Abstract
BACKGROUND Endometriosis, characterized as an inflammatory ailment, affects females during their reproductive years, leading to decreased quality of life. Despite the pivotal role of diet as a modifiable risk factor for various chronic conditions, its potential influence on endometriosis has remained inadequately explored. This research endeavor sought to scrutinize the association between dietary alternative healthy eating index, AHEI, and the likelihood of experiencing endometriosis among women in Iran. METHODS Conducted as a hospital-centered case-control investigation, the study enlisted individuals diagnosed with endometriosis alongside healthy counterparts, confirmed by a gynecologist, between February and September 2021 in Tehran, Iran. The pattern of diet was assessed utilizing a validated Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) encompassing 168 food items. Logistic regression models were employed to explore the potential connection between AHEI and the probability of endometriosis. RESULTS The analysis encompassed 105 subjects with endometriosis and 208 individuals in good health. After adjustment for total calories intake (Kcal), occupation, smoking (yes/no), age at menarche (years), menstruation duration (days), regular menstruation (yes/no), physical activity (minutes per week) and familial history of endometriosis (yes/no), it was observed that those with the high adherence to the AHEI, had about 92% lower odds of endometriosis (Odds Ratio: 0.08, 95%Confidence Intervals: 0.03, 0.24; P for trend < 0.001). CONCLUSION The investigation illustrated a protective effect of healthy eating index and its components on developing endometriosis.

Abstract
Adiposity is a major risk factor for the development of cancers, such as breast cancer(BC) in adults. However, the role of central adiposity or general obesity as primary predictors of BC occurrence and progression is not well-established. Therefore, the current study aimed to assess the association between various adiposity indices, including a body shape index(ABSI), abdominal volume index(AVI), body roundness index(BRI), conicity index(CI), body adiposity index(BAI), reciprocal ponderal index(RPI), and waist to height0.5 ratio(WHt0.5R) as surrogates for predicting the odds of BC in adult women. This case-control study was conducted at Shohada and Imam Hossain hospitals in Tehran and included 134 newly diagnosed BC cases and 267 controls. Anthropometric variables, including weight, height, and waist circumference were measured using standard methods, and various adiposity indices were calculated accordingly. The odds ratios(ORs) with 95% confidence intervals(CIs) for BC were reported across tertiles of adiposity indices using multivariable logistic regression. Participants in the highest tertile of BRI(OR:2.07;95% CI:1.04-4.12), BAI(OR:2.06;95% CI:1.05-4.03), and WHt0.5R(OR:1.81;95% CI:1.01-3.55) had significantly higher odds of BC compared to those in the lowest tertile(P < 0.05). Additionally, each SD increase in RPI was associated with lower odds of BC(OR:0.77;95% CI:0.61-0.98,P = 0.034). However, no significant associations were observed for CI, AVI, and ABSI with the odds of BC. Our results suggest that WHtR, BRI, BAI, and WHt0.5R may be more effective predictors of BC odds among the evaluated adiposity indices.

Abstract
It has been suggested that the dietary approaches to stop hypertension (DASH) diet as a plant-based dietary pattern can be useful in improvement of risk factors of metabolic syndrome (MetS). We designed a study to evaluate the effect of the DASH diet on insulin resistance and lipid accumulation product (LAP) in subjects with MetS. 60 subjects with MetS were assigned into two groups including the intervention group and the control group. The intervention group received DASH diet and the control group received a common healthy diet for 12 weeks. We measured fasting plasma glucose (FPG), triglyceride and glucose (TyG) index, metabolic score for insulin resistance (METS-IR) and LAP before and after intervention. We utilized SPSS software version 24 and an intention-to-treat method for data analysis. A total of 59 subjects completed the trial. After intervention a significant difference was observed between groups in FPG (P < 0.001), TyG index (P < 0.001) and LAP (P = 0.01). However, there was no significant difference between groups in values of METS-IR (P = 0.27). There was a significant reduction in the intervention group compared to the control group in FPG (-7.86 ± 10.08 vs. 0.97 ± 15.51; P = 0.01), TyG index (-0.20 ± 0.14 vs. 0.02 ± 0.11; P < 0.001), METS-IR (-2.50 ± 1.99 vs. -0.53 ± 2.21; P = 0.001) and LAP (-20.06 ± 12.02 vs. -5.87 ± 15.17; P < 0.001). Adherence to DASH diet can reduce some cardiovascular risk factors in subjects with MetS. Further clinical trials are required to reach a firm conclusion.

Abstract
Structural neuroplasticity in the brain may contribute to the persistence of low back pain (LBP) symptoms and the disability associated with them. It is not known if structural adaptations are evident early in the lifespan in young adults with LBP. This study compared gray matter in cortical sensorimotor regions in young adults with and without persistent LBP and identified gray matter and clinical predictors of pain-related disability. Eighty-two individuals with and without a history of LBP participated. Peak and average gray matter density in cortical sensorimotor regions of interest was quantified using voxel-based morphometry. Pain-related disability, pain intensity, pain duration, and pain-related fear were also assessed. Multiple linear regression was used to determine independent predictors of pain-related disability. We document significantly greater peak gray matter density in individuals with LBP in the primary somatosensory cortex, angular gyrus, and the midcingulate cortex. Pain-related disability positively correlated with average gray matter density in the posterior cingulate cortex. The most robust predictors of disability were average gray matter in the posterior cingulate, pain intensity, and pain-related fear. We demonstrate that in young adults, persistent LBP, and pain-related disability, are linked with structural differences in regions forming part of the brain network termed the pain matrix. In contrast with studies of LBP in older adults, our findings of increased rather than decreased gray matter in young adults with LBP suggest that gray matter may increase initially in response to nociceptive pain.

Abstract
Introduction The study aims to compare physical activity, sleep, body mass index (BMI), subjective health, stress, depression, impulsivity, and emotional intelligence across the Baltic countries while identifying key health determinants. Methods We interviewed men and women (18-64 years) in Estonia (n = 1,503) Latvia (n = 1,563) and Lithuania (n = 2,358) via an online survey. Results Obesity is most common among individuals in EE, both males and females, while the highest rates of overweight are observed in EE females and LT males. Sleep duration is comparable across the different countries, with women generally sleeping longer than men (p < 0.05). Sedentary behavior is shortest among LT females and LV males, although in all countries, females tend to sit more than males (p < 0.05). Moderate physical activity (MPA) levels are similar among males, but they are highest among EE females. In contrast, vigorous physical activity (VPA) is most prevalent in LV males and females. Emotional intelligence (EI) is lowest among LV females and EE males, while females consistently exhibit higher EI than males across all countries. Lithuanians frequently rate their health as "excellent" and show the lowest levels of impulsivity. Additionally, depression and stress are lowest in EE females and LV males. Estonians are more likely to eat breakfast regularly and tend to overeat less than their counterparts in LV and LT. Conclusion Our research clearly shows that perceived health among the Baltic countries is significantly inversely related to age, perceived stress, depression, and Body Mass Index (BMI). In contrast, we found positive associations between vigorous physical activity (VPA) and emotional intelligence (EI).

Abstract
Measurement reactivity, where the act of measuring a behavior changes that behavior, has been documented across various health outcomes. However, its effects on sleep remain understudied, despite the widespread use of sleep diaries in clinical and research settings. In this randomized experiment, 190 healthy young adults (aged 18-40 years; 63% female) were assigned to complete either a sleep diary (Consensus Sleep Diary) or a physical activity diary (Physical Activity Scale) for seven days. All participants completed the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) before and after the diary period. Daily diary completion rates were high (97.3%). Linear mixed-effects models revealed no significant main effects of time (pre vs. post) or condition (sleep vs. physical activity diary), and no significant interaction between time and condition for either PSQI or IPAQ scores. These results suggest stability in sleep quality and physical activity measures, with no evidence of measurement reactivity. An exploratory analysis comparing "good" and "poor" sleepers (based on baseline PSQI scores) found a significant effect of sleep quality group and a time × group interaction on PSQI scores. In this adequately powered short-term study of young adults, we found no evidence of measurement reactivity to daily sleep diaries. These findings suggest that in healthy individuals, completing a week of sleep diaries is unlikely to impact PSQI scores substantially. We discuss our results in terms of the direct controllability of sleep quality, which might make it less susceptible to measurement reactivity relative to other health outcomes.

