Abstract
Media psychological fatigue, a common negative behavior among employees using online office applications (apps), has a significant impact on job satisfaction and performance. This study explores the influence of online office app use on job performance, differentiating between work-related and non-work-related contexts, based on the Uses and Gratifications Theory and the Stimulus-Organism-Response Theory. Data were collected from 418 employees in 11 enterprises in mainland China through random sampling. Harman's single-factor test was utilized to evaluate common method bias. Regression analysis, bootstrap tests, and structural equation modeling (SEM) were used to analyze variable relationships and mediating effects. The results showed that work-related online office app use did not cause psychological fatigue or satisfaction, non-work-related app use enhanced job performance by improving job satisfaction, media psychological fatigue negatively affected job satisfaction and performance, psychological fatigue partially mediated the relationship between app use and job performance, and job satisfaction was essential for alleviating work-related fatigue and facilitating non-work-related use. This research emphasizes the dual influence of online office app use on employee perceptions and performance. Enterprises should focus on work-related app functions and foster a positive social environment with entertainment elements to encourage non-work-related use, reducing psychological fatigue and enhancing job satisfaction and performance.

Abstract
to assess the job satisfaction level, stressors and working conditions of nursing professionals in some Latin American countries during the COVID-19 pandemic. this is a cross-sectional study of nursing professionals working in hospital, primary care, educational, governmental, research, commercial and independent institutions. An online survey was carried out to assess satisfaction with the Font-Roja instrument, sociodemographic characteristics, stress factors and working conditions. a total of 1,215 workers from Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Ecuador and Panama participated. The overall satisfaction score was 81.5 (SD:11.6). There was less satisfaction in the dimensions of tension, pressure, extrinsic characteristics and monotony. Increased stress at work (84.3%), workload (81.3%), fear of SARS-CoV-2 (67.7%), uncertainty at work (51.2%) and salary reduction (20.4%) were reported. The work factors related to satisfaction were, as follows: job recommendation, mixed working hours, care work, increased stress, increased workload, salary reduction and purchase of protective equipment. the aspects of job satisfaction most affected during the pandemic were pressure, tension, lack of independence and monotony at work; this satisfaction was reduced due to increased stress and workload, the acquisition of personal protective equipment and a reduction in salary.

Abstract
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the analysis of patient data has become a cornerstone for developing effective public health strategies. This study leverages a dataset comprising over 10,000 anonymized patient records from various leading medical institutions to predict COVID-19 patient age groups using a suite of statistical and machine learning techniques. Initially, extensive statistical tests including ANOVA and t-tests were utilized to assess relationships among demographic and symptomatic variables. The study then employed machine learning models such as Decision Tree, Naïve Bayes, KNN, Gradient Boosted Trees, Support Vector Machine, and Random Forest, with rigorous data preprocessing to enhance model accuracy. Further improvements were sought through ensemble methods; bagging, boosting, and stacking. Our findings indicate strong associations between key symptoms and patient age groups, with ensemble methods significantly enhancing model accuracy. Specifically, stacking applied with random forest as a meta leaner exhibited the highest accuracy (0.7054). In addition, the implementation of stacking techniques notably improved the performance of K-Nearest Neighbors (from 0.529 to 0.63) and Naïve Bayes (from 0.554 to 0.622) and demonstrated the most successful prediction method. The study aimed to understand the number of symptoms identified in COVID-19 patients and their association with different age groups. The results can assist doctors and higher authorities in improving treatment strategies. Additionally, several decision-making techniques can be applied during pandemic, tailored to specific age groups, such as resource allocation, medicine availability, vaccine development, and treatment strategies. The integration of these predictive models into clinical settings could support real-time public health responses and targeted intervention strategies.

Abstract
AIM Addressing the global nursing shortage is crucial to both national and international public health efforts. This paper aims to highlight the importance of resilience and its impact on primary care nurses' job satisfaction and intentions to quit, especially in the face of current challenges. METHODS The study utilized a mixed methods design involving nurses in intensive care units of a university hospital in Austria. In the first phase of data collection, qualitative focus group interviews were conducted to gather insights on the current challenges and stressors faced by nursing professionals. Building on relevant literature, a quantitative survey was then administered to all nurses, using scales measuring resilience, intention to quit, and job satisfaction in order to examine the relationships between these variables. In addition, a data structuring of the resilience scale by factors was achieved with the help of confirmatory factor analysis. Subsequently, the correlations of the resilience factors with the other variables were examined by means of an additional correlation, regression and mediation analysis. RESULTS The results showed negative correlations with regard to resilience and intention to quit as well as with regard to job satisfaction and intention to quit. In contrast, job satisfaction and resilience correlated significantly positively with each other. The negative correlation between resilience and the intention to quit was confirmed, but only for the factors "goal focus" and "pride and commitment". A closer examination of the two factors and their associated items revealed a connection to both professional identity and organizational identity. CONCLUSION This study provides valuable insights for health care leaders and health care decision makers to effectively lead, develop, and thereby retain primary care nurses. The authors argue that improving resilience and strengthening organizational identity are important influencing factors in increasing job satisfaction and reducing nurses' intention to quit.

Abstract
To examine the association between demographic characteristics (i.e., gender, race, age, and years of experience), burnout, and nurses' intent to leave their jobs during the first wave of COVID-19 in New Jersey. COVID-19 has exacerbated burnout and intent to leave among acute care nurses. Nonetheless, little is known about demographic factors contributing to nurses' desire to leave their jobs. A cross-sectional survey of actively licensed registered nurses who provided direct patient care in an acute care hospital in New Jersey during COVID-19. Among 2760 nurses, those who reported burnout were 4.78 times more likely to report intent to leave their job within 1 year as compared to nurses who did not report burnout. Black RNs were 2.06 times more likely to report intent to leave as compared to White RNs. Older nurses (aged 40-49) were 36% less likely to report intent to leave as compared to younger nurses (aged 21-29). RNs with 30 years of experience or more were 58% less likely to report intent to leave as compared to RNs with less than 5 years of experience. In addition, Black RNs with 6-12 years of experience were 2.07 times more likely to report intent to leave as compared to White RNs with less than 5 years of experience. Nurses' intent to leave during the first wave of the pandemic was influenced by burnout, race, age, and years of experience. Based on the results of the current study, Black nurses were more likely to report intent to leave their job within 1 year as compared to White RNs. Nurses' intention to leave is one of the most important global issues facing the healthcare system. Findings of the current study demonstrate that burnout, race, age, and years of experience are significant predictors of nurses' intent to leave their jobs. Therefore, organizations should prioritize strategies to reduce burnout and create diverse and inclusive work environments.

Abstract
Despite research supporting the efficacy of weekly outpatient videoconferencing-based cognitive behavioral therapy (VCBT), limited evidence exists about the benefits of leveraging VCBT for brief intensive formats. We examined the effectiveness of an intensive outpatient VCBT targeting pediatric anxiety and OCD. Quasi-experimental design was used to compare outcomes of intensive, in-person, group-based cognitive-behavioral therapy with medication management and caregiver guidance pre-pandemic, to a similar VCBT peri-pandemic (n = 130). Pretreatment and posttreatment assessments included patient- and caregiver-report of anxiety and functional impairment. Analyses of covariance were conducted, examining changes in anxiety and impairment between treatment groups, controlling for admission levels. No significant differences in posttreatment anxiety or impairment were observed between conditions. This study illustrates that intensive, group-based treatment for pediatric anxiety and OCD using VCBT is associated with comparable reductions in anxiety and impairment. It marks a crucial step toward providing broader access to quality care for youth in need.

Abstract
Nurses play key roles in dealing with pandemics yet are often conceived solely as "technical" experts without political agency. This study conducts the first global comparative analysis of COVID-19-related protests of nurses and other frontline health workers, with a focus on the first 18 months of the pandemic. We draw on quantitative and qualitative data on nurses' protests and protest drivers. Results show that such protests were widespread: We identify 3515 events in 90 countries, with several regional hotspots existing. The most common reasons for protests were poor working conditions and insufficient workplace safety, followed by wider social issues like poverty and racism. For most of the time period under consideration, protests demanding access to vaccinations (a rarely explored phenomenon) were more widespread than anti-vaccination events. Protest frequency was highest in countries with high COVID-19-related mortality rates, high levels of human development, and strong social movements at the onset of the pandemic. Recognising the key role of nurses as political actors would help to improve health policies and to maintain a capable healthcare workforce, particularly during acute crises like pandemics.

