Abstract
BACKGROUND Social media can significantly impact body image perception among adolescents. OBJECTIVE This study examines how exposure to fitspiration content relates to body esteem, with a focus on gender differences and BMI. METHODS A cross-sectional online survey was conducted among 211 participants using validated instruments (Body Esteem Scale, A. Sobczak's silhouette scale). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and chi-square tests. RESULTS Exposure to athletic images decreased self-esteem in 37% of participants, particularly among women (p = 0.004). Gender significantly influenced the tendency to compare oneself with athletic individuals (p = 0.02). BMI was not significantly associated with body image perception (p = 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Gender-specific patterns in social media-related body image perception highlight the need for targeted interventions to mitigate negative impacts among young adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The university period generally involves dropping out of sporting activities and higher levels of stress. However, studies addressing the consequences of these changes in the self-esteem of university students are very scarce. AIM To determine the relationship between physical activity (PA), sedentary lifestyle and self-esteem levels in university students, and to analyse the differences according to gender. DESIGN Cross-sectional online survey of 314 spanish university students. METHODS Global self-esteem was assessed with the Rosenberg self-esteem scale. PA was measured using the short version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ-SF). An analysis of variance (ANOVA) model was used to evaluate differences between total self-esteem values by PA categories (low-moderate-high). Pearson's correlation was used to analyse the association of global self-esteem with the level of total PA and with a sedentary lifestyle. RESULTS Physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and self-esteem scores were higher in men than in women. High levels of PA were positively correlated to self-esteem in the total sample; and sedentary behaviour was inversely correlated to self-esteem in the total sample and women. The differences between men and women in self-esteem were not significant in participants that engaged in vigorous PA. CONCLUSIONS Engaging in PA was related to better self-esteem. A sedentary lifestyle had a greater impact on women's self-esteem. When women engage in vigorous physical activity, their self-esteem equals that of men. These findings could serve as a basis for developing strategies to promote mental health through physical activity. IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PROFESSION AND/OR PATIENT CARE Our findings could help Mental Health Nurses, Community Health Nurses and university policymakers take steps to promote physical activity, with a gender perspective, within university curriculum enhancement strategies, with the goal of improving self-esteem and mental health in young people during a critical period of transition to adulthood. IMPACT (ADDRESSING) What problem did the study address? This study addressed the relationship between the self-esteem of university students and their physical activity levels, emphasising the role of sedentary behaviour and gender differences. What were the main findings? The practice of PA was associated with higher self-esteem. The differences in self-esteem between men and women were not significant among those who participated in vigorous physical activity. Additionally, a sedentary lifestyle had a greater negative impact on women's self-esteem. Where and on whom will the research have an impact? The implementation of physical activity programs in the university setting is a key factor in improving students' self-esteem. These programs should be designed from a gender perspective to better address students' specific needs. Additionally, nurses, particularly those working in mental health and community health, play a critical role in promoting physical activity as a preventive and therapeutic strategy for mental health issues. Integrating physical activity recommendations into routine health assessments and university-based interventions could facilitate the early identification of students at risk of low self-esteem and associated mental health challenges. From a nursing perspective, structured exercise programmes, active breaks during classes and active learning methodologies that incorporate physical movement with academic content could contribute to creating a healthier university environment and improving students' psychological well-being. Abstract
Introduction Medical students experience significantly more mental burdens compared to the general public. This circumstance was further exacerbated by the pandemic, particularly with regard to loneliness. While previous studies have identified risk factors for loneliness among students of different subjects, recent data focusing on medical students during the late stages of the pandemic remain insufficient. This study aims to address this gap. Methods We performed a cross-sectional study at a German Medical School, consisting of two online surveys conducted in winter 2021/22 and summer 2022. The study sample, composed of 283 undergraduate students in winter 2021/22 (231 in summer 2022), answered five well-established scales for measuring loneliness (R-UCLA3), distress (DT-NCCN), anxiety (GAD-2), depression (PHQ-2), and perceived stress (PPS-4). Additionally, we evaluated burdensome aspects of students' current situation through qualitative analysis. Longitudinal analyses were conducted for 80 medical students who participated in both surveys. Results Around 20% of all students responded to each survey. In winter 2021/22, 55.1% of students reported loneliness above the cut-off (M = 5.77 [2.02]; decreasing to 45.0% by summer 2022 (M = 5.22 [1.90]). Lonely students reported significantly higher levels of depression, anxiety, and self-perceived stress in both survey periods. Overall distress increased substantially throughout our study (Cohen's d = -0.54). Binary regression models indicated a shift in loneliness risk factors: in winter 2021/22, being single, higher self-perceived stress levels, and decreased study motivation were associated with increased loneliness. Lower peer connectedness emerged as the sole significant factor associated with loneliness in summer 2022. While the pandemic-related burden on students' study motivation lessened, issues related to exam preparation and lack of study organization through the faculty increased, varying significantly depending on students' study year. Conclusion Our data suggest that loneliness among German medical students decreased in the late stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, other mental burdens persisted at high levels compared to other data in the general public and medical students. Students' responses underscore the need for improved academic support by eased study program structure, improved counseling, and tailored services for students of different study years.