Abstract
AIM Time-restricted eating (TRE) limits the time for food intake to typically 6-10 h/day without other dietary restrictions. The aim of the RESET2 (the REStricted Eating Time in the treatment of type 2 diabetes) trial is to investigate the effects on glycaemic control (HbA1c) and the feasibility of a 1-year TRE intervention in individuals with overweight/obesity and type 2 diabetes. The aim of the present paper is to describe the protocol for the RESET2 trial. METHODS RESET2 is a randomised, controlled, parallel-group, open-label trial. One hundred and sixty individuals with type 2 diabetes (HbA1c >53 mmol/mol (>7.0%)), and Body Mass Index ≥25 kg/m2 will be randomised to standard care plus TRE, or to standard care and habitual living. Both the intervention and control group will follow standard diabetes care including regular clinical visits 3-4 times/year. The intervention is divided into two periods: (1) a 3-month TRE period with a fixed eating window with a self-selected timing to obtain data from the participants' experiences with TRE and (2) a 9-month individually adjusted TRE period. Participants in the TRE group will be instructed to reduce their eating window by a minimum of 3 h/day compared to the habitual eating window and with an eating window of 8-10 h/day. Test days will be scheduled at baseline, after 3 months and after 1 year. The primary outcome is HbA1c (evaluated 3 months and 1 year after randomisation) and secondary outcomes are body weight, fat mass, continuous glucose monitoring derived time-in-range and use of antidiabetic medicine (evaluated 1 year after randomisation). Additionally, we will conduct a process evaluation to assess whether the TRE intervention functioned as hypothesised.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM While dietary factors are known to influence gallstone disease (GD), the specific role of dietary acid load (DAL) remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the relationship between DAL and GD risk using a case-control design. METHODS The study included 189 adults with newly diagnosed GD and 342 controls. Anthropometric data were collected, and DAL was calculated using the potential renal acid load (PRAL) and net endogenous acid production (NEAP) indices. Multivariable logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI), adjusting for confounders. RESULTS Participants in the higher tertiles of both PRAL and NEAP scores showed notably elevated grain consumption and reduced intake of vegetables and fruits (P < 0.001). Conversely, an inverse relationship was observed between NEAP scores and intake of legumes, nuts, and seeds (P = 0.044). After adjustment for confounders, the risk of GD was 25% higher in the second tertile (OR: 1.25; 95% CI: 0.9, 2.3) and 51% higher in the third tertile (OR: 1.51; 95% CI: 0.54, 1.36) of PRAL compared to the first tertile (P trend = 0.023). A similar trend was seen for NEAP, with a 19% increased risk in the second tertile (OR: 1.19; 95% CI: 0.78, 1.84) and 48% in the third tertile (OR: 1.48; 95% CI: 0.9, 2.3) relative to the first tertile. CONCLUSIONS Higher dietary acid load is associated with an increased risk of GD. Further studies are needed to confirm these findings and elucidate underlying mechanisms.

Abstract
Objectives Considering the high prevalence of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), high medical costs, and the lack of complete treatment, paying attention to the psychological processes of these patients can lead to providing cognitive solutions to eliminate or reduce pain, and improve its consequences and psychological effects. Accordingly, the current study aims to evaluate the relationship between mindfulness and quality of life, IBS symptom severity, severity of extra-intestinal symptoms, and obesity among a cross-sectional sample of patients with IBS. Method In this analytical cross-sectional study, 110 adults with IBS were confirmed according to Rome IV criteria by a physician. They were selected using cluster sampling. Various questionnaires and tools, including sociodemographic, physical activity, 24-item Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire Short Form (FFMQ-24), IBS-Quality of Life Instrument (IBS-QOL), IBS Symptom Severity Scale (IBS-SSS), and IBS Extra-intestinal Symptom Severity Scale (IBS-EISSS) were applied. SPSS software version 23 (IBM SPSS Statistics, Armonk, USA) was used for data analysis. Results Inverse significant association was observed between the mindfulness score and BMI, Global IBS-SSS score, and Global IBS-EISSS score (p < 0.05). Moreover, the mindfulness score was inversely associated with weight in adjusted models (model 2: B = -0.16, p = 0.02; model 3: B = -0.21, p = 0.002). Mindfulness was associated with fewer odds of being overweight and obese in patients with IBS (OR = 0.93, CI: 0.87-0.98). Conclusion Mindfulness had a significant relationship with obesity, the IBS symptom severity, as well as severity of extra-intestinal symptoms among those who suffer from IBS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies examining the relationship between plant-based diets and breast cancer (BrC) have provided conflicting evidence. To address these inconsistencies, we aimed to evaluate the association between the plant-based diet index (PDI), healthful PDI (hPDI), and unhealthy PDI (uPDI) with the odds of BrC in Iranian women. METHODS The current case-control research was performed on 133 Iranian women with BrC and 265 controls. The study subjects were selected from hospitals in Tehran. PDI, hPDI, and uPDI were categorized into eighteen food groups based on nutrient composition similarity. The relationship between PDIs and BrC was assessed using logistic regression. RESULTS After adjusting for confounding factors, the chance of developing BrC was lower in the highest tertile of hPDI compared to the lowest tertile (odds ratio (OR) = 0.495; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.274-0.891; P = 0.019). In addition, postmenopausal women in the second and last tertiles of hPDI had lower odds of BrC than those in the first tertile (T) (T2: OR = 0.342; 95% CI: 0.141-0.828; P = 0.017- T3: OR = 0.262; 95% CI: 0.107-0.639; P = 0.003) in the adjusted model. Furthermore, in premenopausal women in the highest tertile of uPDI, the odds of BrC were increased compared to the lowest tertile (OR = 2.546; 95% CI: 1.051-6.167; P = 0.038) in the adjusted model. CONCLUSIONS Adherence to a healthy plant-based dietary pattern, including vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts, and legumes, seems to be beneficial for BrC prevention, particularly in postmenopausal women. Future prospective cohort studies that consider menopausal status and the type of BrC are needed to support these findings.

Abstract
This study aims to investigate the association between the MIND index (Mediterranean- Dietary approaches to Stop Hypertension diet Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay) and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in the Iranian children. It builds upon existing research that highlights the role of dietary antioxidants in alleviating psychological disorders, cognitive impairments, and memory deficits. Additionally, previous studies have separately explored the beneficial effects of the Mediterranean and DASH diets on these issues. A case-control study was undertaken in Iran, involving a sample of 360 children and adolescents aged 7-13 years. Participants were divided into two groups, namely the case group (n = 120) and the control group (n = 240), with age and sex being matched between the groups. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV-TR) was employed for the diagnosis of ADHD. The MIND diet score was computed using the food intake data acquired from the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) completed by the subjects. The mean ± SD for the age and BMI of the study population was 8.76 ± 1.64 years and 16.90 ± 3.58 kg/m2, respectively. The mean score of MIND in this study was 27.93. After adjustment for potential confounder in the final model, subjects in highest compared to the lowest quartile of MIND diet score had significantly lower odds of ADHD (OR = 0.59, 95% CI 0.37-0.83; P-trend = 0.019). This study provides valuable evidence suggesting that adherence to the MIND diet is associated with decreased odds of ADHD.

Abstract
Background The study aimed to determine whether participation in professional sports, exercise in a sports/health center, or independent exercise (dependent variables) is associated with 11 health behavior-related indicators (independent variables) compared to having no exercise. Methods The survey involved 293 professional Lithuanian athletes, 2,120 who exercise independently or in a sports/health centre and perform at least one of the 20 most popular exercise types in Lithuania (hereafter referred to as "E-20"), and 3,400 who do not exercise. The participants were aged 18-74 years. Results The study uniquely examines a comprehensive range of 11 health-related indicators: body mass index, subjective health, depressed mood, stress, sedentary behavior, physical activity, sleep, alcohol consumption, smoking, overeating, and breakfast consumption. We examined whether these indicators differ between the three populations studied, whether they are associated with specific types of the E-20 exercises, and whether these patterns differ between men and women. Conclusion Our study indicates that participants who engaged in physical activity generally scored higher on various health-related scales compared to those who were inactive. These benefits include reductions in depressed mood, stress, body mass index, and binge eating, as well as improvements in the regularity of breakfast consumption, vigorous physical activity, moderate to vigorous physical activity, and sleep duration (notably in men).