Abstract
PURPOSE The COVID-19 pandemic has caused great strain on older adults with cancer and their healthcare providers. This study explored healthcare providers' reported changes in cancer care, clinical barriers to care, patient questions, and the overall experiences of caring for older adults with cancer during the COVID-19 crisis. METHODS The Advocacy Committee of the Cancer and Aging Research Group and the Association of Community Cancer Centers developed a survey for healthcare providers of adults with cancer, inquiring about their experiences during the pandemic. Responses from the survey's four open-ended items were analyzed by four independent coders for identification of common themes using deductive and inductive methods. RESULTS Participants (n = 137) represented a variety of demographic and clinical experiences. Six overall themes emerged, including (1) telehealth use, (2) concerns for patient mental health, (3) patient physical and social isolation, (4) patient fear of contracting COVID-19, (5) continued disruptions to cancer care, and (6) patients seeking guidance, particularly regarding COVID-19 vaccination. Questions fielded by providers focused on the COVID-19 vaccination's safety and efficacy during older adults' cancer treatment. CONCLUSIONS Additional resources (e.g., technology support, established care guidelines, and sufficient staffing) are needed to support older adults with cancer and healthcare providers during the pandemic. Future research should explore universally effective in-person and virtual treatment strategies for older adults with cancer. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Persistence of telehealth barriers, particularly a lack of infrastructure to support telehealth visits, social isolation, and restrictive visitor policies as a result of COVID-19, negatively impacted the mental health of older adults with cancer.

Abstract
Little is known about the status of occupational well-being among the Chinese medical workers after the implementation of Normalized Epidemic Prevention and Control strategy as most studies are performed during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study was designed to investigate the occupational well-being among the medical workers in our city in the COVID-19 after the release of Normalized Epidemic Prevention and Control Strategy since May 7, 2020 in mainland China. We included the medical workers involved in the front-line of COVID-19 that were randomly selected from 7 hospitals in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China. The occupational well-being among medical workers was evaluated using the modified occupational well-being scales and the symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90) scale. Then Logistic regression analysis was given to identify the risk factors that may affect the occupational well-being among the medical workers. Our data showed that hospital type (p < 0.01), hospital grade (p < 0.01), marital status (p < 0.01) and monthly income (p < 0.01) were independent risk factors for the occupational well-being among the medical workers. Obsessive-compulsive disorder, somatization, phobic anxiety, depression and interpersonal sensitivity were risk factors for poor occupational well-being. Therefore, attention should be given to the occupational well-being of the medical workers. Meanwhile, appropriate measurements are necessary to improve their working quality.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although hospital leaders were already at a high risk for psychological and physical illnesses long before the pandemic, the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated this situation. PURPOSE Recognizing the crucial role of leaders in organizational crises and building on the conservation of resources theory, our study examines how hospital leaders cope with difficulties that endure over an extended period of time. By using the COVID-19 pandemic as an example for prolonged adversity in hospitals, we provide insight into the different responses to a given adversity and further expand knowledge about the role of time in crisis and for resilience. METHODOLOGY/APPROACH Qualitative expert interviews were conducted with 44 hospital leaders in Austria between December 2020 and November 2021. For data analysis, we used a hybrid approach, consisting of both deductive and inductive coding. RESULTS By extending Bardoel and Drago's (2021) conceptual approach on acceptance and strategic resilience, our empirical study shows that during enduring adversity, hospital leaders use both types of resilience. The choice between them and their suitability depends on both the duration of exposure and severity of the adversity. CONCLUSION Our findings further show that when immediately confronted with adversity, leaders tend to rely on resource-preserving acceptance resilience, whereas when dealing with enduring adversity, leaders are more likely to use resilience-enhancing strategic resilience. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS Even though leaders rely on both types of resilience, our findings also imply that if opportunities to build strategic resilience are limited, higher burnout and turnover rates might be the consequence.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Unfinished nursing care is becoming increasingly more of a concern in worldwide healthcare settings. Given their negative outcomes, it is crucial to continuously assess those nursing interventions that are commonly postponed or missed, as well as the underlying reasons and consequences. The worldwide COVID-19 pandemic has made it difficult for health facilities to maintain their sustainability and continuity of care, which has also influenced the unfinished nursing care phenomenon. However, no summary of the studies conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic was produced up to now. The main aim of this study was to systematically review the occurrence of, reasons for, and consequences of unfinished nursing care among patients in healthcare settings during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS Systematic review registered in PROSPERO (CRD42023422871). The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses statement guideline and the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal tool for cross-sectional studies were used. MEDLINE-PubMed, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and Scopus were searched from March 2020 up to May 2023, using keywords established in the field as missed care, unfinished nursing care, or implicit rationing. RESULTS Twenty-five studies conducted mainly in European and Asiatic countries were included and assessed as possessing good methodological quality. The following tools were used: the MISSCARE Survey (= 14); the Basel Extent of Rationing of Nursing Care (= 1), also in its revised form (= 2) and regarding nursing homes (= 2); the Perceived Implicit Rationing of Nursing Care (= 4); the Intensive Care Unit-Omitted Nursing Care (= 1); and the Unfinished Nursing Care Survey (= 1). The order of unfinished nursing care interventions that emerged across studies for some countries is substantially in line with pre-pandemic data (e.g., oral care, ambulation). However, some interesting variations emerged at the country and inter-country levels. Conversely, labour resources and reasons close to the emotional state and well-being of nurses were mentioned homogeneously as most affecting unfinished nursing care during the pandemic. None of the studies investigated the consequences of unfinished nursing care. CONCLUSIONS Two continents led the research in this field during the pandemic: Europe, where this research was already well established, and Asia, where this research is substantially new. While unfinished care occurrence seems to be based on pre-established patterns across Europe (e.g., regarding fundamentals needs), new patterns emerged across Asiatic countries. Among the reasons, homogeneity in the findings emerged all in line with those documented in the pre-pandemic era.

Abstract
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has placed unparalleled pressure on many countries' healthcare systems, impacting the delivery of health and nursing care services. Despite the growing number of missed care studies during the pandemic, a broader perspective is essential when designing theory-driven strategies to improve nursing care delivery. This review aimed to synthesize evidence of missed nursing care during the COVID-19 pandemic in acute care settings through a systematic review and narrative synthesis. An electronic search of articles published since the emergence of the pandemic was conducted using 5 databases (Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, and PsycINFO). A total of 470 articles were identified during the initial search, and 10 articles were included in the review. The sample sizes of the studies ranged from 37 to 536 nurses. Results of the content analysis were grouped into 5 categories: (1) prevalence of missed care, (2) frequency of missed care, (3) reasons for missed care, (4) nurses' and organizational variables contributing to missed care, and (5) work environment elements contributing to missed care. The review's findings revealed a shift in the nature of missed nursing care during the pandemic, with an emphasis on nursing care tasks vital for the recovery of patients with COVID-19. Despite the unique circumstances brought about by the pandemic, an inadequate nursing workforce continued to be identified as the primary reason for missed care, consistent with the pre-pandemic period.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, pre-hospital emergency healthcare workers (PHEHW) assumed critical responsibilities in controlling and preventing the spread of the virus. OBJECTIVE This descriptive study aimed to explore the emotional burnout, job satisfaction, and intention to leave among PHEHW during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS The study was conducted with 401 emergency medical technicians and paramedics. The Sociodemographic Data Form, the Emotional Burnout Scale, the Job Satisfaction Scale, the Intention to Leave the Profession Scale were used to collect data. The findings were assessed with a significance level set at p < 0.05 and a 95% confidence interval. RESULTS The participants demonstrated moderate scores in emotional burnout, job satisfaction, and intention to leave the profession. The analysis revealed a negative correlation, indicating that as emotional burnout increased, job satisfaction decreased, and the intention to leave the profession heightened. Notably, the participants who had 6-9 years of service, lacked knowledge about COVID-19, had no COVID-19 training, underwent COVID-19 testing, and experienced the loss of a healthcare worker due to COVID-19 exhibited higher levels of burnout. Furthermore, those who had 6-9 years of service, lacked knowledge about COVID-19, had no COVID-19 training, and lost a healthcare worker due to COVID-19 reported lower levels of job satisfaction. Additionally, participants who had 6-9 years of service, lacked knowledge about COVID-19, had no COVID-19 training, and experienced the loss of a healthcare worker due to COVID-19 displayed a greater intention to leave the profession. CONCLUSIONS It is important to implement improvement initiatives that will increase the motivation and job satisfaction of PHEHW. These include the regulation of working hours and shifts, augmenting staff numbers, enhancing working conditions, improving salaries, and implementing strategies aimed at fostering motivation and job satisfaction.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a major shift in the delivery of healthcare services with the adoption of care modalities to address the diverse needs of patients. Besides, nurses, the largest profession in the healthcare sector, were imposed with challenges caused by the pandemic that influenced their intention to leave their profession. The aim of the study was to examine the influence of mode of healthcare delivery on nurses' intention to quit job due to lack of satisfaction during the pandemic in Canada. This cross-sectional study utilized data from the Health Care Workers' Experiences During the Pandemic (SHCWEP) survey, conducted by Statistics Canada, that targeted healthcare workers aged 18 and over who resided in the ten provinces of Canada during the COVID-19 pandemic. The main outcome of the study was nurses' intention to quit within two years due to lack of job satisfaction. The mode of healthcare delivery was categorized into; in-person, online, or blended. Multivariable logistic regression was performed to examine the association between mode of healthcare delivery and intention to quit job after adjusting for sociodemographic, job-, and health-related factors. Analysis for the present study was restricted to 3,430 nurses, weighted to represent 353,980 Canadian nurses. Intention to quit job, within the next two years, due to lack of satisfaction was reported by 16.4% of the nurses. Results showed that when compared to participants who provided in-person healthcare services, those who delivered online or blended healthcare services were at decreased odds of intention to quit their job due to lack of job satisfaction (OR = 0.47, 95% CI: 0.43-0.50 and OR = 0.64, 95% CI: 0.61-0.67, respectively). Findings from this study can inform interventions and policy reforms to address nurses' needs and provide organizational support to enhance their retention and improve patient care during times of crisis.