Abstract
Background Excessive digital screen time (EDST), which is defined as screen use that surpasses recommended limits, has been found to have detrimental effects on students' mental health and academic performance. However, there is a paucity of studies investigating EDST in university students in Thailand. Objective To investigate the prevalence, characteristics, and associations of excessive digital screen time with students' mental health, sleep quality, and academic performance. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted at Southern University, Thailand, between December 2023 and January 2024. A total of 446 students completed self-administered questionnaires assessing DST characteristics, mental health, sleep quality, and academic performance. The tools used included the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, UCLA Loneliness Scale, and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. DST was analyzed by device type and average weekly usage hours, focusing on smartphones, tablets, and computers. EDST was defined as daily usage exceeding 8 hours for smartphones, 6 hours for tablets, or 5 hours for computers. Participants exceeding these thresholds on any device were classified as having EDST. Sampling was conducted using quota sampling across faculties. Data were analyzed using chi-square tests, rank sum tests, and logistic regression, with significance set at P<0.05. Results Students' median age was 20 years (67.9% women). Most participants used smartphones for 4-6 hours daily (29.7%), tablets for <4 hours (29.8%), and computers for <4 hours (62.6%). Smartphones were primarily used for social media (73.1%), while tablets (28.4%) and computers (19.3%) were used for educational purposes. The prevalence of EDST was 48.4%, including 29.4% on tablets, 22.9% on smartphones, and 7.6% on computers. EDST was significantly associated with younger age (AOR 0.79; 95% CI 0.66-0.94) and enrollment in health science faculties (AOR 1.7; 95% CI 1.01-2.86). Conclusion A high prevalence of EDST was observed among university students, particularly on smartphones and tablets. Younger students and those in health science programs were more prone to EDST, potentially due to higher academic demands and social media use. Interventions to enhance self-awareness, regulate screen time, and develop time management skills are recommended to mitigate its negative effects on mental health and academic performance.

Abstract
Social media has become more common in today's digital society, providing individuals with significant opportunities for social connection and information sharing. However, there are concerns about the potential effects of social media on mental health. This study aimed to assess the extent of social media use and its correlation with mental health indicators among health sciences students at Mogadishu University. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 268 participants selected using stratified random sampling. The findings revealed that 84.7% of the students spent more than three hours daily on social media. The high extent of social media use was significantly associated with sleep disturbance (AOR: 2.7; 95% CI: 1.04-7.04), mental exhaustion (AOR: 4.7; 95% CI: 1.80-12.46), social isolation (AOR: 7.4; 95% CI: 1.62-33.35), and anxiety (AOR: 22.2; 95% CI: 3.73-131.70). University students heavily use social media, which negatively impacts their psychological well-being. This highlights the need for responsible usage and institutional guidelines to mitigate these effects. Educating students on managing social media time and fostering healthy habits is essential to prevent health issues. Parents and lecturers should monitor usage and create schedules for study and social media.