Abstract
INTRODUCTION There is growing interest in the connection between ultra-processed food (UPF) and cardiovascular diseases. This study explores how UPF intake relates to the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) in at-risk patients undergoing elective angiography. METHODS Data covering demographic, and clinical details, and dietary intakes (using a validated food frequency questionnaire) were gathered from the Nutrition Heshmat Registry (NUTHER) in Rasht, Iran. UPF consumption was evaluated using the NOVA food classification system, with the exception of core grain foods. The study comprised 1,015 participants, who were classified based on the severity of CAD using the Gensini score (severe-CAD = Gensini score ≥ 60). Logistic regression was used to analyze the odd ratio (OR) and 95%confidence interval (95%CI) for severe-CAD across UPF quartiles (percentage of energy), and for each 10% increase in UPF intake. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) regression was employed to explore nonlinear relationships between UPF and severe-CAD. RESULTS Following controlling for potential confounders, normal-weight participants in the highest quartile of UPF exhibited about 5 times greater odds of severe-CAD than those in the lowest category (OR(95%CI): 5.01 (1.89, 13.29); P-for-trend = 0.002). Overweight/obese participants in the higher UPF quartiles had approximately 2-3.5 times greater odds for severe-CAD than those in the 1st quartile (ORs (95%CIs): 3rd quartile 1.91 (1.14, 3.21); and 4th quartile: 3.53 (2.07, 5.99); P-for-trend < 0.001). Each 10% increase in daily energy intake from UPF was associated with about 1.6-2 times increased severe-CAD risk among overweight/obese and normal-weight individuals (ORs (95%CIs) of 1.64 (1.28, 2.11), and 2.24 (1.24, 4.05), respectively). RCS analysis showed an upward trend toward higher UPF intake in relation to increased risk of severe-CAD (P-for-overall-trend < 0.0001; P-for-nonlinearity = 0.005). CONCLUSION The findings obtained underscore a direct association between UPF and the risk of CAD progression among at-risk patients, independent of BMI. However, further prospective studies are essential to confirm these results and better understand this relationship.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The study examines how ice and snow sports participation, fitness, perceived social support, and access to winter sports facilities affect health outcomes in China. Understanding winter sports' health benefits is essential for improving public health in colder parts of China, where their popularity is rising. METHODS A sample of 875 Chinese from various regions was used to examine variable relationships using structural equation modeling (SEM) and route analysis. RESULTS Health outcomes, fitness, winter sports facilities, and ice and snow sports participation were positively associated. A significant correlation (β = 0.22, p < 0.001) was established between ice and snow sports participation and physical fitness, highlighting the impact of winter sports on health. Perceived social support for winter sports improves cold weather tolerance (β = 0.27, p < 0.001), emphasizing the role of social networks in resilience. The correlation between physical fitness and access to winter sports facilities (β = 0.31, p < 0.001) highlights the importance of physical talents in winter sports participation. Positive associations between physical fitness (β = 0.25, p < 0.001) and winter sports social support (β = 0.19, p < 0.001) suggest favorable health and well-being impacts. Physical fitness moderates the health benefits of ice and snow sports participation (β = 0.12, p < 0.05), whereas perceived social support for winter sports mediates the effect (β = 0.09, p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The findings emphasize the importance of supporting ice and snow activities and providing infrastructure to promote health. Physical fitness and improved health outcomes on social support can improve winter sports benefits. Public health initiatives may leverage this information to encourage active living and enhance health.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Maternal position plays an essential role in achieving labour progress as it supports the physiological mechanisms of labour. Evidence supports that adopting upright positions may facilitate physiological childbirth. AIM To describe the use of various positionsamong nulliparous pregnant women in the last 24 h before birth and describe physical positions in relation to maternal and neonatal outcomes at time of birth. METHODS Cohort study of 105 nulliparous women with an uncomplicated singleton pregnancy. Body position was measured by two triaxial accelerometers (SENS motion®), and maternal and neonatal outcomes at time of birth were obtained from medical records. Positions were described for the total population and further stratified into two groups based on time spent in sacrum non-flexible (lying, sitting) and sacrum flexible (standing, walking) positions.Descriptive analyses of maternal position in relation to birth outcomes and comparisons between the two groups were made. RESULTS Lying down was the mostfrequent position adapted, with a median time of 659 (78;1208) minutes, equivalent to 11.0 hours. Women spent 1152 (687;1369) minutes in sacrum non-flexible positions, equivalent to 19.2 hours or 80 % of the last 24 hours before childbirth. More than 90 % gave birth in a sacrum non-flexible position. Women spending more time in sacrum non-flexible positions had more epidural analgesia than women spending more time in sacrum flexible positions (42.6 % and 21.3 %, p = 0.03). CONCLUSIONS Women spent 80% of their time in sacrum non-flexible positions during the last 24 hours before childbirth. At birth, more than 90% gave birth in sacrum non-flexible positions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Portfolio Diet (PD) is a plant-based dietary approach that has been associated with a reduced risk of cancer-related mortality. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between PD score (PDS) and breast cancer (BC) risk in Iranian women, providing insights into the impact of diet on BC risk across different menopausal stages. METHODS The current case-control study included 133 women with newly diagnosed BC and 265 controls without any neoplastic disorders, all of whom were referred to the oncology department of two referral hospitals in Tehran, Iran. A validated semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire, consisting of 168 food items, was used to gather dietary information. Additionally, odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were calculated to assess the associations of BC with the PDS and its components, using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis. RESULTS After adjusting for variables in multivariate analysis, a significantly lower association was observed between each unit increase in plant protein intake and the odds of BC in the total population (OR = 0.399, 95% CI: 0.170-0.936). Based on menopausal status, a significant association was found between PDS and the odds of BC in premenopausal women (OR = 0.914, 95% CI: 0.845-0.989). Additionally, in the postmenopausal women, significantly lower odds of BC were observed with each unit increase in plant protein intake in the adjusted model (OR = 0.078, 95% CI: 0.015-0.399). CONCLUSIONS This study provides novel insights into the protective role of PD against BC, demonstrating that a higher PDS is associated with a significant reduction in BC odds among premenopausal women. Plant protein intake also demonstrated a protective effect against BC in both the overall population and postmenopausal women. These findings highlight the potential benefit of the PD as a preventative dietary strategy against BC, particularly emphasizing the role of plant protein.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cardiovascular diseases are a leading cause of global mortality, with diet playing a key role in their progression. The Atherogenic Index of Plasma (AIP) is a predictive marker for cardiovascular risk, but its association with dietary intake across cardiometabolic phenotypes remains underexplored. This study investigates the relationship between dietary intake and AIP, hypothesizing that energy intake and macronutrients influence AIP and, consequently, cardiovascular risk. METHODS This cross-sectional study analyzed data from 9,515 participants aged 35-55 in the Azar cohort study. Based on Body Mass Index (BMI) and metabolic syndrome (MetS), participants were classified into four phenotypes: metabolically healthy normal weight (MHNW), metabolically unhealthy normal weight (MUHNW), metabolically healthy obese (MHO), and metabolically unhealthy obese (MUHO). Dietary intake was evaluated using a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ), and AIP was calculated. Adjustments were made for age, gender, socioeconomic status, and physical activity. RESULTS A notable difference was observed in demographic and clinical status between cardiometabolic groups of males and females. The AIP was highest in the MUHNW (0.42 for males; 0.28 for females) and lowest in the MHNW (0.05 for males; -0.05 for females, P < 0.001). There was a statistically significant difference in the mean energy intake and the percentage of energy intake from protein among the cardiometabolic phenotypes (p < 0.001). After adjusting for confounders, only weak but meaningful correlations remained for energy, carbohydrate, and protein intake in the MUHO (r = 0.048, P = 0.01; r = 0.057, P = 0.003; and r = 0.050, P = 0.01) and for carbohydrate and lipid intake in the MHO (r = 0.034, P < 0.01 and r = -0.055, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION The study found weak but meaningful correlations between energy, carbohydrate, and protein intake and AIP in the MUHO phenotype and between carbohydrate and lipid intake and AIP in the MHO phenotype. This highlights the role of energy and carbohydrates in AIP within specific subgroups. Future research should focus on the effects of macronutrient combinations on AIP and long-term dietary impacts on metabolic health instead of BMI.

Abstract
The associations between serum hemoglobin (Hb) levels and bone mineral density (BMD) were investigated in population of the 4th Iranian Multicenter Osteoporosis Study (IMOS). A positive relationship between Hb levels and BMD at hip and femoral neck were detected only in men. PURPOSE Previous studies have investigated the relationship between hemoglobin (Hb) levels and bone mineral density (BMD) with controversial findings. This study aimed to evaluate this association using data from the 4th Iranian Multicenter Osteoporosis Study (IMOS), a population-based national survey, including a population sample aged 50 years and older. METHODS The present study was conducted as a cross-sectional data analysis derived from the fourth round of the IMOS. Demographic information, Hb levels, and BMD measurements were collected. BMD was measured with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Low BMD (osteopenia/osteoporosis) and osteoporosis were defined as a T-score less than -1 and less than -2.5 at each site including hip, femoral neck, or lumbar spine, respectively. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to assess the relationship between Hb levels and BMD. RESULTS This study included 1,426 participants (54.2% female) with the mean age of 62.6 ± 8.0 years. The mean Hb levels among patients with or without osteoporosis were 12.9 ± 2.0 mg/dl and 13.1 ± 1.9 mg/dl, respectively (p-value = 0.08). It was demonstrated a positive relationship between Hb levels and BMD at hip (β = 0.0079, 95% CI: 0.002- 0.0135, p-value = 0.006) and femoral neck (β = 0.0064, 95% CI: 0.0015- 0.0113, p-value = 0.01) in only men. However, there was no significant correlation between Hb levels with low BMD and osteoporosis in either gender. CONCLUSION Our findings showed a favorable relationship between Hb levels and BMD at the hip and femoral neck, particularly in men. This highlights gender and site-specific distinctions between hematological and skeletal health..Future studies should unravel these possible associations and investigate the underlying mechanisms.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recent studies suggest a link between dietary fat quality and obesity. Genetic risk scores (GRS) can predict obesity risk based on genetic factors. This study investigates how GRS and fatty acid quality affect visceral adiposity index (VAI) and body adiposity index (BAI) in overweight and obese women. METHODS In this study, 278 overweight and obese women (aged 18-58) participated. We have used a comprehensive food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) to evaluate dietary intake and the fatty acids quality indexes. We have employed standard methods to measure biochemical factors, anthropometrics, and physical activity levels. Finally, the GRS was created by combining three SNPs [CAV-1 (rs3807992), Cry-1 (rs2287161), and MC4R (rs17782313)]. RESULTS The study found that there was no significant association between the quality of fat intake (as measured by CSI score and N6/N3 score) and VAI or BAI in both crude (B = 70.70, SE = 35.14, CI:1.81-139.55, P = 0.04) and adjusted models (B = 93.67, SE = 39.28, CI:16.68-17.68, P = 0.01). CSI provides information on cholesterol and saturated fats. However, there was a notable interaction between the GRS and the N6/N3 score on VAI, suggesting that obese women with high obesity-related SNPs who consumed foods with a higher ratio of N6/N3 fatty acids tended to have an increased VAI. CONCLUSION This study shows; that eating more food sources containing a higher ratio of N6/N3 may be the reason for the increase in VAI in obese women who have high obesity-related SNPs and emphasizes the matter of personalized nutrition in obesity issues.