Abstract
Population migration is a critical component of large-scale spatiotemporal models of infectious disease transmission. Identifying the most influential spreaders in networks is vital to controlling and understanding the spreading process of infectious diseases. We used Baidu Migration data for the whole year of 2021 to build mobility networks. The nodes of the network represent cities, and the edges represent the population flow between cities. By applying the k-shell decomposition and the Louvain algorithm, we could get the k-shell values for each city and community partition. Then, we identified the most efficient nodes or pathways in a complex network by generating random networks. Furthermore, we analyzed the eigenvalue of the migration matrix to find the nodes that have the most impact on the network. We also found the consistency between k-shell value and eigenvalue through Kendall's τ test. The main result is that in Spring Festival and National Day, the network is at higher risk of an infectious disease outbreak and the Yangtze River Delta is at the highest risk of an epidemic all year around. Shanghai is the most significant node in both k-shell value and eigenvalue analysis. The spatiotemporal property of the network should be taken into account to model the transmission of infectious diseases more accurately.

Abstract
Importance Communication failures in perioperative areas are common and have negative outcomes for both patients and clinicians. Names and roles of teammates are difficult to remember or discern contributing to suboptimal communication, yet the utility of labeled surgical caps with names and roles for enhancing perceived teamwork and connection is not well studied. Objective To evaluate the use of labeled surgical caps in name use and role recognition, as well as teamwork and connection, among interprofessional perioperative teammates. Design, Setting, and Participants In this quality improvement study, caps labeled with names and roles were distributed to 967 interprofessional perioperative clinicians, along with preimplementation and 6-month postimplementation surveys. Conducted between July 8, 2021, and June 25, 2022, at a single large, academic, quaternary health care center in the US, the study comprised surgeons, anesthesiologists, trainees, and all interprofessional hospital staff who work in adult general surgery perioperative areas. Intervention Labeled surgical caps were offered cost-free, although not mandatory, to each interested clinician. Main Outcome and Measure Quantitative survey of self-reported frequency for name use and role recognition as well as postimplementation sense of teamwork and connection. The surveys also elicited free response comments. Results Of the 1483 eligible perioperative clinicians, 967 (65%; 387 physicians and 580 nonphysician staff; 58% female) completed preimplementation surveys and received labeled caps, and 243 of these individuals (51% of physicians and 8% of staff) completed postimplementation surveys. Pre-post results were limited to physicians, due to the low postsurvey staff response rate. The odds of participants reporting that they were often called by their name increased after receiving a labeled cap (adjusted odds ratio [AOR], 13.37; 95% CI, 8.18-21.86). On postsurveys, participants reported that caps with names and roles substantially improved teamwork (80%) and connection (79%) with teammates. Participants who reported an increased frequency of being called by their name had higher odds for reporting improved teamwork (AOR, 3.46; 95% CI, 1.91-6.26) and connection with teammates (AOR, 3.21; 95% CI, 1.76-5.84). Free response comments supported the quantitative data that labeled caps facilitated knowing teammates' names and roles and fostered a climate of wellness, teamwork, inclusion, and patient safety. Conclusions and Relevance The findings of this quality improvement study performed with interprofessional teammates suggest that organizationally sponsored labeled surgical caps was associated with improved teamwork, indicated by increased name use and role recognition in perioperative areas.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The high rate of nurses turnover and nursing staff shortage have been an ongoing concern issue and a challenge for global health systems. To explore the turnover intention among operating theatre nurses, and to test the hypothetical model for estimating the effects of stress overload and fatigue between social support, mental health and turnover intention. DESIGN a multi-center and cross-sectional online survey. METHODS This study was conducted from October 2020 to March 2021 comprised 1060 operating theatre nurses from 76 Chinese hospitals. The descriptive analysis, independent sample t test and one-way analysis of variance and Spearman correlation analysis were used to explore the relationships among variables by the SPSS software, and stepwise multiple linear regression analysis was utilized to identify influencing factors of turnover intention and its dimensions among operating theatre nurses. A structural equation model was analyzed by the AMOS software. RESULTS Social support, mental health, stress overload and fatigue were important predictors of turnover intention among operating theatre nurses. Besides, stress overload positively affected fatigue, mental health and turnover intention; fatigue negatively affected social support, however, fatigue positively affected mental health; social support negatively affected mental health and turnover intention; mental health positively affected turnover intention. Moreover, social support, mental health mediated between stress overload, fatigue and turnover intention among operating theatre nurses. CONCLUSION Social support, mental health mediated between stress overload, fatigue and turnover intention among operating theatre nurses.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Radiographers, like many health professionals, are in a high-risk group for succumbing to workplace demands beyond their ability to cope, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in occupational stress. Occupational stress has been linked to poor organisational commitment. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to evaluate radiographers' organisational commitment and occupational stress after the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS A mixed method approach entailed data collected from purposively sampled Australian radiographers working during the first COVID-19 wave. The quantitative phase used an online commitment questionnaire, and 21 semi-structured individual virtual interviews were conducted in the qualitative phase. Data interpretation and analysis used statistical and thematic approaches. RESULTS The quantitative data revealed a higher level of continuance than affective and normative commitment. Whereas the qualitative findings showed participants high levels of affective commitment to their occupation and, together with leadership support, working collectively towards a positive outcome. CONCLUSION Despite the variety of occupational stressors that arose during the COVID-19 crisis, Australian radiographers enjoy a high level of occupational and organisational commitment. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Radiographers' organisational commitment represents their emotional and psychological attachment to their workplace, and radiographers experiencing occupational stress represent high levels of psychosomatic distress and burnout. Therefore, considering radiographers' organisational commitment and occupational stress is essential in the delivery of services, quality of patient care and radiographers well-being.