Abstract
Background Prior literature suggests that fitness posts exposure on social media increases female body image concerns. However, little research has been conducted to examine the effect of fitness posts exposure on female body esteem. Objective Given that, two studies were conducted to investigate how fitness posts exposure on social media exerted an influence on female body esteem. Method and results By using a questionnaire survey (n = 270), we in Study 1 measured participants' frequency of fitness posts exposure on social media, body esteem, body surveillance, and appearance contingent self-worth. The results showed that fitness posts exposure was significantly and positively related to female body esteem, and body surveillance played a mediating role between them. And this mediation was further moderated by appearance contingent self-worth. Simple slope analysis showed that fitness posts exposure had a significantly positive prediction on body surveillance at the high level of appearance contingent self-worth, but the prediction of fitness posts exposure was not significant at the low level of appearance contingent self-worth. Study 2 was a lab experiment, in which we randomly assigned 180 female undergraduates to the fitness-appearance exposure condition, the fitness-performance exposure condition, and the travel image exposure condition. Then, we asked participants to report body surveillance and body esteem. The results showed that participants in the fitness-appearance exposure condition reported higher body surveillance and lower body esteem than participants in the other two conditions. Consistent with Study 1, Study 2 revealed the mediating role of body surveillance between exposure condition and body esteem. Conclusion Fitness posts exposure produces a negative influence on female body esteem via the mediation of body surveillance, and this pattern is more obvious among women with high appearance contingent self-worth. Appearance-relevant content involved in fitness posts, rather than pure fitness performance, harms female body esteem.

Abstract
PURPOSE To estimate the time trend in the prevalence of suicidal behaviors including ideation and attempts in Chinese adolescents; to examine the association between suicidal behaviors and overweight (OW)/obesity (OB) and self-perceived weight status. METHODS Data from Youth Risk Behavior Surveys conducted in Ningbo in 2007, 2012, 2017 and 2022 were used for the study. A multistage sampling procedure was used to select respondents aged 12 to 19 years who participated in each survey. Repeated cross-sectional data of anthropometry, weight perception and suicidal behaviors were collected through self-administered questionnaires. A generalized linear model was used to assess associations of ideation and attempts, and weight status and self-perceived weight status. RESULTS The sample sizes for each survey wave were 937, 889, 1528 and 2655. The prevalence of ideation increased from 11.95% in 2007 to 18.15% in 2022, while the prevalence of attempts remained stable (4.48%-4.26%). An increasing trend in ideation and attempts was found in adolescents who were OW/obese and self-perceived OW/OB from 2007 to 2022. Self-perceived OW/OB adolescents had a significant increase in ideation. Girls had higher likelihood of ideation and attempts for both weight status and self- perceived weight status. While, adolescents aged 12.0-15.9 years had higher odds of ideation than those aged 16.0-19.9 years. CONCLUSION Adolescents' self-weight perception, rather than actual weight status, is a critical risk factor of increased likelihood of ideation and attempts in Chinese adolescents. Our findings can support to promote self-esteem growth in school-based health education programmes for prevention of suicidality and psychological health problems.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Eating disorders (EDs) result from complex interactions of biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors, disproportionately affecting adolescents and young adults. Social media, peer pressure, and self-esteem issues contribute to ED prevalence. This study examines ED risk, eating behaviors, and self-esteem among individuals aged 16-25, exploring differences by gender, age, and social media usage. METHODS A total of 261 participants (113 high school students, 115 college students, 33 working individuals) completed the Computer-Assisted Web Interview (CAWI) between April and June 2024. This study utilized the Eating Attitudes Test-26 (EAT-26), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (SES), and My Eating Habits (MEH) questionnaires. Statistical analyses, including chi-square tests and linear regression, assessed associations between ED risk, self-esteem, and social media activity. RESULTS ED risk was identified in 47% (n = 123) of participants, with the highest prevalence in high school students (56.6%, n = 64). Significant gender differences were observed (p < 0.001), with males in the high school group showing elevated ED risk (64%, n = 32). Body dissatisfaction and frequent social media comparisons increased ED risk (p < 0.001); 45.7% (n = 102) of participants who often compared their bodies online reported heightened risk. Photo manipulation correlated with higher ED risk (p = 0.005). Regression analysis revealed a significant relationship between ED risk and restrictive dieting (estimate = 0.9239; p < 0.001), while self-esteem had no significant effect (estimate = 0.00503, p = 0.977). CONCLUSIONS This study highlights high ED risk driven by social media and body dissatisfaction. Interventions should focus on body image issues, self-acceptance, and media literacy. This study focused on a specific age group (16-25) in Poland, which may limit the ability to generalize the results to other demographic or cultural groups. Future research should include more diverse populations and objective measurements.

