Abstract
BACKGROUND Decision-making in spine surgery is continuously shaped by advancements in the field through evidence-based medicine. This is demonstrated through the evolution of the quality and impact of scientific research within the field of spine surgery. To date, there is limited literature investigating interval changes in methodological rigor of scientific investigation within the field of spine surgery. METHODS The top 100 cited articles were recorded for manuscripts from January 1, 2013, to December 31, 2023, and the top 100 most cited manuscripts of all time for spine surgery, via the Scopus abstract and citation database. Data collected included year of publication, article type, level of evidence , methodological index for non-randomized studies (MINORs)/(Physiotherapy Evidence Database(PEDro) Scale. RESULTS Most studies for all-time cohort (33.8%) were reported as level IV and over the last decade (41.1%) were level III. The average MINOR scores for comparative studies was 18.1 for the all-time cohort and 15.7 for the decade cohort (P < 0.05). The average MINORs scores for noncomparative studies were 9.7 for the all-time cohort and 8.98 for the decade cohort (P = 0.278). The average PEDro score was 0.72 for the all-time cohort and 0.61 for the decade cohort (P > 0.05). The number of level IV studies decreased from 33.8% in the all-time cohort to 12.3% in the last decade with increases in level II studies from 0% all-time to 6.85% in the last decade (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS An overall increase in the level of evidence over time within the field of spine surgery was demonstrated with an associated decreased methodologic rigor within recent nonrandomized investigations. A focus on enhancing the quality of investigation is prudent to guide evidence-based practice in spine surgery.

Abstract
PURPOSE The spine research within India has seen significant advancement, yet detailed examinations of its impact and evolution still need to be made sparse. To conduct a comprehensive scientometric review of the most frequently cited papers in Indian spine research from 1995 to 2024, aiming to map the field's evolution and its global impact. METHODS Utilizing the Scopus database, a search was performed with keywords related to spine research, identifying 105 highly cited papers. This study focused on trends in publications, document types, affiliations, collaboration networks, and citation patterns. RESULTS The period between 2005 and 2014 saw a significant increase in publications, with a notable emphasis on international collaborations, especially with the United States and Canada. Clinical research, particularly on the lumbar spine and surgical advancements, emerged as the primary focus. The average citations per document stood at 102.37, with original research articles constituting 73.33% of the total. Collaboration spanned across 31 countries, with the United States being the foremost partner. Indian institutions like Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore, and the All India Institute of Medical Science, New Delhi, were among the top contributors. Indian authors, notably with S. Rajasekaran leading, followed by AK Jain. CONCLUSION The findings highlght the pivotal role of Indian spine research in contributing to the global knowledge base, highlighting significant areas of strength and opportunities for future research. The study offers valuable insights for researchers, policymakers, and healthcare planners, aiming to enhance spinal health care in India and internationally.

Abstract
Many articles have been published on actinic keratosis. Bibliometric analysis helps identify the most influential studies in a particular field, Our article was to identify the 100 most frequently cited references on actinic keratosis through bibliometric analysis. As of March 1, 2020, actinic keratosis was searched in the Web of Science database and ranked in order of the total number of citations. The top 100 most cited articles in actinic keratosis were analysed. The top 100 most cited articles on actinic keratosis were published between 1982 and 2020. The largest number of articles were published in a single interval in 2001-2005. The average annual citations increased first and then decreased. The total citations were positively correlated with annual citations. The 100 articles were classified into different research focuses: pathogenesis (33%), treatment (24%), clinical features and diagnosis (15%), pathophysiology (8%), epidemiology (5%), associated diseases (2%) and others (13%). Among these 100 articles, 5 were clinical trials, 14 focused on the association between actinic keratosis and P53, and 9 reported the association between actinic keratosis and 5-aminolevulinic acid. The 100 articles were published in 38 journals by 87 different first corresponding authors from 15 different countries, mostly in the USA and Australia. Stockfleth, E from the University of Berlin published the most articles as the corresponding author. The top 100 cited references of actinic keratosis were identified and their bibliometric characteristics were analysed to lay a foundation for further research.

Abstract
Bibliometry is a popular research method that is used to explore and analyze large volumes of data in an effort to highlight trends, patterns, and impacts within a specific field. This review aimed at highlighting the characteristics and citation patterns of the high-impact bibliometric research studies that were published in the neurosurgical literature. Using PubMed and Google Scholar, the 50 (52 due to identical citation numbers for the lowest three articles) most cited bibliometric research publications were identified and reviewed. Information relating to the articles' publication and bibliometric features were retrieved. The articles' citation numbers were collected. The median article age and journal impact factor (IF) were eight years and 2.76, respectively. The majority of studies were published in World Neurosurgery and the Journal of Neurosurgery, which were the publishing journals for 18 (35%) and 12 (23%) articles, respectively. Twenty-six (50%) articles were first authored by researchers from the United States of America (USA). The highest bibliometric component was science mapping, which was the theme in 30 (58%) articles. The majority of the bibliometric focus was clinical topics/fields (22 (42%) articles) and neurosurgeons/departments (21 (40%) articles). The most popular bibliometric metric was the h-index (±variants), which was employed in 22 (42%) articles. The median size of analyzed data was 188, and the most frequently utilized databases were Scopus (22 (42%) articles) and Web of Science (21 (40%) articles). The median (range) citation numbers were 52 (29-238). The citation analysis showed significantly higher citation numbers for older articles (aged ≥ 8 years) and studies published in the Journal of Neurosurgery. The citation rates were not influenced by the size of the data, the searched databases, or the bibliometric features. In conclusion, the most cited bibliometric research publications in the neurosurgical literature were predominantly descriptive analyses of clinical topics/fields and performance analyses of neurosurgeons/departments. Their citation numbers were relatively modest and were positively influenced by the publication's age and by a specific publishing journal but not by the bibliometric features of the study. Bibliometric research provides useful analytic tools that can be utilized in review studies and other practical purposes such as scholarly practices and policy decision-making.

