau coefficient and kappa consistency between the malnutrition risks of AIWW, nutritional risk screening 2002 (NRS-2002), and malnutrition screening tool (MST). Clinical benefit was calculated by the decision curve analysis (DCA), integrated discrimination improvement (IDI), and continuous net reclassification improvement (cNRI). A total of 11,360 patients (male, n=6,024 (53.0%) were included in the final study cohort, and 6,363 patients had malnutrition based on PG-SGA. Based on AIWW, NRS-2002, and MST, 7,545, 3,469, and 1,840 patients were at risk of malnutrition, respectively. The sensitivities of AIWW, NRS-2002, and MST risks were 0.910, 0.531, and 0.285, and the specificities were 0.768, 0.946, and 0.975. The Kendall tau coefficients of AIWW, NRS-2002, and MST risks were 0.588, 0.501, and 0.326, respectively. The area under the curve of AIWW, NRS-2002, and MST risks were 0.785, 0.739, and 0.630, respectively. The IDI, cNRI, and DCA showed that AIWW is non-inferior to NRS-2002 (IDI: 0.002 (-0.009, 0.013), cNRI: -0.015 (-0.049, 0.020)). AIWW scores can also predict the survival of patients with cancer. The missed diagnosis rates of AIWW, NRS-2002, and MST were 0.09%, 49.0%, and 73.2%, respectively. AIWW showed a better nutrition-screening effect than NRS-2002 and MST for patients with cancer and could be recommended as an alternative nutrition-screening tool for this population.

Abstract
Background We wanted to evaluate if a visual nutritional indicator (VNI), which shows the total amount of calories and protein, can improve the quality of nutritional therapy (NT) and result in better clinical outcomes prospectively. Materials and methods We randomly assigned patients to VNI or non-VNI (NVNI) groups. In the VNI group, VNI was attached to the patient's bed for the attending physician. The primary goal was a higher supply of calories and proteins. The secondary goals were the shorter length of intensive care unit (ICU) stay, mechanical ventilation, and renal replacement therapy. Results The total calorie supply was 18.6 kcal/kg and 15.6 kcal/kg in the VNI and NVNI groups, respectively (p = 0.04). The total protein supply was 0.92 g/kg and 0.71 g/kg, respectively (p = 0.05). The length of ICU stay was 5.6 days and 5.3 days in the VNI and NVNI groups, respectively (p = 0.09). The length of mechanical ventilation was 3.6 days and 3.8 days, respectively (p = 0.07). The length of renal replacement therapy was 5.7 days and 6.3 days, respectively (p = 0.13). The mortality on the seventh day was 14.6% and 16.1% in the VNI and NVNI groups, respectively (p = 0.08). The mortality on the thirtieth day was 20 and 20.8%, respectively (p = 0.87). Conclusion Visual nutritional indicator, indicating the total amount of calories and protein provided, can improve the quality of NT but fail to obtain a better clinical outcome. Abstract
Purpose The incidence, progression, and prognosis of cancer could be affected by inflammation and nutrition. Female patients have different inflammatory and nutritional states depending on their age and tumor types. It is important to screen for suitable prognostic indicators in female patients with cancer of different ages and tumor types. Patients and Methods Baseline clinicopathologic and laboratory characteristics of 1502 female patients with cancer were obtained from a multicenter cohort study. Concordance indices (C-indices) were used to evaluate the prediction accuracy of following inflammation- and nutrition-based indicators: advanced lung cancer inflammation index (ALI), systemic immune inflammation index (SII), modified geriatric nutritional risk index (mGNRI), albumin-to-globulin ratio (AGR), prognostic nutritional index (PNI), lymphocyte-to-C-reactive protein ratio (LCR), controlling nutritional status score (CONUT), modified Glasgow prognostic score (mGPS), and lymphocyte-to-C-reactive protein score (LCS). Results The most suitable indicators in different female populations with cancer had C-indices as follows: LCR (0.668; 95% CI, 0.644–0.693) for all females; AGR (0.681; 95% CI, 0.619–0.743) for young females; LCR (0.667; 95% CI, 0.628–0.706) for middle-aged females; ALI (0.597; 95% CI, 0.574–0.620) for elderly females; LCR (0.684; 95% CI, 0.621–0.747) for females with reproductive system cancer; and ALI (0.652; 95% CI, 0.624–0.680) for females with non-reproductive system cancer. Conclusion The most suitable indicators for the different female populations with cancer are summarized as follows: LCR for all females, AGR for young females, LCR for middle-aged females, ALI for elderly females, LCR for females with reproductive system cancer, and ALI for females with non-reproductive system cancer.

Abstract
Ovarian cancer is a malignancy that seriously endangers women’s health; its case fatality rate ranks first among the gynecological malignancies. The status of nutrition of ovarian cancer patients is related to their prognoses. Thus, it is important to evaluate, monitor, and improve the nutritional status of ovarian cancer patients during their treatment. Currently, there are several tools for examining malnutrition and nutritional assessment, including NRI (nutrition risk index), PG-SGA (patient-generated subjective global assessment), and NRS 2002 (nutritional risk screening 2002). In addition to malnutrition risk examination and related assessment tools, the evaluation of muscle mass, C-reactive protein, lymphocytes, and other inflammation status indicators, such as neutrophils to lymphocytes ratio, lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio, and C-reactive protein-albumin ratio, is of great importance. The nutritional status of ovarian cancer patients undergoing surgery affects their postoperative complications and survival rates. Accurate evaluation of perioperative nutrition in ovarian cancer patients is crucial in clinical settings. An intelligent nutritional diagnosis can be developed based on the results of its systematic and comprehensive assessment, which would lay a foundation for the implementation of personalized and precise nutritional therapy.
