The process of dredging reservoirs serves the purpose of preserving water storage capacity and ensuring the functionality of navigational channels. Additionally, it has the potential to mitigate the presence of pollutants and chemicals that pose risks to both the environment and human well-being. This review article examines the many ways of disposal and treatment of dredged sediment, as well as the ecological and economic advantages associated with these approaches. Algae and reed-based treatment methods have the potential to effectively and economically remediate and sustainably manage dredged sediments. Landfills and ocean dumping are widely utilized methods for the disposal of excavated materials. However, other approaches such as land reclamation, the use of fill material, and the preservation of wetlands can offer cost-effective solutions while also contributing to environmental conservation. The implementation of sediment cleaning, stabilization, and solidification techniques has the potential to effectively mitigate waste and improve the quality of sediment, hence facilitating its reuse. Algae and reed-based treatment systems have been found to effectively mitigate disposal costs and contribute to environmental enhancement. Additionally, the practice of reusing dredged sediments has been recognized as a valuable strategy in promoting a circular economy.

Diabetes is a complex condition, and the causes are still not fully understood. However, a growing body of evidence suggests that exposure to air pollution could be linked to an increased risk of diabetes. Specifically, exposure to certain pollutants, such as particulate Matter and Ozone, has been associated with higher rates of diabetes. At the same time, air pollution has also been linked to an increased risk of thyroid cancer. While there is less evidence linking air pollution to thyroid cancer than to diabetes, it is clear that air pollution could have severe implications for thyroid health. Air pollution could increase the risk of diabetes and thyroid cancer through several mechanisms. For example, air pollution could increase inflammation in the body, which is linked to an increased risk of diabetes and thyroid cancer. Air pollution could also increase oxidative stress, which is linked to an increased risk of diabetes and thyroid cancer. Additionally, air pollution could increase the risk of diabetes and thyroid cancer by affecting the endocrine system. This review explores the link between diabetes and air pollution on thyroid cancer. We will discuss the evidence for an association between air pollution exposure and diabetes and thyroid cancer, as well as the potential implications of air pollution for thyroid health. Given the connections between diabetes, air pollution, and thyroid cancer, it is essential to take preventive measures to reduce the risk of developing the condition.

Electrochemical gas sensors require regular maintenance to check and secure proper functioning. Standard procedures usually involve testing and recalibration of the sensors, for which working environments are needed. Periodic calibration is therefore necessary to ensure reliable and accurate measurements. This paper proposes a dedicated smart calibration rig with a set of novel features enabling simultaneous calibration of multiple sensors. The proposed calibration rig system comprises a gas mixing system, temperature control system, a test chamber, and a process-control PC that controls all calibration phases. The calibration process is automated by a LabVIEW-based platform that controls the calibration environment for the sensor nodes, logs sensor data, and best fit equation based on interpolation for every sensor on the node and uploads it to the sensor node for next deployments. The communication between the PC and the sensor nodes is performed using the same IEEE 802.15.4 (ZigBee) protocol that the nodes also use in field deployment for air quality measurement. The results presented demonstrate the effectiveness of the sensors calibration rig.