Abstract
RATIONALE Enhancing health system effectiveness, efficiency, and appropriateness is a management priority in most world countries. Scholars and practitioners have focused on physician engagement to facilitate such outcomes. OBJECTIVES Our research was intended to: 1) unravel the definition of physician engagement; 2) understand the factors that promote or impede it; 3) shed light on the implications of physician engagement on organizational performance, quality, and safety; and 4) discuss the tools to measure physician engagement. METHOD A scoping review was undertaken. Items were collected through electronic databases search and snowball technique. The PRISMA extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) statement and checklist was followed to enhance the study replicability. RESULTS The search yielded 16,062 records. After an initial screening, 300 were selected for potential inclusion in this literature review. After removing duplicates and records not meeting the inclusion criteria, full-text analysis of 261 records was performed, yielding a total of 174 records. DISCUSSION Agreement on the conceptualization of physician engagement is thin; furthermore, scholars disagree on the techniques and approaches used to assess its implementation and implications. Proposals have been made to overcome the barriers to its adoption, but empirical evidence about implementing physician engagement is still scarce. CONCLUSIONS Our scoping review highlights the limitations of the extant literature about physician engagement. Physician engagement is a relatively ill-defined concept: developing an evidence base for its actual implementation is necessitated to provide reliable guidance on how the governance of health care organizations could be improved. Although we did not assess the quality or the robustness of current empirical research, our findings call for further research to: 1) identify potential drivers of physician engagement, 2) develop dependable assessment tools providing health care organizations with guidance on how to foster physician engagement, and 3) evaluate engagement's actual impact on health care organizations' performance.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has significantly affected healthcare workers' mental health worldwide, leading to the intention to resign. Japanese medical residents were no exception to the impact of COVID-19. This study aimed to illustrate how the COVID-19 pandemic affected medical residents' intention to resign. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted for Postgraduate Year (PGY)1-5 medical residents in Japan using an internet survey from March 11 to March 18, 2021. During this survey, the Japanese government declared a second-time state of emergency on January 7, 2021, and all restrictions were expanded nationwide until March 21, 2021. Medical residents were categorized into two groups (intention to resign group [IR] or no intention to resign group [NIR]) based on their intention to resign. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted to elucidate the risk factors for the intention to resign. RESULTS 354 medical residents were enrolled in this study (response rate: 40.2%). Ninety-two medical residents (26.0 %) were categorized into IR and 262 (74.0%) into NIR. According to multivariate logistic regression analysis, those who did not have mental support at their hospital had 2.95 times greater chance of intending to resign (Adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 2.95, 95% confidence interval (CI) [1.42-6.15]). Medical residents who engaged in patients with COVID-19 (AOR = 2.13, 95% Cl [1.08-4.18]) and PGY5 (AOR = 3.38, 95% Cl [1.51-7.56]) had a higher likelihood of intending to resign among residents in all PGY. CONCLUSIONS One in four medical residents intended to resign during the COVID-19 pandemic. Particularly, PGY5 and medical residents who treated patients with COVID-19 were found at risk of having the intention to resign. At times of crisis, such as the COVID-19 epidemic, establishing a mental health support system that targets high-risk residents is critical.

Abstract
Objective To describe the self-reported impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the lives of persons with spinal cord injury (SCI). Design Cross sectional study. Participants There were a total of 382 adult participants with traumatic SCI of at least one-year duration, all of whom were identified through a state-based surveillance registry in the Southeastern United States. The majority of participants were male (68.4%) and 72% were ambulatory. The average age at the time of the study was 57.7. Main Outcome Measures Participants completed a self-report assessment (SRA) online or by mail on the impact of COVID-19 on quality-of-life, ability to get daily necessities, and access to healthcare. Results Over half of the participants (58.9%) reported a negative impact of the pandemic in at least one of five life areas, with community participation being the primary area affected (51.4%). A small portion of individuals had trouble obtaining necessities, with approximately 12% reporting difficulties getting enough or quality food and 8.2% reporting difficulty getting prescription medications. However, 25% reported delaying healthcare procedures because of fear of catching COVID-19. Among those requiring personal assistance, 32% reported a decrease in quality of care and 51.9% relied more on family to assist with their care. Conclusions The COVID-19 pandemic had multiple negative impacts. Of particular importance were reduced access to healthcare and declines in quality and stability of attendant care, with greater reliance on family. Fear of contracting COVID-19 when accessing routine medical procedures needs to be addressed in future outbreaks.

Abstract
Introduction Exposure to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has caused many physical and psychological effects on front-line healthcare workers (HCWs). This study aimed to assess the relationship between the exposure risk to COVID-19 disease and burnout in prehospital emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Methods In this correlational study, 335 prehospital EMTs were selected by random sampling method from the 49 stations of emergency medical services in the northwest of Iran. Data were collected using a questionnaire developed by the world health organization for the risk assessment and management of exposure of health care workers to COVID-19. Moreover, Pines burnout measure was used for the assessment of participants' burnout. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 13. Results Results showed that 30.7 % of prehospital EMTs had a high burnout score against COVID-19 disease. The prehospital EMTs who had a high occupational exposure risk experienced a high risk of burnout (P=0.03). The results of the linear regression analysis showed that prehospital EMTs who had a low exposure risk of COVID-19 had a low burnout score (β=-9.30; P<0.001), and those who had less than 10 years of work experience showed less burnout (β=-10.54; P<0.001). Conclusion According to the results, the exposure risk to COVID-19 increases the prehospital EMT's burnout. As a result, reducing the exposure risk to COVID-19 by providing adequate access to personal protective equipment (PPE), development of training and following standards and protocols can be effective in controlling burnout in HCWs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on sick leave among healthcare workers (HCWs) in primary and specialist care and examine its causes. METHODS Using individual-level register data, we studied monthly proportions of sick leave (all-cause and not related to SARS-CoV-2 infection) from 2017 to February 2022 for all HCWs in primary (N=60 973) and specialist care (N=34 978) in Norway. First, we estimated the impact of the pandemic on sick leave, by comparing the sick leave rates during the pandemic to sick leave rates in 2017-2019. We then examined the impact of COVID-19-related workload on sick leave, by comparing HCWs working in healthcare facilities with different levels of COVID-19 patient loads. RESULTS HCWs had elevated monthly rates of all-cause sick leave during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2.8 (95% CI 2.67 to 2.9) and 2.2 (95% CI 2.07 to 2.35) percentage points in primary and specialist care. The corresponding increases for sick leave not related to SARS-CoV-2 infection were 1.2 (95% CI 1.29 to 1.05) and 0.7 (95% CI 0.52 to 0.78) percentage points. All-cause sick leave was higher in areas with high versus low COVID-19 workloads. However, after removing sick leave episodes due to SARS-CoV-2 infections, there was no difference. CONCLUSIONS There was a substantial increase in sick leave among HCWs during the pandemic. Our results suggest that the increase was due to HCWs becoming infected with SARS-CoV-2 and/or sector-wide effects, such as strict infection control measures. More differentiated countermeasures should, therefore, be evaluated to limit capacity constraints in healthcare provision.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Early interventions are needed to support the behavioral health of healthcare staff in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Stress First Aid (SFA) is a self-care and peer support model for reducing burnout and stress that is designed for use in high-stress occupations. METHODS We conducted a mixed-methods evaluation of an SFA program in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). This brief, multi-session, didactic program was adapted for hospital workgroups. Program attendees completed a survey assessing implementation outcomes, burnout, stress, mood, and SFA skills at the beginning (N = 246) and end (n = 94) of the SFA program and a subgroup (n = 11) completed qualitative feedback interviews. FINDINGS Program acceptability, appropriateness, and feasibility were rated highly. From pre- to post-SFA, the impact of the pandemic on stress and anxiety, as well as proficiency in supporting peers increased. Qualitative findings suggest the program provided a shared language to discuss stress, normalized stress reactions, met a need for stress management tools, and helped staff feel valued, empowered, connected with each other. Staff reported being more aware of their stress, but SFA was insufficient to address many of the systemic sources of burnout and stress. CONCLUSIONS AND APPLICATIONS TO PRACTICE While the SFA program was well received, the impact of brief programs is likely to be modest when implemented in the middle of an ongoing pandemic and when burnout arises from chiefly from systemic sources. Lessons learned during the program implementation that may guide future efforts are discussed.