Abstract
Introduction The happiness and well-being of individuals are among the most important components of life. However, there remains a lack of evidence regarding the relationships between students' happiness, vigor, and self-esteem on the one hand and various complex factors on the other hand. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional study involving 397 students from various Lithuanian universities. We determined students' happiness, self-esteem, vigor, healthy lifestyles, perceived stress, personality traits, academic achievements and motivation by using validated scales. Results and discussion The study indicates that while happiness and self-esteem are not linked to healthy lifestyles, vigor is positively associated with moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and healthy eating, and negatively with body mass index (BMI). Happiness and vigor inversely relate to stress, and happiness and self-esteem inversely relate to depression. Vigor is positively related to extraversion, and self-esteem to neuroticism. Happiness, vigor, and self-esteem are not linked to academic achievements, but happiness relates to non-utilitarian decisions, and self-esteem to emotional intelligence and non-utilitarian decisions. Happiness, vigor, self-esteem were not linked to intrinsic motivation to study, but self-esteem was inversely related to amotivation and childhood violence. This study fills the research gap and deepens the understanding of what determines students' happiness and vigor, and self-esteem.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The primary aim of our study is to explore how moderate-intensity physical activity (MPA), vigorous-intensity physical activity (VPA), moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), and sedentary behavior (SB) in men and women (ages 18-74; 4545 females and 1824 males) are associated with age, education, psychological factors (cognitive reflection/"cold" mind, emotional intelligence (E), impulsivity, perceived stress), health behaviors (overeating, breakfast consumption, smoking, alcohol use), body mass index (BMI), and sleep duration. METHODS The information was collected by means of an online survey ( https://docs.google.com/forms/ ) to ensure the anonymity of participation and confidentiality of data. RESULTS MVPA and SB in men and women are significantly influenced by education, age, BMI, lifestyle, and psychological factors, with some gender differences. Higher education reduces MVPA and increases SB, while age lowers SB and raises MVPA in women. BMI inversely affects MVPA and VPA, and breakfast supports higher activity levels, while overeating and alcohol (in men) are linked to lower MVPA and higher SB. Sleep duration weakly affects activity structure but inversely relates to SB. While Cognitive Reflection Test (CRT) scores-an indicator of logical reasoning-do not show a significant positive impact on physical activity levels (MPA, VPA, or MVPA) in either gender, they are associated with increased sedentary behavior in women. Emotional Intelligence (EI), however, plays a clear and positive role: higher EI is strongly associated with increased VPA and MVPA in both men and women, especially in women, and inversely related to SB in both genders. CONCLUSIONS The results of our study suggest that enhancing EI ("hot" mind) may be more effective than reasoning skills ("cold" mind) in promoting physical activity and reducing sedentary behavior, particularly in women. These findings highlight EI's potential as a key driver of active lifestyles, while logical reasoning appears to have a lesser impact.

Abstract
Introduction This study protocol specifies the primary research line and theoretical framework of the 2023 Survey of the Psychology and Behavior of the Chinese Population. It aims to establish a consistent database of Chinese residents' psychological and behavioral surveys through multi-center and large-sample cross-sectional surveys to provide robust data support for developing research in related fields. It will track the public's physical and psychological health more comprehensively and systematically. Methods The study was conducted from June 20, 2023 to August 31, 2023, using stratified and quota sampling methods. A total of 150 cities across 800 communities/villages were surveyed, selected from China (Despite extensive coordination, we have been unable to contact our counterparts in the Taiwan region of China to obtain relevant statistical data). The questionnaires were distributed to the public one-on-one and face-to-face by trained surveyors. The questionnaires included basic information about the individual, personal health status, basic information about the family, the social environment in which the individual lives, psychological condition scales, behavioral level scales, other scales, and attitudes towards topical social issues. Supervisors conducted quality control during the distribution process and returned questionnaires, logically checked and cleaned for data analysis. Discussion Data collection has been finished, and scientific outputs based on this data will support the development of health promotion strategies in China and globally. In the aftermath of the pandemic, it will guide policymakers and healthcare organizations to improve their existing policies and services to maximize the physical and mental health of the Chinese population. Trial Registration This study was filed in the National Health Security Information Platform (Record No.: MR-37-23-017876) and officially registered in the China Clinical Trials Registry (Registration No.: ChiCTR2300072573).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common, heterogeneous clinical syndrome affecting women. Investigating oxidative stress in women is crucial, as it is linked to insulin resistance and endothelial dysfunction. Chlorogenic acid, a bioactive component found in green coffee, has numerous documented health benefits. This study aimed to assess the beneficial effects of green coffee consumption on paraoxonase-1 (PON-1) activity and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in women with PCOS. METHODS This study was a double-blind randomized clinical trial that included 44 patients with PCOS. Participants were randomly assigned to either the intervention or control group. For 6 weeks, the intervention group (n=22) received 400 mg of green coffee supplements, while the control group (n=22) received 400 mg of a starch-based placebo. Anthropometric indices, dietary assessments, and physical activity levels were evaluated before and after the 6-week intervention period. Additionally, blood samples were collected for laboratory analysis. RESULTS Supplementation with green coffee increased PON-1 levels by 3.5 units, a significant finding (p=0.038). Additionally, the intake of green coffee supplements significantly reduced blood cholesterol levels by 18.8 units (p=0.013) and triglyceride levels by 6.1 units (p=0.053). However, no significant differences were observed in the levels of MDA, high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, fasting blood sugar, insulin, or homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance as a result of the intervention. CONCLUSION Supplementation with green coffee alters PON-1 activity and cholesterol levels in women with PCOS. However, it has no significant impact on MDA levels or glycemic status.

Abstract
BACKGROUND It has been documented that regular physical activity is considered one of the most effective strategies for preventing diabetes; however, it is not the sole contributing factor. Therefore, we decided to evaluate the meditation effect of liver function and anthropometric indices on the relationship between incidence of diabetes and physical activity (PA) in the Azar cohort population. MATERIALS AND METHODS Subjects who were diabetic in the baseline phase from 15,006 participants in study of azar cohort population were excluded and to follow up, a total of 13,253 people was included in the analysis. Demographic characteristics, physical activity, 10 anthropometric indices (AI) and seven liver indices (LI) were measured. Evaluated and displayed using Pearson correlation heatmap and canonical correlation of liver and anthropometric indices. The Generalized Structural Equation Modeling (GSEM) with the Maximum Likelihood method employed to estimate the model. RESULTS During the follow-up years, a total of 685 participants developed diabetes. The measurements of the AI were significantly higher in subjects with diabetes (P < .001). Patients with diabetes were older, had a higher proportion of women, and had lower values of PA (P < .05). Body Roundness Index (BRI) and Waist height ratio (WHtR) exhibited the largest AUCs for predicting diabetes onset risk (both AUC = 0.6989) among these anthropometric measures. The increase in AI (RR [95%CI] = 1.25 [1.22,1.29], P < .001) and liver enzyme (LE) (RR [95%CI] = 1.14 [1.08.1.19], P < .001) increase the risk of diabetes by 25% and 14%, respectively. Despite the mediation effects of AI and Liver Enzymes for an increase of one MET of PA, the risk of developing diabetes decreases by 5% (RR [95% CI] = .95 [.92,.99], P = .013). Around VAF = 53% of the association between PA and diabetes onset (Total effect: RR [95% CI] = .90 [.87,.94], P < .001) was mediated by AI and LE. CONCLUSIONS A low level of PA was found to be significantly correlated with high levels of AI and LI, all of which are associated with an increased risk of developing diabetes. These analyses provide evidence that when the relationship between PA and diabetes is mediated by AI and LI this association becomes stronger, with AI playing a more significant role than LI.