Abstract
Background/Objectives: This study aimed to explore the effects of Instagram use on body satisfaction and self-esteem in young adults 20 to 40 years (N = 95). Given the widespread use of social media and its potential influence on body image, we sought to understand how Instagram use may contribute to body dissatisfaction and self-esteem, particularly through quantitative analysis of self-report measures. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design in which the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ), and additional ad hoc questions designed to assess Instagram usage patterns were employed. Results: The results indicated that greater Instagram use is associated with increased body dissatisfaction (p = 0.005), although it did not significantly affect self-esteem (p = 0.211). Gender did not play a significant role in these relationships (p = 0.173). Notably, a significant positive correlation was found between body satisfaction and self-esteem, showing that individuals with higher body satisfaction also reported higher self-esteem (p < 0.001). Further analyses indicated that users exposed to appearance-centered content were more likely to report body dissatisfaction. Conclusions: These findings suggest that Instagram usage, particularly in the context of appearance-focused content, has a considerable impact on body dissatisfaction among young adults but does not appear to influence self-esteem. This highlights the importance of developing interventions focused on promoting healthy social media habits and critical content engagement to mitigate negative impacts on body image. Social media exposure should be a key component in future interventions designed to improve body image and overall psychological well-being.

Abstract
The current study contributes to the literature by assessing the associations between personal values, explored with Schwartz`s Portrait Values Questionnaire, social media behaviors, assessed with Bergen Scale of Social Media Addiction and Social Media Motivations to Use Scale and psychological well-being assessed with Patient Health Questionnaire-4, in a sample of first-year medical students. It was examined medical students' personal values profiles and the perceived influence of social media on self-aspects. All participants (N = 151) were Romanian and English module students, young (average age = 19.2, SD = 1.5), 68,9% females and 31,1% males. Pearson coefficient correlation analyses were performed to verify the associations between the main four clusters of personal values (Self Transcendence, Self Enhancement, Openness to change and Conservationism) with social media behaviors and psychological wellbeing. The most frequent cluster of values was Self-Transcendence (M = 5.21) while the least was Self-Enhancement (M = 4.05). There was no significant correlation between social media addiction, psychological wellbeing and a specific cluster of values while the perception of self-aspects influenced by social media included involvement in community problems, creativity for Openness to change group (R = .24;.22, p < .05), tolerance towards sexual minorities and self-evaluation in Self Transcendence group (R = .24;.21;.42, p < .05) while Conservationism and Self Enhancement groups didn`t report any change. The findings highlight the need for awareness and education of medical students and general population in the field of Digital Ethics including social media complex impact on personal values as AI-algorithms may imply a potential destabilization and perpetual shaping of one`s behavior with still unpredictable individual and societal effects.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Understanding the relationship of social network use and addictive behaviors with adolescent psychosocial health is crucial in today's digital age. AIM To verify the associations between social network use, messaging applications, and the addictive behaviors to social network with psychosocial health in Spanish adolescents. METHODS A cross-sectional study was developed with 632 adolescents, aged 12 to 17 years from the Region of Murcia, Spain. The assessment of social network use (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok) involved evaluating the frequency of use of each social network individually using a single-item scale with five response options. WhatsApp use (i.e., a messaging application) was evaluated in the same manner. The Short Social Networks Addiction Scale-6 Symptoms was employed to assess potential addictive behaviors to social network use. The psychosocial health was assessed using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire. Generalized linear regression models were conducted, and predictive probabilities of having psychosocial health problems were calculated. RESULTS The predicted probability of presenting psychosocial health problems in the medium users and high users of social networks was 19.3% (95% confidence interval [CI] 13.0 to 27.7), and 16.2% (95% CI 10.2 to 24.6) higher compared to low users, respectively. High usage of Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and Facebook was associated with increased probabilities of psychosocial health problems, with Facebook showing the highest probabilities, at 31.3% (95% CI 14.8 to 54.2) for medium users