Abstract
Background Nursing shortages are a persistent and concerning problem for the nursing workforce worldwide. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought additional stressors and workloads and has worsened nursing shortages. Aim To investigate interrelationships among emotional intelligence, job performance, and turnover intentions of nurses during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, and explore the mediating effect of job performance between emotional intelligence and turnover intentions. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted. In total, 673 nurses working in a medical centre hospital in northern Taiwan were recruited from November 2020 to April 2021. An anonymous questionnaire was used in this survey. Data were collected using a seven-item turnover intention scale, a 16-item emotional intelligence scale, a 24-item job performance scale, and demographic questions. A path analysis was performed. This study was based on STROBE guidelines. Findings Statistically significant correlations between turnover intentions and emotional intelligence (r = -0.10, p = 0.012), between turnover intentions and job performance (r = -0.13, p = 0.002), and between emotional intelligence and job performance (r = 0.54, p < 0.001) were detected. Model fit indices were adequate. Job performance had a significant indirect effect between emotional intelligence and turnover intentions (β = -0.16, p = 0.011). Discussion It was found that job performance was a mediator between emotional intelligence and turnover intentions during the pandemic. The study results support the need to continue to create healthy work environments. Conclusion These results can assist hospitals in developing specific evidence-based interventions such as showing appreciation and providing acknowledgments to reduce turnover of their nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract
PurposeJob market shifts, such as workforce mobility and aging societies, cause the exit of knowledgeable personnel from organizations. The ensuing knowledge loss (K-loss) has broad negative effects. This study analyzes the knowledge management literature on K-loss published from 2000 to 2021 and identifies fruitful directions for future research.Design/methodology/approachThe authors conduct a systematic literature review of 74 peer-reviewed articles published between 2000 and 2021. These articles were retrieved from ProQuest Central, Science Direct, EBSCOhost and Emerald databases. The analysis utilizes Jesson et al.’s (2011) six principles: field mapping, comprehensive search, quality assessment, data extraction, synthesis and write-up.FindingsThree sub-topics emerge from the systematic literature review: K-loss drivers, positive and negative impacts of K-loss and mitigation strategies. Over half of the literature addresses mitigation strategies and provides solutions for K-loss already in progress, rather than proposing preventive measures.Research limitations/implicationsThis study has limitations related to the time span covered. Moreover, it focuses on articles published in refereed journals. Therefore, important contributions from conference papers, books and professional reports were excluded.Originality/valueThis research comprehensively synthesizes the K-loss literature and proposes future avenues of research to address under-investigated areas and potentially lead to theoretical and empirical advancements in the field. This study also provides suggestions for improving managerial practices.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Healthcare workers were at high risk of psychological problems during the COVID-19 pandemic, but it remains not well-investigated in the post-pandemic era of COVID-19, with regular epidemic prevention and control embedded in burdened healthcare work. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and potential risk factors of the symptoms of depression and anxiety among healthcare workers at a tertiary hospital in Shenzhen. METHOD Our cross-sectional study was conducted among 21- to 64-year-old healthcare workers in December 2021 at a tertiary hospital in Shenzhen, using a simple random sampling strategy. A wide range of socio-demographic characteristics, individual information, and psychological condition of the subjects were extracted. Healthcare workers' psychological conditions were tested with the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression (CESD-10), General Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Work-Family Conflict Scale (WFCS), 10-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC-10), and 17-item of Maslach's Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS-17). Data were collected based on these questionnaires. Descriptive statistics were used to assess the difference between healthcare workers with depressive and anxiety symptoms among different groups. Hierarchical logistic regression analyses were conducted to investigate the association between focused variables and mental health outcomes. RESULTS A total of 245 healthcare workers were enrolled. The proportion of depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms and their co-occurrence were 34.7, 59.6, and 33.1%, respectively. Logistic regression showed that for the three outcomes, no history of receiving psychological help and self-rated good or higher health were protective factors, whereas more severe insomnia and job burnout were risk factors. Junior or lower job title and higher psychological resilience were related to a lower prevalence of depressive symptoms, while relatively longer working hours and larger work-family conflict were positively associated with the anxiety symptoms. Psychological resilience was inversely associated with the co-occurrence of depressive and anxiety symptoms. CONCLUSIONS Our study revealed a high proportion of psychological problems and proved that several similar factors which were significant during the pandemic were also associated with the symptoms of depression and anxiety among healthcare workers in the post-pandemic era of COVID-19. These results provide scientific evidence for psychological interventions for healthcare workers.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the sociodemographic characteristics that affect job stress and job satisfaction in 454 healthcare workers (physicians, nurses, midwives, technicians, and other healthcare personnel) working with COVID-19 patients in primary healthcare institutions in Turkey with a cross-sectional, web-based survey between 9 and 30 August 2021. The survey included a personal information form, a standard job stress scale, and the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire. The levels of job stress and job satisfaction did not differ between male and female respondents. Singles reported lower job stress and higher job satisfaction than the married respondents. Job stress did not differ between departments, but respondents on the front line who worked in a COVID-19 intensive care unit (ICU) (at any point and/or at the time of the study) or the emergency department reported lower job satisfaction than those working in other departments. Similarly, while stress did not differ by educational status, satisfaction of respondents with bachelor's or master's degree was lower than that of the rest. Our findings also suggest that working in a COVID-19 ICU and age are significant predictors of higher stress, whereas lower education, working in a COVID-19 ICU, and being married are good predictors of lower satisfaction. Further research should include other sociodemographic variables that may affect stress and satisfaction at work, and similar studies should follow up to see what was left in the wake of the pandemic.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aim to analyse the motives behind the commitment of nurses to their profession despite their intense job duties during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Design/methodology/approach
The empirical sample comprises of 35 semi-structured interviews with public sector hospital nurses in under-researched contexts of Egypt and Peru.
Findings
Three types of motives were found to play a critical role in nurses’ commitment to their profession despite the difficulties associated with extreme work conditions. These factors include cultural (religious values, governmental coercion), contextual (limited education, organisational support) and personal (good nurse identity, submissive nature) dimensions.
Originality/value
This paper is one of the pioneering works to link existing literature streams on career commitment, extreme jobs, extreme context and management under disruptions (particularly COVID-19) by analysing these aspects in the under-researched Peruvian and Egyptian contexts.

Abstract
Background Job satisfaction is one of the most important but least researched issues in the nursing profession in Bangladesh. This study aimed to investigate how workplace bullying and burnout are related to job satisfaction, as well as determine the factors that are associated with job satisfaction among Bangladeshi nurses. Methods Data were collected from Bangladeshi registered nurses between February 26, 2021, and July 10, 2021, in this cross-sectional study. Bullying, burnout, and job satisfaction were measured with the Short Negative Acts Questionnaire [S-NAQ], the Burnout Measure-Short version (BMS), and the Short Index of Job Satisfaction (SIJS-5), respectively. The correlations between age, bullying, burnout, and job satisfaction were assessed using a Pearson's correlation test. In order to investigate the adjusted association of demographic characteristics, occupational variables, bullying, and burnout with job satisfaction, multiple linear regression models were fitted. Results The study included 1,264 nurses (70.02% were female) with a mean age of 28.41 (±5.54) years. Job satisfaction was significantly negatively correlated with bullying and burnout (p < 0.001). According to the multiple linear regression models, the private-employed nurses had lower job satisfaction than the government-employed nurses (β = -0.901, CI: -1.640 to -0.162). Compared to the nurses in the Dhaka division, the nurses in the Chattogram division (β = 0.854, CI: 0.099 to 1.609) and other divisions (β = 0.993, CI: 0.273 to 1.713) had higher job satisfaction. Nurses without sufficient equipment to manage patients (β = -1.230, CI: -1.696 to -0.763), and nurses not paid on time (β = -1.475, CI: -2.221 to -0.729) were predicted to have significantly lower job satisfaction. Nurses' job satisfaction levels were decreased with higher levels of workplace bullying (β = -0.086, CI: -0.120 to -0.053), and burnout (β = -1.040, CI: -1.242 to -0.838). Conclusions Nurses' job satisfaction was correlated with workplace bullying and burnout. Moreover, insufficient professional support from the authorities predicted nurses' job satisfaction. Reducing the instances of bullying and burnout among nurses, as well as improving their working environment, are essential to increase job satisfaction. This is possible with the support of hospital management, policymakers, and government authorities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Healthcare workers, especially female employees, have historically been at an increased risk for occupational stress. During the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, many healthcare workers shifted to a telework model of care and started working from home (WFH). It is unclear how WFH impacted female healthcare employees' job satisfaction and stress levels. OBJECTIVE To further understand the impact of WFH on job satisfaction and stress among female healthcare employees. DESIGN An exploratory survey was utilized. Data was evaluated with generalized linear models and logistic regression. Data was collected March to April 2021, between the third and fourth COVID waves in the U.S.A. PARTICIPANTS All employees (approximately 1050) within the Veterans Affairs Central Western Massachusetts (VACWM) Healthcare System were invited to participate. We received 220 responses with most (78.6%) respondents identifying as female. MAIN MEASURES A Work-from-Home Satisfaction Scale and the Professional Quality of Life (ProQOL) Compassion Satisfaction and Burnout Scales. KEY RESULTS A majority of our participants (> 60%) strongly agreed that WFH during COVID-19 increased their work satisfaction and their ability to feel safe and reduced overall stress levels. Female respondents reported that WFH increased their ability to feel safe, reduced overall stress, and did not interfere with work efficiency when compared to male respondents. Overall, reported burnout was low, with only 32.7% of respondents scoring in the moderate category on the PROQOL burnout scale and no respondents scoring in the high burnout category. CONCLUSIONS Employees at this VA medical center who had the ability to work from home during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly younger women, reported less stress, less burnout, and more satisfaction, while maintaining work efficiency and team cohesion. Providing permission to WFH may decrease the added burden that female healthcare workers often experience as they strive to overcome gender gaps and inequalities in the workplace.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Life satisfaction is a determining factor for the improvement of mental and physical health. Health care workers are a vulnerable population to suffer alterations in the factors that affect life satisfaction. Determining the influence of these factors on quality of life is important for their proper management. OBJECTIVE To examine sociodemographic factors and healthy behaviors influencing life satisfaction in Peruvian professionals. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted with 506 health care workers, who had a mean age of 40.34 years (SD = 10.39). A sociodemographic questionnaire, sleep quality, physical activity, eating habits, and life satisfaction were used. A regression model was fitted with the life satisfaction variable as the dependent variable. RESULTS In multivariable analysis, age (β = -.938, P < .01) and perception of poor health status (β = -4.743, P < .001) were found to be associated with lower life satisfaction. On the other hand, higher university education level (β = 1.667, P < .001), absence of smoking (β = 3.202, P < .01), absence of depressive symptoms (β = 3.390, P < .001), interest in daily activities (β = 3.503, P < .05), good sleep quality (β = 1.027, P < .01), a high frequency of physical activity (β = 1.056, P < .01), and healthy eating are variables associated with higher life satisfaction. CONCLUSION Sociodemographic aspects such as age and the perception of poor health are associated with lower life satisfaction. On the other hand, healthy behaviors such as absence of smoking, absence of depressive symptoms, interest in daily activities, good quality of sleep, high frequency of physical activity, and a healthy diet were associated with higher life satisfaction.