Abstract
Background The current study aimed to evaluate the association between the intake of plant-based protein, animal-based protein, total protein, and the ratio of plant to animal protein with sleep quality and quality of life in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Methods In this cross-sectional study, 479 adult patients undergoing dialysis for a minimum of 3 months were included. The dietary intake was calculated using information from a validated 168-item semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire. Quality of life (QOL) was assessed using the Kidney Disease Quality of Life Short Form (KDQOL-SF 1.3). and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to assess sleep quality. Results In this study, the mean age of the participants was 58.18 years (± 14.25 years), with the majority being male (58.2%). After adjusting for potential confounders, significant positive associations were observed between total protein intake (β = 0.12, p = 0.03) and quality of life (QOL). Conversely, there were significant negative associations between the ratio of plant to animal protein intake (β = -0.94, p < 0.01) and QOL. Furthermore, significant negative associations were found between total protein intake (β = -0.02, p < 0.05) and animal protein intake (β = -0.19, p < 0.05) with poor sleep quality. Additionally, there were significant positive associations between the ratio of plant to animal protein intake (β = 0.188, p < 0.05) and poor sleep quality. Conclusion Increased consumption of animal protein is associated with improved sleep quality and Quality of Life (QOL) in patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD). Further research, especially prospective studies, is required to confirm these associations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND It has been shown that chronic inflammation is a significant factor in cancer development and progression. The current study aimed to investigate whether a higher score on the empirical dietary inflammatory pattern (EDIP), which indicates a more pro-inflammatory diet, is related to higher odds of breast cancer in Iranian women. METHODS In the present case-control study, subjects in the case (n = 133) and control (n = 265) groups were chosen from the hospitals in Tehran, Iran. The cases consisted of women with newly diagnosed breast cancer, while the controls were selected from other parts of the same hospital and had no history of cancer or hormone therapy. Individuals whose reported energy intake deviated by three standard deviations above or below the mean energy intake of the population were excluded from the study. A reliable and valid semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire was used to determine the participants' dietary intake. Additionally, the association between breast cancer and EDIP was evaluated by logistic regression analysis in both crude and adjusted models. RESULTS The median scores of EDIP in the case and control groups were 0.65 and 0.61, respectively. The findings also indicated that, in the adjusted model, the odds of developing breast cancer significantly increased in the last tertile of EDIP compared to the first tertile (odds ratio (OR) = 1.859; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.059-3.265; P = 0.031). Additionally, after adjusting for potential confounders, higher odds of breast cancer were observed in the last tertile of EDIP compared to the first tertile in postmenopausal women (OR = 2.516; 95% CI: 1.081-5.856; P = 0.033). CONCLUSIONS The current study indicated that individuals with a higher pro-inflammatory diet score were more likely to develop breast cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Results from studies investigating the association between ultra-processed foods (UPFs) and breast cancer are scarce and, in some cases, contradictory. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the association between the intake of processed foods (PFs) and UPFs with the risk of breast cancer in Iranian women. METHODS The present case (n = 133) - control (n = 266) study was carried out at two general hospitals in Tehran, Iran. A 168-item semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire was used to assess the participants' dietary intake. Also, the NOVA classification was used to identify PFs and UPFs. The association between PFs and UPFs with the odds of breast cancer was analyzed using logistic regression models. RESULTS According to Model 1 of conditional logistic regression, the odds of breast cancer were higher in the last tertile of UPFs than in the first tertile (odds ratio (OR) = 1.930; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.080-3.449). In Model 2, no significant association was observed between the second and last tertiles of PFs and UPFs with the odds of breast cancer compared to the reference tertile. Also based on menopause status, the odds of breast cancer increased in the last tertile only among premenopausal women in Model 2 (OR = 3.656; 95% CI: 1.326-10.079). CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrated that higher consumption of UPFs is associated with higher odds of breast cancer in premenopausal women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dietary patterns play a crucial role in the development and management of metabolic syndrome (MetS). The Healthy Beverage Index (HBI) is a novel tool that assesses the quality of beverage choices in the diet and provides insights into their potential impact on metabolic health. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between the HBI and the MetS. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted using data collected at baseline from the Ravansar Noncommunicable Disease Cohort Study. A total of 9,025 participants aged 35 to 65 years were included in the analysis. HBI was calculated using food items from the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). MetS status was defined according to established criteria, and logistic regression analysis was performed to assess the association between HBI scores and MetS, adjusting for potential confounding variables. RESULTS In our study, 41.13% of the population was found to have MetS, with a significant association between MetS and tertiles of HBI. Furthermore, the logistic regression model showed a significant inverse association between HBI scores and the odds of developing a MetS (OR = 0.90; 95% CI: 0.86, 0.94), even after adjusting for confounding factors, emphasizing the potential protective effect of higher HBI scores. CONCLUSION Increased HBI scores were associated with lower risk of MetS, emphasizing the importance of choosing health-promoting beverages in controlling MetS. These findings support the association between dietary habits and metabolic health and provide practical guidance for individuals and public health initiatives aimed at improving metabolic outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND According to epidemiological studies, unhealthy dietary patterns and lifestyle lead to rising obesity and cardiometabolic diseases in Iran. Hybrid techniques were used to identify a dietary pattern characterized by fiber, folic acid, and carotenoid intake due to their association with cardiometabolic risk factors such as anthropometric measurements, blood pressure, lipid profile, C-Reactive Protein (CRP), Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor (PAI), Homeostatic Model Assessment Index (HOMA Index), cardiometabolic index (CMI), and monocyte chemoattractant protein (MCP-1). So, the objective of the recent study is to compare the reduced-rank regression (RRR) and partial least-squares (PLS) approaches to principal component analysis (PCA) for estimating diet-cardiometabolic risk factor correlations in Iranian obese women. METHODS Data on dietary intake was gathered from 376 healthy overweight and obese females aged 18 to 65 years using a 147-item food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). In this cross-sectional study, participants were referred to health centers of Tehran. Dietary patterns were developed using PCA, PLS, and RRR, and their outputs were assessed to identify reasonable patterns connected to cardiometabolic risk factors. The response variables for PLS and RRR were fiber, folic acid, and carotenoid intake. RESULTS In this study, 3 dietary patterns were identified by the PCA method, 2 dietary patterns by the PLS method, and one dietary pattern by the RRR method. High adherence to the plant-based dietary pattern identified by all methods were associated with higher fat free mass index (FFMI) (P < 0.05). Women in the highest tertile of the plant-based dietary pattern identified by PLS had 0.06 mmol/L (95% CI: 0.007,0.66, P = 0.02), 0.36 mmHg (95% CI: 0.14,0.88, P = 0.02), and 0.46 mg/l (95% CI: 0.25,0.82, P < 0.001), lower FBS, DBP, and CRP respectively than women in the first tertile. Also, PLS and RRR-derived patterns explained greater variance in the outcome (PCA: 1.05%; PLS: 11.62%; RRR: 25.28%), while the PCA dietary patterns explained greater variance in the food groups (PCA: 22.81%; PLS: 14.54%; RRR: 1.59%). CONCLUSION PLS was found to be more appropriate in determining dietary patterns associated with cardiometabolic-related risk factors. Nevertheless, the advantage of PLS over PCA and RRR must be confirmed in future longitudinal studies with extended follow-up in different settings, population groups, and response variables.

Abstract
Phytochemicals are compounds found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and legumes that are non-nutritive but have bioactive properties. A high intake of these compounds is essential for optimal health and disease prevention. No study has investigated the association between Dietary Phytochemical Index (DPI) and polyneuropathy in patients with diabetes. This study aimed to examine the association between DPI and Diabetic Sensory-motor Polyneuropathy (DSPN) in a case-control study. In this case-control study, a total of 185 diabetic patients with DSPN (case group) and 185 sex- and age-matched diabetic patients without neuropathy (control group) were enrolled in this study. Participants were 30-60 years old. A validated food frequency questionnaire was used to measure the dietary intake of all participants. Daily energy derived from phytochemical-rich foods was used to calculate the DPI score. Toronto clinical neuropathy score was applied to define DSPN. Anthropometric data and fasting blood glucose levels were measured using standard methods. The Binary logistic regression was used to estimate Crude and multivariable-adjusted OR (95% CI) for DSPN across tertiles of DPI for the whole population. In the crude model, there was a significant trend across the tertile of DPI (OR highest vs. lowest tertile of DPI = 0.33; 95%CI 0.18, 0.52; P-trend < 0.001). After controlling for age, sex, and energy, a significant reverse association was observed between DPI and DSPN (OR highest vs. lowest tertile of DPI = 0.27; 95%CI 0.15, 0·48; P-trend < 0.001). Moreover, after adjusting for a wide range of confounding variables such as energy intake, physical activity, education, smoking status, and HbA1c, participants in the third tertile of DPI had 75% reduced odds for DSPN (95%CI 0.14, 0.45; P-trend < 0.001). Finally in the full adjusted model, after further adjustment for BMI, observed significant association was remained (OR highest vs. lowest tertile of DPI: 0.24; 95% CI 0.13, 0.14; P-trend < 0.001). Higher intakes of phytochemical-rich foods are associated with lower odds of DSPN.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE Osteoporosis is a growing public health concern, particularly among the aging population. This study aimed to evaluate the association between osteoporosis and quality of life (QoL) in a sample of older adults. METHODS This cross-sectional study utilized data from all the participants of Bushehr Elderly Health program (BEHP), phase 2. QoL was assessed using the 12-Item Short Form Survey (SF-12 Questionnaire), and participants were classified as having osteoporosis or not based on the WHO diagnostic criteria. The physical (PCS) and mental (MCS) component summaries of QoL were estimated. The association between osteoporosis and QoL was evaluated separately for men and women, considering various health and lifestyle factors using linear regression analysis. RESULTS The study included 2,399 participants (average age 71.27 ± 7.36 years). 1,246 were women and 1,153 were men. Osteoporosis was present in 59% of women and 23% of men. Participants with osteoporosis had significantly lower PCS scores compared to those without osteoporosis (women: 38.1 vs. 40.2, p < 0.001; men: 44.3 vs. 45.8, p: 0.002). However, there was no statistically significant difference in MCS scores. Stratified by sex, osteoporosis was significantly associated with PCS in women [β = -2.14 (-3.13, -1.15)] and men [β = -1.53 (-2.52, -0.54)]. After accounting for relevant variables, the association remained significant in women [β=-0.95 (-1.87, -0.03)], but not in men [β=-0.63 (-1.55,0.28)]. CONCLUSION This study highlights the significant association between osteoporosis and the physical component of QoL in both older men and women, particularly among women. Further research and interventions focusing on enhancing physical QoL in individuals with osteoporosis are warranted to promote healthier aging.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Obesity has been linked to various conditions, including nephrolithiasis. Given the rising prevalence of both nephrolithiasis and obesity in older adults, this study aimed to examine the association of different obesity-related indices with nephrolithiasis. METHODS This cross-sectional study included 2419 individuals (mean age 69.34 ± 6.40; 51.92 % female) from the Bushehr Elderly Health (BEH) program, a population-based measured using Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), while nephrolithiasis history was assessed through medical records. The associations between obesity-related indices and nephrolithiasis were analyzed using multivariable logistic regression models, adjusted for relevant confounders. RESULTS Among the 2419 participants, 212 (8.76 %) had a history of nephrolithiasis. In the overall population, only the android-to-gynoid fat mass (FM) ratio was significantly associated with nephrolithiasis (odds ratio [OR] 3.28, 95 % Confidence Interval [CI] 1.06-10.18). In females, the trunk-to-limb FM ratio (OR 2.62, 95 % CI 1.10-6.23) and the visceral adipose index (VAI) (OR 1.092, 95 % CI 1.005-1.187) were associated with nephrolithiasis. In males, only the body adipose index (BAI) was significantly associated with nephrolithiasis (OR 1.082, 95 % CI 1.017-1.151). CONCLUSION In this study, the android-to-gynoid FM ratio in the total population, the trunk-to-limb FM ratio and VAI in females, and BAI in males were significantly associated with nephrolithiasis. Monitoring and managing these indices may enhance quality of life for elderly individuals by facilitating early diagnosis of nephrolithiasis and preventing stone formation.