and 51.9% (95% CI 26.5 to 76.3) for high users. Additionally, adolescents with addictive behaviors to social network use had from 19.0 to 25.2% probabilities of experiencing psychosocial health problems. Finally, the highest probabilities of having psychosocial health problems were identified in adolescents with high addictive behaviors when using social networks (28.9%; 95% CI 19.3 to 40.8%) and the lowest in those with low addictive behaviors (6.8%; 95% CI 3.3 to 13.6%). CONCLUSION Adolescents who use social networks more frequently and exhibit more addictive behaviors related to their use are more likely to experience psychosocial health problems compared to those who do not. Facebook showed the strongest association, followed by Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok. Our data also revealed that adolescents exhibit various signs of addictive behaviors to social network use.

Abstract
Adolescents with hemophilia are a patient population with special requirements, having to manage their condition alongside the typical challenges of adolescence. Given the psychosocial impact of hemophilia and a desire to fit in with non-hemophilic peers, they may perceive treatment as more of a burden than a benefit. This can result in low adherence and a high risk of hemophilia-related complications. Hemophilia management has changed over time. To best inform shared decision-making with adolescent patients and their families, healthcare professionals must consider all the currently available evidence, highlighting treatment benefits as appropriate. They should also appreciate the requirements of all adolescents affected by hemophilia, including individuals with non-severe disease and girls/women. We discuss specific issues relating to the management of adolescents with hemophilia: prevention and management of bleeds, treatment adherence, joint health and physical activity, and other health-related issues. A multidisciplinary approach is advocated, and the potential role of digital technology in helping to equip patients with self-management skills to fully engage with treatment is considered. Currently, available hemophilia management generally enables adolescents with hemophilia to lead normal lives, participating in physical activities while maintaining good joint health. However, more work is required to help address both actual and perceived limitations.

This narrative review explores loneliness among medical students, particularly heightened during the COVID-19 pandemic. This review aims to narratively describe how the digital age, both pre- and post-pandemic, influences loneliness and to assess the psychological effects of the pandemic on medical students. Our literature search, adhering to SANRA guidelines, scrutinized studies published in the last ten years focusing on loneliness among medical students. Our findings reveal that medical students experienced significant loneliness during the pandemic, attributed to virtual learning environments and decreased social interactions. Notably, the transition to online education has mitigated and exacerbated feelings of isolation. The review also highlights the dual role of social media in either alleviating or intensifying loneliness, depending on usage patterns and platform types. Overall, our study underscores the need for targeted interventions and support systems to address the mental well-being of medical students in the digital age and beyond, providing crucial insights for future research and policy-making in educational and psychological support frameworks.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: This study aims to assess the health status and factors influencing healthy choices among children and young people in Romania, as well as the efficacy of related health education programs. Through understanding these dynamics, the study seeks to provide insights that can shape targeted interventions, policies, and educational strategies to improve this demographic's overall health and well-being. Materials and Methods: For this study, we performed a literature review of original published papers on the health status, healthy habits, health education, predisposition to making healthy choices in the future, and accessibility to the paediatric health system of Romanian children and young people, as well as the effects of different types of educational interventions on this demographic in Romania. Results: The prevalence of dental caries is high in Romania. In terms of eating habits and nutritional status, a worrying proportion of children are overweight or obese, which can lead to a variety of future physical and psychological problems. In terms of physical activity, few adolescents demonstrate regular fitness practices. Romania presents an increase in alcohol and tobacco consumption among adolescents. The mental health of students has become a pressing public health concern, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The use of social networks is linked to mental health issues among young people. Romania still has one of the highest rates of sexually transmitted diseases and faces a high incidence of cervical cancer, with a mortality rate three times higher than the EU average. High rates of teenage pregnancies are linked to limited information about sexuality and a lack of access to family planning at a young age. There are large discrepancies in the accessibility of medical services between urban and rural areas. Conclusions: Romania faces significant obstacles to providing high-quality healthcare to children and young people. Improving nutrition, immunisation rates, and access to medical services represent essential areas for enhancing the health of children and young people in Romania.