Abstract
Introduction: As they are satisfied with life, nurses who demonstrate spiritual intelligence and well-being at work are tremendous assets to an organisation. This study aimed to determine the mediating effect of spiritual intelligence on the well-being and life satisfaction of nurses in the context of COVID-19. Methods: This research employed a cross-sectional study design. It was conducted in the Hail region of Saudi Arabia. The participants were government hospital nurses who were chosen using a multi-stage sampling method. A total of 1121 (75% response rate) nurses participated in the study. Data gathering was conducted from July to September 2022. Results: The life satisfaction level of the participants was deemed positive. Their well-being was better (10/15), and they rated high in spiritual intelligence (90/120). Life satisfaction had a strong association with well-being (r = 0.640, p < 0.001), but a weak association with spiritual intelligence (r = 0.391, p < 0.001). In comparison, well-being had a moderate association with spiritual intelligence (r = 0.551, p < 0.001). The direct effect of well-being on spiritual intelligence was positive and significant (β = 0.7817, p < 0.0001), and that of spiritual intelligence on life satisfaction was positive and significant (β = 0.1082, p = 0.0257). The direct effect of well-being on life satisfaction was also positive and significant (β = 1.5985, p < 0.0001). Conversely, well-being had an indirect impact on life satisfaction (β = 0.0846), and this effect was significant. Overall, the impact of well-being on life satisfaction was positive and significant (β = 1.6831, p < 0.0001). Conclusion: The nurses in this study were deemed satisfied, to have better well-being, and better spiritual intelligence. Life satisfaction has a strong association with well-being but a weak one with spiritual intelligence, while well-being has a moderate association with spiritual intelligence. Overall, spiritual intelligence was found to have a mediating effect on the relationship between well-being and life satisfaction. These findings suggest that an increase in spiritual growth can serve as the foundation for people to live better and more integrated lives.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Health care practitioners are at highest risk of COVID-19 disease. They experience an enormous overload of work and time pressures. The objective of the study was to assess nurses' life satisfaction. METHOD The study included professionally active nurses. The research method was an author's questionnaire and a standardized questionnaire, the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS). RESULTS The study group included 361 working nurses. The mean raw score and the sten score of the nurses' responses to the statements on the SWLS questionnaire were 21.0 (SD ± 5.6, range = 5-35) and 5.73 (SD ± 1.94, range = 1-10), respectively. It was shown that lower life satisfaction was experienced by nurses aged 51 to 60 (raw score: p = 0.003, sten score: p = 0.005), as well as nurses with secondary and undergraduate nursing education (raw score: p = 0.061, sten score: p = 0.043). Nurses who had a higher self-evaluation of the level of knowledge about SARS-CoV-2 infection experienced greater life satisfaction (raw score: p = 0.008, sten score: p = 0.022). CONCLUSIONS The majority of Polish nurses surveyed during the COVID-19 pandemic had a low or medium level of life satisfaction. The low response rate to the survey was most likely due to work overloads during the pandemic. Working in a public service profession, a nurse is exposed to stressful conditions related to protecting human health. Constant difficult and stressful situations and total fatigue experienced by nursing professionals can be the cause of a lack of motivation, occupational burnout, listlessness and mental and physical disease. Further research is necessary to assess the factors positively influencing the level of life satisfaction.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Since COVID-19 emerged, over 514 million COVID-19 cases and 6 million COVID-19-related deaths have been reported worldwide. Older persons receiving home health care often have co-morbidities that require advanced medical care, and are at risk of becoming severely ill or dying from COVID-19. In Sweden, over 10,000 COVID-19-related deaths have been reported among persons receiving municipal home health and social care. Home health care professionals have been working with the patients most at risk if infected. Most research has focused on the experiences of professionals in hospitals and assistant nurses in a home care setting. It is therefore valuable to study the experiences of the registered nurses and physicians working in home health care during the COVID-19 pandemic to learn lessons to inform future work. METHOD A thematic qualitative study design using a semi-structured interview guide. RESULTS The health care professionals experienced being forced into changed ways of working, which disrupted building and maintaining relationships with other health care professionals, and interrupted home health care. The health care professionals described being forced into digital and phone communication instead of in-person meetings, which negatively influenced the quality of care. The COVID-19 pandemic brought worry about illness for the health care professionals, including worrying about infecting patients, co-workers, and themselves, as well as worry about upholding the provision of health care because of increasing sick leave. The health care professionals felt powerless in the face of their patients' declining health. They also faced worry and guilt from the patients' next of kin. CONCLUSION Home health care professionals have faced the COVID-19 pandemic while working across organizational borders, caring for older patients who have been isolated during the pandemic and trying to prevent declining health and feelings of isolation. Due to the forced use of digital and phone communication instead of in-person visits, the home health care professionals experienced a reduction in the patients' quality of care and difficulty maintaining good communication between the professions.

Abstract
Background The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is now a worldwide public health emergency. As essential and central parts of the COVID-19 patient care team, nurses and nurse assistants are facing all kinds of challenges caused by the disease and the pandemic. Understanding these challenges and the way nurses and nurse assistants handle and cope with them provides important knowledge on how to improve management of future pandemics and endemic situations. Thus, the present study explored the challenges faced by nurses and nurse asssitants who cared for COVID-19 patients in hospitals and long term care facilities in Italy, Austria and Germany. Methods The study employed a qualitative design. Purposive sampling was used to select the participants consisting on nurses (n = 30), nurse coordinators (n = 6) and nurse assistants (n = 5) from hospitals (n = 32) and long-term care facilities (n = 9) in Austria, Germany, and Italy. Data were collected between August and December 2020 through semi-structured interviews. The collected data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Results The analysis of the data revealed three main themes with twelve sub-categories: (i) Knowledge, skills, and training (lack of knowledge; skills; organizational issues; training); (ii) resources and risk (lack of protective equipment; difficulties with protective equipment; risk and infection; feelings and isolation); (iii) coping strategies (humor; adaption; team effort; self-care; family and friends). Conclusion Nurses and nurse assistants who participated in this study faced many personal and professional challenges, and used different coping strategies to manage the situation. Some of these strategies can be applied to reduce these challenges and create better working conditions for nurses and nurse assistants in similar events. Further research, training of staff, and adaptation of institutional policies may help develop new strategies to face future pandemics successfully.