Abstract
Background Liver cirrhosis is considered a progressive disease that can eventually result in death. Vitamin D deficiency is prevalent in patients with cirrhosis. Few studies have been conducted on the effect of vitamin D supplementation in patients with cirrhosis. Objectives The aim of this study was to identify the effect of vitamin D supplementation on lipid profile, glycaemic indices and liver function tests in patients with cirrhosis. Methods Sixty patients with cirrhosis were involved in this double-blind, randomised controlled clinical trial. During the intervention, patients received one 50 000 IU pearl of vitamin D supplement or placebo per week for 12 weeks. Before and after supplementation, we assessed serum 25-hydroxy-vitamin-D3 (25(OH) D3), glycaemic indices (insulin, haemoglobin A1c, fasting blood glucose (FBG) and homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR)), lipid profile and liver function tests. Results Baseline variables were not significantly different between groups. The present study indicated that over the 12 weeks, vitamin D supplementation significantly increased serum 25(OH) D3 (p<0.001), and also significantly decreased FBG (p=0.006), and HOMA-IR (p=0.001). Conclusions Vitamin D supplementation significantly improves FBG and HOMA-IR as well as serum 25(OH) D3 in patients with cirrhosis. Trial registration number The protocol of the study was registered at the Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials (IRCT) (IRCT20140502017522N2).

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is an association between obesity and psychological disorders such as depression, anxiety, and stress. Environmental factors and genetics play a crucial role in this regard. Several long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are involved in the pathophysiology of the nervous system. Additionally, we intend to investigate how dietary glycemic index and load relate to psychological disorders in women with obesity and overweight by identifying the possible interaction with metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) and taurine upregulated gene 1 (TUG1). METHODS 267 overweight or obese women between the ages of 18 and 48 were recruited for the current study. A reliable and validated food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) consisting of 147 items assessed food consumption, glycemic load (GL), and glycemic index (GI). Depression-Anxiety-Stress Scales (DASS-21) were used to assess mental well-being. A real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to assess transcript levels for lncRNAs MALAT1 and TUG1. RESULTS In obese and overweight women, a positive correlation was found between anxiety and MALAT1 mRNA levels (P = 0.007, CC = 0.178). Age, energy intake, physical activity, total fat, income, marriage, thyroid, and BMI were adjusted, and GI and TUG1 were positively correlated on DASS-21 (β = 0.006, CI = 0.001, 0.01, P = 0.031), depression (β = 0.002, CI = 0.001, 0.004, P = 0.019), Stress (β = 0.003, CI = 0.001, 0.005, P = 0.027). The interaction of GL and TUG1 on stress was also observed (β = 0.03, CI = 0.001, 0.07, P = 0.048). CONCLUSIONS The lncRNA TUG1 appears to be associated with depression and stress through interaction with GI and correlated with stress by interaction with GL. To establish this concept, further research is required.

Abstract
BACKGROUNDS Dietary potassium can play an important role in decreasing inflammatory factors as a protective factor for cancers. In this case-control study, we aimed to assess the possible association between dietary potassium intake and the risk of breast cancer (BC) among Iranian adult women. METHODS The present case-control study was conducted at Shohada and Imam Hossain hospitals, in Tehran. The study included 134 newly diagnosed cases of BC and 267 controls. A validated semi-quantitative 168-item food frequency questionnaire was used to compute the potassium intake. Logistic regression, adjusted for potential confounders, was used to estimate odds ratios(ORs) and 95% confidence intervals(CI) of BC according to tertiles of potassium intake. RESULTS The mean(M) ± standard deviation(SD) of age and body mass index (BMI) were 47.9 ± 10.3 years and 29.4 ± 5.5 kg/m2, respectively. Also, the M ± SD of potassium intake for the control and case groups was 1616 ± 293 and 1542 ± 338 (mg/1000 Kcal), respectively. In the multivariable-adjusted model for potential confounders, the higher total potassium intake was associated with decreased odds of BC (OR: 0.35, 95%CI: 0.19-0.62, P for trend < 0.001). Moreover, an inverse relationship was observed between potassium from plant sources (OR: 0.39, 95%CI: 0.22-0.69, P for trend = 0.001) and fruit and vegetable sources (OR: 0.49, 95%CI: 0.28-0.87, P for trend = 0.016) and odds of BC. CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggested that diet rich in potassium may have a predictive role to reduce the odds of BC.

Abstract
Background Proper nutrition is a crucial factor in preventing osteoporosis, a significant pathological cause linked to skeletal weakness; this study investigated the relationship between dietary diversity score and food group diversity score with osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Methods This case-control study was conducted on 378 menopausal women aged 45-85 in Tehran, Iran. The age-matching method to control the confounding effect of age was used. The method of dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) was used for assessing the bone mineral density of lumbar vertebrae and femoral neck. The bone mass status was evaluated with WHO criteria. All subjects were divided into the osteoporosis group and the non-osteoporosis group according to their T-score. A convenience sampling method was utilized to select the participants, which included two groups: case (n = 189) and control (n = 189). Data was collected using demographic and anthropometric information questionnaires, a valid 147 item food frequency questionnaire, and a physical activity questionnaire. Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS-26, and p-values less than 0.05 were deemed to be statistically significant. Results The results indicated significant differences in weight, body mass index, physical activity, smoking, and alcohol use between the two groups. The mean ± standard deviation of dietary diversity score (DDS) was lower in participants with osteoporosis (case) (3.31 ± 1.26) than in control (4.64 ± 1.33) (p < 0.001). The mean ± standard deviation of diversity score of cereals, fruits, and vegetables in the osteoporosis group (respectively: 0.71 ± 0.21, 0.94 ± 0.76, and 0.45 ± 0.44) was less than the control group (respectively: 0.80 ± 0.21, 1.64 ± 0.55 and 0.87 ± 0.42) (p < 0.001). After adjusting the confounding variables, the risk of osteoporosis had an inverse relationship with the diversity score of vegetable (OR = 0.16; 95%CI: 0.07-0.35), bread and cereal (OR = 0.21; 95% CI: 0.05-0.87) and fruit (OR = 0.35; 95%CI: 0.22-0.56) (p < 0.05). Nevertheless, no discernible correlation was seen between the tertiles of DDS, dairy and meat diversity score, and osteoporosis. Conclusion We found a correlation between the diversity score of fruits, vegetables, and grains and osteoporosis. However, there is no significant correlation between the DDS triads and the diversity score of dairy products and meats with osteoporosis.