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Some studies have examined the relationship between internalization of media appearance ideals and eating disorders. However, few have discussed the relationship between eating disorder tendencies. To fill this research gap, this study was to explore the influencing mechanisms of internalization of media appearance ideals on adolescents' eating disorder tendencies in Chinese cultural context. METHOD The Sociocultural Attitudes Towards Appearance Questionnaire, Eating Attitude Test-26, Physical Self-Description Questionnaire, Body Image Depression Questionnaire and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support were employed in this study to investigate 1523 adolescents. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 24.0. RESULT The results showed that: (1) internalization of media appearance ideals had a significant positive predictive effect on adolescents' eating disorder tendencies; (2) internalization of media appearance ideals significantly influenced adolescents' eating disorder tendencies through the mediating role of body esteem and body image disturbance respectively, and also influenced eating disorder tendencies through the chain mediating of both; and (3) social support played a moderating role between body image disturbance and eating disorder tendency. CONCLUSION Our findings suggest distinct pathways through which internalization of media appearance ideals may influence adolescents' eating disorder tendencies. It is suggested that reducing body image disturbance and enhancing social support can help reducing eating disorder tendency.

Background and aim The correlation between eating attitudes, positive body image, and body esteem is a pivotal area of research that has garnered substantial attention in recent years, given its implications for both mental and physical well-being. The objective of this study was to examine the interplay between positive body image, body esteem, and eating attitudes within an Iranian population. Materials and methods This study employed a cross-sectional study design and was conducted in the year 2022. A convenience sample of 752 participants residing in Tehran, Iran, was included in the study. The data collection tools were comprised of a demographic registration form, the Adolescence/Adults Scale (PBIAS), the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT), and the Body Esteem Scale (BES) as measurement instruments. Results Mean age of participants was 26.36 (SD = 8.49). Significant relationships were found among positive body image (B = - 0.095, β = -0.150, p < 0.001), and body esteem (B = 0.175, β = 0.149, p < 0.001) with eating attitudes. Conclusion These findings suggest that individuals with positive body image and high body esteem may have healthier eating attitudes, while those with negative body image and low body esteem may be more likely to have unhealthy eating attitudes.

Abstract
Background The association between body weight perception and intuitive eating among undergraduate students in China remains insufficiently understood. In the present study, we were aimed to examine the correlation between body weight perception, body image, and intuitive eating and determine whether the link between body weight perception and intuitive eating was influenced by body image. Methods A total of 1,050 undergraduate students completed the survey. Participants provided self-reported demographic details and completed two structured scales. The Body Esteem Scale for Adolescents and Adults (BESAA) and the Intuitive Eating Scale-2 (IES-2) were employed to assess body image and intuitive eating. Analysis of the mediation model was conducted using version 4.1 of the PROCESS Macro. Results with a value of p less than 0.05 were deemed statistically significant. Results The average age of the participants was 20.08 years (SD = 1.64). Among the students, 837 (79.7%) were female, and 212 (20.3%) were male. Body image (r = -0.429, p < 0.001) and intuitive eating (r = -0.313, p < 0.001) exhibited significant negative associations with body weight perception. Furthermore, body image showed a significant positive correlation with intuitive eating (r = 0.318, p < 0.001). Significant mediating effects of body image were identified concerning intuitive eating and body weight perception in the right weight (95% bootstrap CI = 0.007, 0.040) and overweight groups (95% bootstrap CI = -0.048, -0.009). The indirect effects of body image constituted 12.19% and 15.33% of the total effects of intuitive eating in these two groups. Conclusion Although the indirect effects were not substantial, these outcomes shed light on the partial understanding of how body weight perception impacted intuitive eating via body image. Importantly, our findings emphasized the significance of body image and body weight perception, offering a novel insight for prospective interventions targeting undergraduate students.