Abstract
Background Despite the increased demand for nurses worldwide, discussion of nurses’ duty to care is lacking. This study aimed to examine nurses’ duty to care during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and to identify the influencing factors. Methods This was a cross-sectional descriptive research study that used a structured online questionnaire. Registered Korean nurses answered a demographic questionnaire and the Nash Duty to Care Scale. Results Age and employment at tertiary hospitals increased nurses’ duty to care. Male sex, a highly educated status, and employment at tertiary hospitals increased the perceived risk. Male sex and employment at tertiary or general hospitals increased confidence in the employer, while a high level of education and a longer total clinical career decreased the same. Age and a higher monthly wage increased perceived obligation. Age, lack of religious beliefs, and clinical experience of 3–7 years increased professional preparedness. Conclusion Without enough nursing manpower, the disaster response system could prove to be inefficient. Considering that adequate nurse staffing is essential in disaster management, it is crucial to ensure that nurses have a will to provide care in the case of disaster. In the future, a more active discussion on nurses’ duty to care and additional research on factors that may hinder and facilitate the same are needed.

Abstract
Using a unique survey of more than 7,000 respondents conducted immediately after the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy, we investigate potential drivers of the job satisfaction of healthcare workers. Relying on a representative sample of Italian physicians and nurses, we show that, in addition to personal characteristics (e.g., age, gender, health status), contextual factors (i.e., working conditions) play the leading role in explaining variation in the level of satisfaction (58%). In particular, working in a high-quality facility increases worker satisfaction and willingness to remain in the profession, and in the current medical specialization, while working in a province with a perceived shortage of medical personnel yields the opposite result. Direct experience with COVID-19 (e.g., having tested positive) is not significantly correlated with the level of job satisfaction, which is instead significantly reduced by changes in the working conditions caused by the health emergency.

Abstract
Background: The consequences of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, especially the financial burden imposed on the healthcare systems and hospitals, have been unpredictable around the world. Radiology wards have been exposed to the highest burden during this pandemic. Objectives: This study aimed to calculate the cost of diagnostic imaging services before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, using the activity-based costing (ABC) method in an important diagnostic center of COVID-19 in Khorramabad, Iran. Patients and Methods: In this retrospective study, data were extracted from the hospital accounting sources in the radiology ward over two years (2019 - 2021). According to the ABC method, four types of cost were defined, including wage, supporting services, Consuming materials, and overhead expenses. Therefore, based on the monthly number of services, the unit cost of each service was calculated. Results: The unit cost of all services during the COVID-19 pandemic was higher than before, except for CT scan (before: 6.1 United States dollar [USD]; during: 5.6 USD) (P = 0.008). The unit cost of MRI service was 5.7 USD before the pandemic and 7.1 USD during the pandemic (P = 0.57); the cost per radiography service was 1.8 USD before the pandemic and 7.1 USD during the pandemic (P = 0.01); and the cost per sonography service was 1.1 USD before the pandemic and 2.8 USD during the pandemic (P = 0.04). Finally, the cost of mammography increased dramatically during the pandemic (before the pandemic: 21.3 USD; during the pandemic: 48.2 USD) (P = 0.004). Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the radiology department expenses. The cost of CT scan services decreased due to the large number of services provided compared to the pre-pandemic period.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors related to Japanese nurses' desire to quit their jobs during the Omicron wave of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. We distributed an original, self-administered questionnaire to nurses at 3 facilities that accepted patients with coronavirus disease 2019 in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. Of the 625 nurses, 152 responded (24.3%); after excluding 3 men to rule out the effects of sex, responses for 81 (53.3%) nurses were analyzed. In total, 49 (60.5%) nurses expressed a desire to quit their current job. After controlling for the effects of age and years of experience, factors related to the desire to quit the current job included having fewer than 2 years of experience (odds ratio [OR] 9.08, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.69-48.87), feeling anxiety at work (OR 4.59, 95% CI 1.01-20.81), being afraid to go to work (OR 4.10, 95% CI 1.20-21.69), and experiencing difficulty talking to people (OR 10.26, 95% CI 1.48-70.99). Nurse managers should regularly screen nurses who have fewer than 2 years of experience, feel anxiety at work, are afraid to go to work, and find it difficult to talk to people. Early action may prevent the turnover of nurses during a public health emergency.

Abstract
Background Studies conducted in the health sector have determined a positive relationship between job satisfaction and work engagement. However, this paper reveals that this relationship turns into a negative or non-significant relationship during the COVID-19 pandemic. We explore the reasons for inconsistency in research findings in this critical period through a meta-analysis. Methods This study was conducted according to the PRISMA guidelines and PICO framework. Online databases including Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, ProQuest, Google Scholar, and additional records from other databases were searched without any time limitation, and all studies published in English that reported the correlation between work engagement and job satisfaction were included in the analysis. In total, 36 individual correlation coefficients were synthesized. R statistical language was used to analyze the data. Result A total of 36 studies with a sample size of 16,087 were synthesized. The overall effect size was found as r = 0.57 (95% CI [0.50-0.64]). While the moderating effect of national culture was not statistically significant, presence of COVID-19 as the significant moderator explained 37.08% of effect size heterogeneity. Such that the presence of COVID-19 has transformed the positive relationship between work engagement and job satisfaction into a negative but statistically non-significant relationship. Conclusion This study empirically challenges the existing assumptions about the positive link between work engagement and job satisfaction. The results of the research can be a guide for managers and policymakers. Specifically, based on these results, different mechanisms can be put in place to support work engagement and, in turn, job satisfaction in the COVID-19 process.

Abstract
Fear-responses to bat-originating coronavirus pandemics with respect to quarantine imposition are gathered and interpreted from large datasets, identified and disseminated by media. Responses are effectively gauged using postmodern thought with a continuum ranging from people’s resilience to define their own perspectives to public views being socially conditioned from media persistence in maintaining fear. Public responses to the 2003 SARS pandemic generally presumed and supported resilience of citizens’ perspectives. In contrast, from late 2019 to mid-2022, public responses to the COVID-19 pandemic were media-determined, promoting fear. In this regard, reactions to the COVID-19 quarantines are contrasted to the hospital isolations of SARS. The primary source of the difference was the major polarizing influence by social media of the WHO policy makers’ pronouncements and of healthcare providers’ statements directing media spotlight in their guidance of public response to COVID-19 throughout the pandemic, unlike during SARS. An investigation of cognitive bias regarding the psychological and societal implications related to this migration from resilience to fear regarding public responses to novel bat-originating coronavirus pandemics elicits recommendations concerning future quarantine dictates. These recommendations are dependent on appropriate encouragement of hopeful resilience through evidence based practice with respect to one extreme of the postmodern thought continuum.

Abstract
Introduction: In a challenging time for the healthcare workforce responding to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, it is critical to identify factors contributing to team members' feelings of “belonging” in the workplace. The Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Quintuple Aim’s principle of improving healthcare worker well-being could be applied to explore the implications of the increased turnover and stress, which connect to components of belonging. This study applies a qualitative approach to the organizational issues impacting healthcare teams, particularly during a complex and uncertain time. Methods: To elucidate factors contributing to belonging, we conducted a series of semi-structured interviews with an interdisciplinary cross-sectional sample of healthcare workers. Interviews were conducted with 23 total staff members in two clinical settings, the emergency department and hospital medicine groups at a large urban teaching hospital, to evaluate team members’ perspectives of the work environment. Results: Participants discuss their degree of inclusion, excitement, challenges, and respective needs from the organization. Perspectives of workers representing varied professional roles of the healthcare team were gathered to provide robust and unique insights into initiatives that can enhance belonging in the clinical workplace. Conclusion: Our findings provide a preliminary framework to identify strategies that can potentially reinforce collective team member belonging and consequently improve staff well-being, morale, and retention.