Abstract
Cardiometabolic risk factors increase the chance of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) and type 2 diabetes. Most CVD risk factors are influenced by total and regional obesity. A higher risk of developing CVD may be linked to vitamin D deficiency, which is more prevalent in the older population. With the goal of evaluating the association between vitamin D and cardiometabolic risk factors and total and regional obesity in older adults, this research included 25 (OH) vitamin D3 concentrations and biochemical markers associated with cardiometabolic diseases, as well as total and regional adiposity, which was measured by DXA. A total of 1991 older participants in the PoCOsteo study were included. Overall, 38.5% of participants had vitamin D deficiency. After adjusting for confounders, the results of multiple linear and logistic regression suggested an inverse association between vitamin D and body mass index (P = 0.04), waist circumference (P = 0.001), total fat (P = 0.02), android fat (P = 0.001), visceral fat (P < 0.001), subcutaneous fat (P = 0.01), trunk fat (P = 0.006), arm fat (P = 0.03), high systolic blood pressure (P = 0.004), high total cholesterol (P < 0.001), high LDL-cholesterol (P < 0.001), high serum triglycerides (P = 0.001), and high fasting glucose (P < 0.001). Additionally, higher vitamin D concentrations decreased the risk of dyslipidemia by 2%. Our results showed a significant association between serum vitamin D and a number of cardiometabolic risk factors, including total and regional obesity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Time spent in sleep, sedentary behaviour (SB), and physical activity are exhaustive and mutually exclusive parts of a 24-h day that need to be considered in a combination. The aim of this study was to identify validated self-reported tools for assessment of movement behaviours across the whole 24-h day, and to review their attributes and measurement properties. METHODS The databases PubMed, Scopus, and SPORTDiscus were searched until September 2023. Inclusion criteria were: (i) published in English language, (ii) per-reviewed paper, (iii) assessment of self-reported time spent in sleep, SB, and physical activity, (iv) evaluation of measurement properties of all estimates across the full 24-h day, and (v) inclusion of adolescents, adults, or older adults. The methodological quality of included studies was assessed using the Consensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement Instruments checklist. RESULTS Our search returned 2064 records. After studies selection, we included 16 articles that reported construct validity and/or test-retest reliability of 12 unique self-reported tools - eight questionnaires, three time-use recalls, and one time-use diary. Most tools enable assessment of time spent in sleep, and domain-specific SB and physical activity, and account that sum of behaviours should be 24 h. Validity (and reliability) correlation coefficients for sleep ranged between 0.22 and 0.69 (0.41 and 0.92), for SB between 0.06 and 0.57 (0.33 and 0.91), for light-intensity physical activity between 0.18 and 0.46 (0.55 and 0.94), and for moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity between 0.38 and 0.56 (0.59 and 0.94). The quality of included studies being mostly fair-to-good. CONCLUSIONS This review found that only a limited number of validated self-reported tools for assessment of 24-h movement behaviours are currently available. Validity and reliability of most tools are generally adequate to be used in epidemiological studies and population surveillance, while little is known about adequacy for individual level assessments and responsiveness to behavioural change. To further support research, policy, and practice, there is a need to develop new tools that resonate with the emerging 24-h movement paradigm and to evaluate measurement properties by using compositional data analysis. Abstract
Considering that carbohydrates play an important role in supplying the body with energy and exhibit diverse mechanisms that can either prevent or stimulate cancer, we hypothesize that the quality of carbohydrate intake may be associated with cancer risk, including lung cancer. This hospital-based case-control study was conducted on 135 newly diagnosed lung cancer patients, and 237 healthy age- and sex-matched hospitalized controls. We used a valid and reliable 148-item Food Frequency Questionnaire to collect the dietary intake of subjects. Multivariate logistic regression was used to estimate the association between carbohydrate quality indices and the odds of lung cancer. After adjustment for confounding variables, the high glycemic index appears to be an increased risk factor for lung cancer [odds ratio (OR) = 2.51, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.28-4.91]. No statistically significant association was found between glycemic load and lung cancer (OR = 2.51, 95% CI: 0.98-6.43). In contrast, the carbohydrate quality index (OR = 0.23, 95% CI: 0.11-0.48) and low-carbohydrate diet score (OR = 0.17, 95% CI: 0.08-0.36), were associated with a decrease in the risk of lung cancer. In summary, our study showed that a high glycemic index is a risk factor for lung cancer, however carbohydrate quality index and low-carbohydrate diet score is a dietary approach to reduce the risk of lung cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is associated with DNA methylation and lifestyle. The effects of DNA methylation on GDM, and the interaction between DNA methylation and lifestyle factors are not well elucidated. The objective of this study was to explore the association between GDM, DNA methylation and lifestyle factors. METHODS A nest case-control design was performed. Sociodemographic data, dietary intake and daily physical activity information of pregnant women were collected. Bisulfate pyrosequencing was used to detect the DNA methylation level of PPARGC1A, HLA-DQA1, and ADCY3 genes. The differences of DNA methylation levels between the GDM group and the control group were compared. The correlation between clinical characteristics, dietary, physical activity and DNA methylation level was analyzed. RESULTS A total of 253 pregnant women were enrolled, of which, 60 participants (GDM: 30; control: 30) were included in the final analysis. There were no significant differences in DNA methylation levels of six methylated sites between the two groups in this study (P > 0.05). Daily intake of potato and poultry were associated with DNA methylation level of the CpG 1 site of the ADCY3 gene in all participants and the control group (P < 0.05). Duration of folic acid intake before pregnancy was correlated with the methylation level of the CpG 1 site of the ADCY3 gene in all participants (r = 0.341, P = 0.04) and the control group (r = 0.431, P = 0.025). Daily oil intake was correlated with the methylation level of CpG 2 (r = 0.627, P = 0.016) and CpG 3 (r = 0.563, P = 0.036) of PPARGC1A in the GDM group. CONCLUSION The association between the DNA methylation levels and GDM wasn't validated. There were associations between dietary and DNA methylation in pregnant women. A large-sample-sized and longitudinal study is warranted to further investigate the impacts of lifestyle on DNA methylation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Metabolic syndrome (MetS) as a multifactorial disorder is associated with non-communicable diseases. The dietary approaches to stop hypertension (DASH) diet is a healthy dietary pattern. We investigated the effect of the DASH diet on fatty liver and cardiovascular risk factors in subjects with MetS. METHODS 60 Subjects with MetS were assigned into the intervention group (DASH diet) or the control group (a healthy diet). Fatty liver index (FLI), hepatic steatosis index (HSI), waist circumference (WC), weight, body mass index (BMI), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) were evaluated at the beginning and after intervention. Equations of fatty liver indices such as FLI and HSI are based on liver enzymes, anthropometric variables, sex and having diabetes. RESULTS 30 subjects in the intervention group and 29 subjects in the control group completed the study. We found a significant reduction in the intervention group compared to the control group in FLI (-13.06 ± 10.03 vs. -2.90 ± 6.82;P < 0.001), HSI (-2.72 ± 2.59 vs. -0.81 ± 3.80;P = 0.02), WC (-6.02 ± 4.24 vs. -2.24 ± 4.28;P = 0.001), weight (-3.39 ± 2.53 vs. -1.51 ± 2.72;P = 0.008), BMI (-1.25 ± 0.93 vs. -0.56 ± 1.01;P = 0.008), DBP (-5.16 ± 3.92 vs. -1.50 ± 7.04;P = 0.01), SBP (-6.97 ± 8.21 vs. -1.36 ± 6.83;P = 0.006), TG (-18.50 ± 14.32 vs. 0.60 ± 23.81;P < 0.001), TC (-16.10 ± 17.94 vs. -5.07 ± 23.62;P = 0.04) and LDL-c (-13.50 ± 9.58 vs. -4.90 ± 18.28;P = 0.02). These results remained significant after adjusting for confounding factors, except for TC (P = 0.25). CONCLUSIONS The DASH diet was more effective than the control diet in managing fatty liver and cardiovascular risk factors. Abstract
BACKGROUND The relationship between the dietary insulin index (DII) and the disease's risk is unknown, despite the fact that hyperinsulinemia is presumed to contribute to osteoporosis. The insulin response of various diets determines the DII. This study aimed to investigate the connection between postmenopausal Iranian women's adherence to a diet with a higher insulinemic potential and osteoporosis. METHODS A total of 380 postmenopausal women were included in the current case-control study. A 168-item food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) with established validity and reliability was used to evaluate individuals' daily calorie intake. The standard formula was employed to determine the dietary insulin load of each product. Subsequently, the calculation of DII was performed by dividing the dietary insulin load by the total energy consumed for each individual. In order to investigate the relationship between osteoporosis and DII, logistic regression was implemented. RESULTS The results of the current study demonstrated a substantial inverse relationship between osteoporosis and the DII, even after accounting for confounding variables (OR = 0.927; 95% CI = 0.888-0.967). The mean scores of DII (P < 0.001) was significantly higher in control group (36.82 ± 8.98) compared to the case group (33.53 ± 6.28). CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that keeping a diet high in insulin index and low in foods that are insulinogenic may improve bone mass density. Consequently, it may be essential for postmenopausal women to consume nutrients that stimulate insulin production in order to prevent osteoporosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Falls are a common cause of fractures in older adults. This study aimed to investigate the factors associated with spontaneous falls among people aged ≥ 60 years in southern Iran. METHODS The baseline data of 2,426 samples from the second stage of the first phase of a prospective cohort, the Bushehr Elderly Health (BEH) program, were included in the analysis. A history of spontaneous falls in the year before recruitment was measured by self-report using a standardized questionnaire. Demographic characteristics, as well as a history of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, low back pain, Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, depression, and cancer, were measured using standardized questionnaires. A tandem gait (heel-to-toe) exam, as well as laboratory tests, were performed under standard conditions. A multiple logistic regression model was used in the analysis and fitted backwardly using the Hosmer and Lemeshow approach. RESULTS The mean (standard deviation) age of the participants was 69.34 (6.4) years, and 51.9% of the participants were women. A total of 260 (10.7%, 95% CI (9.5-12.0)%) participants reported a spontaneous fall in the year before recruitment. Adjusted for potential confounders, epilepsy (OR = 4.31), cancer (OR = 2.73), depression (OR = 1.81), low back pain (OR = 1.79), and osteoarthritis (OR = 1.49) increased the risk of falls in older adults, while the ability to stand ≥ 10 s in the tandem gait exam (OR = 0.49), being male (OR = 0.60), engaging in physical activity (OR = 0.69), and having high serum triglyceride levels (OR = 0.72) reduced the risk of falls. CONCLUSION The presence of underlying diseases, combined with other risk factors, is significantly associated with an increased risk of falls among older adults. Given the relatively high prevalence of falls in this population, it is crucial to pay special attention to identifying and addressing these risk factors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Regarding the role of insulin and insulin-inducing dietary factors in some cancers' etiology, we hypothesized that the risk of colorectal cancer may be lessened by following a lower carbohydrate and insulinogenic diet. Therefore, we performed this study to explore the association between a low-carbohydrate diet and insulin indices and the odds of colorectal cancer. METHOD This hospital-based case-control study was conducted on 150 newly diagnosed colorectal cancer patients and 300 healthy age- and sex-matched hospitalized controls. A valid and reliable food frequency questionnaire was used to calculate the insulin indices and low-carbohydrate diet score. Multivariate logistic regression was used to estimate the association between insulin indices and low-carbohydrate diet and the odds of colorectal cancer. RESULT After adjusting for potential confounders, individuals in the highest tertile of insulin indices had a higher risk of colorectal cancer (OR insulin index = 3.46; 95% CI, 2.00-5.96; OR insulin load = 2; 95% CI, 1.17-3.41). No association was found between a low-carbohydrate diet and colorectal cancer (OR = 1.55; 95% CI, 0.85-2.84). CONCLUSION Current results demonstrated that a high insulinemic diet was associated with a higher risk of colorectal cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mounting evidence revealed that an imbalance of Gut Microbiota (GM) leads to metabolic disorders. Synbiotics through regulation of GM composition can be an effective intervention in the management of metabolic diseases. This study aimed to investigate the effects of multi-species synbiotic supplementation on serum interleukin10 (IL-10) and fecal Short Chain Fatty Acids (SCFAs) in patients with dyslipidemia. METHODS In this double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial, fifty-six adult men with dyslipidemia were randomly allocated to intervention and control groups and received either synbiotic or placebo powder twice a day for 12 weeks. Each synbiotic sachet contained 6 species of probiotic microorganisms with a total dose of 3 × 1010 Colony Forming Unit (CFU) and 5 gr inulin and Fructooligosaccharide (FOS) as prebiotics. Blood and stool samples were collected at the baseline and end of the study. Dietary intake, physical activity, anthropometric measurements, serum IL-10, and fecal SCFAs were assessed before and after the intervention. RESULT There were no significant differences between the baseline characteristics of patients in the two groups. Serum IL-10 was increased in the synbiotic group (p < 0.0001). Moreover, synbiotic supplementation increased fecal concentration of acetate (p < 0.0001), butyrate (p = 0.043), propionate (p < 0.0001), and valerate (p < 0.026). A significant positive correlation was observed between the changes in fecal butyrate level and serum IL-10 concentration in the control group (r = 0.48, p = 0.01). CONCLUSIONS A Twelve-week synbiotic supplementation increased fecal SCFAs and improved inflammation in adult men with dyslipidemia.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dairy consumption is associated with many health benefits. However, to our knowledge, no clinical trials examined the effects of milk protein concentrate (MPC) on metabolic health in overweight and obese adults. This study investigated the effect of supplementation with MPC on glycaemic status, lipid profile, biomarkers of inflammation, and anthropometric measurements in women with obesity under a weight loss diet. METHODS This is a single-blind, open-labelled, parallel-group, randomized trial. Forty-four healthy women with obesity were randomized into a control (n = 22) or MPC (n = 22) group. Participants in the MPC group were supplemented with 30 g of MPC per day for 8 weeks. Both groups were on a calorie-restricted diet plan with 800 Kcal lower intakes than their needs. Blood samples, dietary intake, and body composition were assessed before and after the intervention. RESULTS MPC group had a significantly lower body mass index (P = 0.009), waist circumference (P = 0.013), fat mass (P = 0.021), appetite score (P = 0.002), fasting blood sugar (P < 0.001), insulin (P = 0.027), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (P = 0.025), and leptin (P = 0.014) levels and higher high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (P = 0.001) and adiponectin (P = 0.032) compared to the control group after supplementation. Lean body mass, total cholesterol, and triglyceride did not differ significantly (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION Daily intake of 30 g of MPC for 8 weeks may improve several anthropometric and metabolic markers in women with obesity under a hypocaloric diet.