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In the information age, the use of the internet and multimedia tools has large effects on the life of middle school students. Improper use of the internet may result in internet addiction (IA). Thus, actively exploring the factors influencing adolescent and the mechanism of addiction as well as promoting adolescent physical and mental health and academic development are priorities that families, schools, and society urgently need to address. AIM To explore the effect of childhood trauma on adolescent IA and to consider the roles of loneliness and negative coping styles. METHODS A total of 11310 students from six junior high schools in Henan, China, completed the child trauma questionnaire, IA test, loneliness scale, and simple coping style questionnaire. In addition, data were collected from 1044 adolescents with childhood trauma for analysis with IBM SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 28.0; we examined the relationships among childhood trauma, IA, loneliness, and negative coping styles. RESULTS We found that childhood trauma not only directly affected adolescents' IA but also affected IA through loneliness and negative coping styles. CONCLUSION Therefore, this study has theoretical implications regarding adolescent mental health and may inform interventions for IA.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Physical education is pivotal in our country's education reform. Urban schools have notably enhanced the intensity of physical education in recent years. However, the effects of physical education on students' anxiety, depression, and self-esteem levels, as well as their interrelations, remain unexplored. AIM To analyze the influence of physical education on students' anxiety, depression, and self-esteem. METHODS This study employed a cross-sectional design. A stratified cluster sampling method was used to select 478 first-year university students. Self-administered questionnaires were used to investigate the physical education status and basic information of college students. We used the Physical Activity Rank Scale-3 (PARS-3), Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), and Self-Esteem Scale (SES) to assess the level of exercise, anxiety, depression, and self-esteem. Multiple Logistic regression was used to analyze the factors influencing anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. The receiver operating characteristic curve and area under the curve (AUC) were used to evaluate the predictive ability of PARS-3 scores for anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. Spearman's correlation was used to analyze the correlations among the PARS-3, SAS, SDS, and SES. RESULTS Compared with the domestic norms, SAS and SDS scores were higher, and SES scores were lower (P < 0.05). Among the participants, 210 (43.93%) had PARS-3 scores below 20, 94 (19.67%) had scores of 20-42, and 174 (36.40%) had scores above 42. After adjusting for daily sleep time, gender, being an only child, major, father's educational background, mother's educational background, and family residence, PARS-3 scores were independent influencing factors for anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem (P < 0.05). The AUC of PARS-3 scores predicting anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem were 0.805 (0.760-0.849), 0.799 (0.755-0.843), and 0.831 (0.788-0.874), respectively. The sensitivities were 0.799, 0.801, and 0.748, and the specificities were 0.743, 0.716, and 0.814, respectively. PARS-3 was negatively correlated with SAS and SDS scores (r = -0.566, -0.621, both P < 0.001) and positively correlated with SES scores (r = -0.621, P < 0.001). SES scores were negatively correlated with SAS and SDS scores (r = -0.508, r = -0.518, both P < 0.001). CONCLUSION The amount of physical activity is negatively correlated with anxiety and depression degree and positively correlated with self-esteem degree.

Abstract
The recent literature highlights the need to explore phubbing, a worrying growing phenomenon, and the potential associated factors and outcomes. Thus, the present study focused on perceived phubbing and the potential associations with life satisfaction and psychological distress. Additionally, this study examined the mediating role of loneliness. The cross-sectional, web-based study involved 720 Romanian adults aged 18 to 77 (M = 24.12, SD = 8.80, 74% females) who completed self-reported scales measuring perceived phubbing, and life satisfaction. Results suggested positive associations between perceived phubbing, loneliness, and psychological distress. A significant negative association was also found between loneliness and life satisfaction. Further analyses suggested that loneliness partially mediated the link between perceived phubbing and life satisfaction and between perceived phubbing and psychological distress. The study highlights the significant role of perceived phubbing when discussing psychological distress and life satisfaction, underlining the need to address further the (mis)use of digital devices (e.g., smartphones) within interpersonal relationships, as well as the need to understand better the outcomes of such behaviors to shape effective interventions in this regard.