Abstract
Background The rapid spread of COVID-19 poses a major threat to public health worldwide. Hospital blue-collar workers, like other health care workers, may be under severe physical and psychological stress. This psychological distress is mainly described as symptoms of anxiety and depression, stress and cognitive function. This study aimed to investigate the effects of anxiety on cognitive function among laundry and sterilization center workers in 4 hospitals during COVID-19 pandemic. Method This study has a cross-sectional design and it was conducted among health service workers who were occupied in health facilities (laundry and sterilization center) in 4 hospitals. In the present study, two questionnaires and a test were used to collect the data included a general health questionnaire (GHQ-28), a health anxiety index questionnaire (HAI-18) and a cognitive function test. Descriptive statistics and Spearman correlation coefficient by SPSS version 19 were used. Results The results showed that the overall score of coronavirus anxiety in male and female workers was 38.72 ± 5.94 and 40.92 ± 4.11, respectively. The correlation between auditory attention and coronavirus anxiety is moderate and has a negative trend (P = 0.050, n = 50, and r = -0.315). Workers with higher anxiety expressed lower auditory attention. Also, correlation between visual attention and coronavirus anxiety was weak and negative (P = 0.032, n = 50, and r = -0.179). Conclusion This study revealed that cognitive and psychological aspects of mental health can be affected by COVID-19 exposure and its due anxiety in blue-collar workers in hospitals. These findings indicate that purposeful supportive interventions should be implemented to promote workers' health and cognitive function.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected not only the quality of care and patient safety but also physician engagement. The aim of this study was to investigate physician engagement before and during the COVID-19 pandemic and to identify the areas to improve regarding physician engagement. An online survey was conducted from April 2019 to September 2020 among the physicians of 44 hospitals under the Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited (BDMS) before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results were analyzed using an independent T-test and one-way ANOVA to compare the continuous variables across groups. Multiple linear regression was used to identify and adjust the variables to determine the areas for improvement. Among the 10,746 respondents, physician engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic was significantly higher than in the pre-COVID-19 period (4.12 vs. 4.06, p-value < 0.001). The top three recommendations to promote physician engagement during the COVID-19 situation comprised (1) marketing (70%), (2) intra-and inter-organizational communication (69%), and (3) the competency of clinical staff (67%). During the COVID-19 pandemic, the positive outcomes toward physician engagement focused on infra-organizational development. These results can be considered in a strategy to optimize physician engagement, which affects the quality of care and patient safety.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The shortage of health care workforce is a common problem all over the world and one of the main reasons for the shortage is the high turnover rate. Based on the characteristics of medical work, this study explored the relationship among public service motivation (PSM), work stress, task performance and turnover intention. METHODS Medical personnel in public hospitals were selected by stratified random sampling in Jilin province of China and validated scales from previous studies were applied to measure the variables. Besides, a structural equation model of turnover intention was constructed to demonstrate the relationship. RESULTS A total of 3191 valid questionnaires were collected. The results showed that the score of turnover intention was 2.02 ± 1.13. There are significant differences in turnover intention among medical staff of different genders and departments. At the same time, PSM had direct and negative effects on the turnover intention (β = -0.292, P < 0.001), work stress had direct and positive effects on the turnover intention (β = 0.479, P < 0.001), whereas task performance had no significant effect on turnover intention (β = 0.044, P < 0.142). The results showed an acceptable fit model. CONCLUSION The greater the PSM, the lower the turnover intention, and the higher the work stress, the higher the turnover intention. In addition, work stress and task performance play a mediating role between PSM and turnover intention. This paper provides theoretical support for the measures to reduce the turnover intention of medical staff.

Abstract
Objective To assess the facilities and challenges encountered in the clinical laboratories, satisfaction of the medical laboratory staff (MLS) toward their profession and their views on the role of related health institutions during the first wave of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in Nepal. Methods A web-based cross-sectional study was conducted among registered MLS in Nepal. Data were collected using a structured self-reported questionnaire on the Google Docs platform. Results A total of 301 respondents were enrolled in the study; of which 180 were male and 121 were female. Of the 301 respondents, a lack of infrastructure was reported by 241 (80.1%), a lack of skill development training by 204 (67.8%), limited availability of diagnostics kits by 151 (50.2%), overburdened by the workload by 142 (47.2%) and difficulty in sample management by 129 (42.9%). A total of 244 of 301 respondents (81.1%) believed that stakeholder institutions should collaborate with the government during the pandemic. The level of satisfaction during the pandemic (130 of 301; 43.19%) was found to have decreased compared with before the pandemic (203 of 301; 67.4%). Conclusion MLS were not fully satisfied with the available resources during the pandemic.

Abstract
Background There is limited research focusing on publicly available statistics on the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic as predictors of mental health across countries. Managers are at risk of suffering from mental disorders during the pandemic because they face particular hardship. Objective We aim to predict mental disorder (anxiety and depression) symptoms of managers across countries using country-level COVID-19 statistics. Methods A two-wave online survey of 406 managers from 26 countries was performed in May and July 2020. We used logistic panel regression models for our main analyses and performed robustness checks using ordinary least squares regressions. In the sample, 26.5% of managers reached the cut-off levels for anxiety (General Anxiety Disorder-7; GAD-7) and 43.5% did so for depression (Patient Health Questionnaire-9; PHQ-9) symptoms. Findings We found that cumulative COVID-19 statistics (e.g., cumulative cases, cumulative cases per million, cumulative deaths, and cumulative deaths per million) predicted managers' anxiety and depression symptoms positively, whereas daily COVID-19 statistics (daily new cases, smoothed daily new cases, daily new deaths, smoothed daily new deaths, daily new cases per million, and smoothed daily new cases per million) predicted anxiety and depression symptoms negatively. In addition, the reproduction rate was a positive predictor, while stringency of governmental lockdown measures was a negative predictor. Individually, we found that the cumulative count of deaths is the most suitable single predictor of both anxiety and depression symptoms. Conclusions Cumulative COVID-19 statistics predicted managers' anxiety and depression symptoms positively, while non-cumulative daily COVID-19 statistics predicted anxiety and depression symptoms negatively. Cumulative count of deaths is the most suitable single predictor of both anxiety and depression symptoms. Reproduction rate was a positive predictor, while stringency of governmental lockdown measures was a negative predictor.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic greatly impacted global health. Frontline healthcare workers involved in the response to COVID-19 faced physical and psychological challenges that threatened their wellbeing and job satisfaction. The pandemic crisis, alongside pre-existing critical issues, exposed healthcare workers to constant emotional fatigue, creating an increased workload and vulnerability to stress. Maintaining such stress levels increased their levels of anxiety, irritability and loneliness. Evidence shows that the Psychological Capital (PsyCap) was a strong protective factor against these stressors. The aim of this study was to analyze the level of job satisfaction among health workers facing the COVID-19 pandemic. The possible antecedent factors to satisfaction and the role that PsyCap plays in preserving and fostering higher levels of job satisfaction were investigated. A total of 527 healthcare workers from different areas of Italy were recruited for the study. The results revealed that psychological stress factors have a considerable impact on job satisfaction. All four predictors (Stress Vulnerability, Anxiety Symptoms, Loneliness and Irritability) had the potential to decrease job satisfaction. Loneliness had a more significant effect than other factors assessed in this study. Moreover, the results showed how PsyCap could decrease the effects of psychological stressors on job satisfaction. Consistent with previous studies, our findings show that PsyCap could alleviate negative impacts in work-related circumstances.

Abstract
We analyzed the number of cumulative positive cases of COVID-19 as a function of time in countries around the World. We tracked the increase in cases from the onset of the pandemic in each region for up to 150 days. We found that in 81 out of 146 regions the trajectory was described with a power-law function for up to 30 days. We also detected scale-free properties in the majority of sub-regions in Australia, Canada, China, and the United States (US). We developed an allometric model that was capable of fitting the initial phase of the pandemic and was the best predictor for the propagation of the illness for up to 100 days. We then determined that the power-law COVID-19 exponent correlated with measurements of human mobility. The COVID-19 exponent correlated with the magnitude of air passengers per country. This correlation persisted when we analyzed the number of air passengers per US states, and even per US metropolitan areas. Furthermore, the COVID-19 exponent correlated with the number of vehicle miles traveled in the US. Together, air and vehicular travel explained 70% of the variability of the COVID-19 exponent. Taken together, our results suggest that the scale-free propagation of the virus is present at multiple geographical scales and is correlated with human mobility. We conclude that models of disease transmission should integrate scale-free dynamics as part of the modeling strategy and not only as an emergent phenomenological property.