Abstract
Background The association between osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease, two major health problems, has been reported in some studies. In this study was aimed to investigate the relationship between osteoporosis and the CVD risk score based on Framingham and American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association (ACC/AHA) prediction models in the population over 60 years old. Methods A cross-sectional analysis was conducted on data from 2389 men and women participating in the Bushehr Elderly Health (BEH) program. Osteoporosis was defended as T-score ≤ - 2.5 at any site (total hip, femoral neck and lumbar spine (L1-L4). Based on Framingham and ACC/AHA risk scores, participants were categorized as non-high risk (< 20%) or high-risk (≥ 20%). Logistic regression model, was applied to investigate the relationship between osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease risk scores. All comparisons were stratified by sex. Results Considering the cut point of ≥ 20% for CVD risk, 36.7% of women and 66.2% of men were categorized as having high risk of CVD in ACC/AHA model. These values in women and men based on the Framingham model were 30% and 35.7%, respectively. In general, there was a negative significant correlation between BMD in the femoral neck, total hip and TBS except for the spine with the CVD risk score in both models. After adjusting for confounding variables, a significant positive association was observed between osteoporosis only at femoral neck with CVD risk score ≥ 20% based on ACC/AHA in both genders. Conclusion The ACC/AHA model is effective in identifying the CVD risk difference between individuals with and without osteoporosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to investigate the association of osteosarcopenia with frailty and poor health conditions among older Iranian adults. METHODS This cross-sectional study analyzed data from the Bushehr Elderly Health Program. Osteosarcopenia was defined as the presence of osteopenia/osteoporosis and sarcopenia, while the Fried criteria were used to assess frailty. We assessed the history of falls and health-related quality of life (HRQoL), including physical and mental component summaries (PCS and MCS, respectively), history of fractures, activities of daily living (ADL), and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL), as indicators of poor health conditions. RESULTS This study included a total of 2,371 older adults. The prevalence rates of osteosarcopenia-only, frailty-only, and osteosarcopenia with frailty were 17.4%, 3%, and 4.8%, respectively. The prevalence of a history of falls, poor ADL, and poor IADL was significantly higher in the frailty-only and osteosarcopenia with frailty groups. Osteosarcopenia with frailty was significantly associated with a history of falls (adjusted odds ratio [adjOR]=1.94; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.20-3.15), poor ADL (adjOR=2.85; 95% CI, 1.81-4.50), and poor IADL (adjOR=5.09; 95% CI, 2.85-9.11). However, the frailty-only group also showed an association with falls and poor ADL and IADL. Only osteosarcopenia was associated with an increased OR for fracture. Frailty had the greatest effect on the MCS and PCS scores, whereas osteosarcopenia with frailty had a moderate impact. CONCLUSION Osteosarcopenia with frailty significantly increased the odds of falls, poor ADL, poor IADL, and lower HRQoL compared with the robust group. Combined osteosarcopenia and frailty were not associated with poor health. These findings indicate the importance of diagnosing osteosarcopenia and frailty as separate entities to provide appropriate interventions and treatment.

Abstract
Background Recent studies have addressed the possible role of long non-coding RNAs (lnc-RNAs), Metastasis-Associated Lung Adenocarcinoma Transcript 1 (MALAT1), and Taurine Upregulated Gene 1 (TUG1), in modulating the underlying mechanisms of obesity-related metabolic abnormalities. However, studies are limited and contradictory. Hence, we sought to investigate the relationship of the transcript level of these two lnc-RNAs with metabolic syndrome (MetS)-related parameters in women with obesity and overweight. Method This cross-sectional study was conducted on 342 women with obese and overweight. We conducted assessments encompassing anthropometric measurements, body composition analysis, fasting blood sugar (FBS) levels, lipid profile analysis, insulin levels, HOMA-IR index, and liver enzyme profiling. A quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to evaluate transcript levels of MALAT1 and TUG1. Also, a 147-question semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) were used to evaluate food intake and physical activity, respectively. Results There was a significant association between FBS and MALAT1 transcript level (β: 0.382; 95% CI: 0.124, 0.640; P = 0.004). Also, there was a significant association between triglyceride (TG) and MALAT1 transcript level (β: 4.767; 95% CI: 2.803, 6.731; P < 0.0001). After adjusting for age, BMI, energy intake, and physical activity, an inverse significant association was observed between high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) and MALAT1 transcript level (β: -0.325; 95% CI: -0.644, -0.006; P = 0.046). Conclusions Our findings indicated positive associations between mRNA levels of MALAT1 and MetS-related parameters, including FBG, TG, HDL, and systolic blood pressure in overweight and obese women. Abstract
PURPOSE Various risk factors are mentioned for osteoporosis, sarcopenia, and osteosarcopenia. Our aim is to assess the impacts of anti-diabetic drugs on these disorders. METHODS To perform this study, the participants' data was extracted from the Bushehr Elderly Health (BEH) program in Iran. Afterward, the data were categorized into three subgroups: osteoporosis, sarcopenia, and osteosarcopenia, based on WHO and European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP-2) working group definitions. Demographic characteristics, anthropometric measures, past medical history, and current medications were recorded. Pearson chi-squared and simple/multiple logistic regression using Python (3.11.4) and R (4.3.1) programming software assessed the association between anti-diabetic agents and these bone disorders. RESULTS Out of 1995 participants, 820, 848, and 404 had osteoporosis, sarcopenia, or osteosarcopenia, respectively. Among all types of anti-diabetic drugs, a significant protective association between osteoporosis and consumption of second-generation sulfonylureas was found; Adjusted Odd Ratio (AOR) = 0.65 ([95% CI: 0.45-0.94], p-value = 0.023). No associations were found between sarcopenia and consumption of anti-diabetic agents. A significant association was observed between using Meglitinides and the risk of osteosarcopenia; AOR = 4.98 ([95% CI: 1.5-16.55], p-value = 0.009). CONCLUSION In conclusion, a protective association between consumption of second-generation sulfonylureas and osteoporosis was found. Moreover, a positive association was found between the consumption of meglitinides and osteosarcopenia. However, to support these findings, further studies are recommended.