Abstract
(1) Background: Bullying victimization has been associated with several behavioral outcomes, particularly loneliness. Similarly, an increase in social network use has been identified in recent years, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, and has been shown to be associated with bullying and loneliness. Investigating the mediating factors of loneliness among bullied adolescents is useful for taking preventive measures in the Lebanese population. This study aims to examine the association between bullying victimization and loneliness among Lebanese adolescents while considering the indirect effect of problematic social network use. (2) Methods: We carried out a cross-sectional study, between January and April 2022, that enrolled 379 adolescent Lebanese students (64.9% females, mean age 16.07 ± 1.19 years) who were current residents of Lebanon (15 to 18 years), and were from the five governorates of Lebanon (Beirut, Mount Lebanon, North, South and Bekaa). The snowball method was applied to select our sample; an electronic copy of the questionnaire was created using the Google Forms software and an online strategy was designed to collect the data. (3) Results: Negative social comparison and addictive consequences of problematic use of social network mediated the association between bullying victimization and loneliness. Higher bullying victimization was significantly associated with higher negative social comparison and addictive consequences of problematic use of social network, which in turn were significantly associated with more loneliness. Finally, higher bullying victimization was directly significantly associated with more loneliness. (4) Conclusions: Studying the mediating factors of loneliness in bullied adolescents can improve our understanding of this topic, allowing us to propose new interventions to prevent psychological problems in adolescents. Future studies are needed to further clarify the physiological processes that underlie the associations between social triggers and loneliness during adolescence.

Abstract
With the prevalence of the internet, there is growing attention on the impacts of social networking sites use among adolescents. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships between different types of online activities (i.e., information searching, social interaction and entertainment) and self-esteem. It examined whether the relationships vary across gender. One hundred and ninety-three students (57.5% males; Mage = 13.33, SDage = 1.58) participated in the present study. Unexpectedly, the associations between online activities and self-esteem were not significant (p > 0.05). Path analysis showed gender moderated the relationships between social interaction activities and self-esteem. Females reported higher levels of engagement in social interaction activities and self-esteem than their male counterparts. The present study shows the importance of assessing different types of online activities as a predictor for understanding the impact of social media use among adolescents.

Abstract
Background: This randomized trial’s objective was to investigate the impact of social network content on the perception of smiles among specialists, doctors, students of dental medicine, and laypeople. Method: A sample of 360 respondents was shown 7 digitally altered photographs of smiles (85.63% female, 14.37% male). Dental specialists, dentists, dental students (first to third year and fourth to sixth year), and laypeople made up the sample. Respondents were asked to rank the images on a scale of 1 to 10, starting with the least appealing and moving up to the most attractive, using a Google Form. Respondents were divided into experimental and control groups at the end of the following month by random selection. The experimental group followed an Instagram profile posting two images of beautiful smiles for seven days, while the control group received no intervention at all. Both groups then completed the same questionnaire again. The comparison of esthetic scores between the experimental and control group was performed using the Mann–Whitney U-test and the difference in test responses between the starting point of the measurement and after exposure to perfect content on social media within individual groups was tested with the Wilcoxon paired-samples test. When comparing the absolute difference of scores, the Mann–Whitney U-test and the Kruskal–Wallis test were used. Results: Respondents in the experimental group rated the rounded embrasures of the incisors with lower esthetic scores compared to the control group that was not exposed to images on the Instagram social network. In those exposed to Instagram (experimental group), laypeople showed significantly greater satisfaction with their own smile after the exposure to Instagram, whereas no such difference was present in the control group. Conclusions: The content of social networks potentially has an influence on smile perception, most visible in the perception of incisal embrasures and self-perception of smile.