Abstract
Introduction The creation of research groups and consortiums has become more common in all medical and surgical specialities. The purpose of this investigation was to assess and describe collaborative research groups and consortiums within orthopaedic surgery. In addition, we aimed to define the demographics of the research consortium members with particular attention to female and minority members. Methods Journals with a musculoskeletal/orthopaedic focus and a few medical journals were selected to identify articles published by research groups and consortiums. Articles published from 2020 to 2022 were manually reviewed. Bibliographic information, author information and level of evidence (LOE) were recorded. For identified consortium members, sex and race were defined in a binary manner. Results A total of 92 research consortiums were identified. A list of members was identified for 77 groups (83.7%), totalling 2,260 researchers. The remaining group members were not able to be identified due to the lack of information in the included publications, research group websites or after communicating with the corresponding author for respective articles. Most researchers were male (n=1,748, 77.3%) and white (n=1,694, 75%). Orthopaedic surgeons comprised 1,613 (71.4%) identified researchers. The most common fellowship training for orthopaedic surgeons was paediatrics (n=370, 16.4%), trauma (n=266, 11.8%) and sports medicine (n=229, 10.1%). The consortiums published 261 articles: women were lead (first) authors in 23% and senior (last) authors in 11.1%. Non-white researchers were lead authors in 24.5% (n=64) and senior authors in 17.2% (n=45). The most common level of evidence was level 3, accounting for 45.6% (n=119) of all publications. Level 1 evidence accounted for 12.6% (n=33) of published articles. Discussion Representation of women in orthopaedic research consortiums exceeds their representation in almost every orthopaedic professional society. There is less publicly available data to compare the involvement of under-represented minorities (URMs) in research consortiums to general practice. Further investigations should analyse possible avenues in which gender and racial disparity could be improved within orthopaedic surgery research.

Abstract
Over the past decades, there has been ongoing effort to develop complex biomimetic tissue engineering strategies for in vitro cultivation and maintenance of organoids. The defined hydrogels can create organoid models for various organs by changing their properties and various active molecules. An increasing number of researches has been done on the application of hydrogels in organoids, and a large number of articles have been published on the topic. Although there have been existing reviews describing the application of hydrogels in the field of organoids, there is still a lack of comprehensive studies summarizing and analyzing the overall research trends in this field. The citation can be used as an indicator of the scientific influence of an article in its field. This study aims to evaluate the application of hydrogels in organoids through bibliometric analysis, and to predict the hotspots and developing trends in this field.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With the rapid development of science and technology, artificial intelligence (AI) has been widely used in the diagnosis and prognosis of various spine diseases. It has been proved that AI has a broad prospect in accurate diagnosis and treatment of spine disorders. METHODS On May 7, 2022, the Web of Science (WOS) Core Collection database was used to identify the documents on the application of AI in the field of spine care. HistCite and VOSviewer were used for citation analysis and visualization mapping. RESULTS A total of 693 documents were included in the final analysis. The most prolific authors were Karhade A.V. and Schwab J.H. United States was the most productive country. The leading journal was Spine. The most frequently used keyword was spinal. The most prolific institution was Northwestern University in Illinois, USA. Network visualization map showed that United States was the largest network of international cooperation. The keyword "machine learning" had the strongest total link strengths (TLS) and largest number of occurrences. The latest trends suggest that AI for the diagnosis of spine diseases may receive widespread attention in the future. CONCLUSIONS AI has a wide range of application in the field of spine care, and an increasing number of scholars are committed to research on the use of AI in the field of spine care. Bibliometric analysis in the field of AI and spine provides an overall perspective, and the appreciation and research of these influential publications are useful for future research.

Abstract
Stem cell therapies have become widely popular in orthopaedic surgery, with a recent interest in adipose-derived therapeutics. Adipose-derived mesenchymal signaling cells (ADSCs) and micronized adipose tissue (MAT) are unique therapies derived from different processing methods. Characterizing the most influential studies in lipoaspirate research can help clarify controversies in definitions, identify core literature, and further collective knowledge for educational purposes. The Science Citation Index Expanded subsection of the Web of Science Core Collection was systematically searched to identify the top 50 most cited publications (based on citation/year) on orthopaedic ADSCs or MAT research. Publication and study characteristics were extracted and reported using descriptive statistics. Level of evidence was assessed for applicable studies, and Spearman correlations were calculated to assess the relationship between citation data and level of evidence. The top 50 articles were published between the years 2003 and 2020, with 78% published in the year 2010 or later. The mean number of citations was 103.1 ± 81.1. The mean citation rate was 12.4 ± 6.0 citations per year. Of the 21 studies for which level of evidence was assessed, the majority were level III (10, 47.6%). The single study design most common among the top 50 cited articles was in vitro basic science studies (17 studies, 34%). Twenty-nine articles (58%) were classified as basic science or translational. Application to treat knee osteoarthritis was the most common focus of studies (14 studies, 28%), followed by in vitro analysis of growth factor and cell signaling markers (11 studies, 22%). No correlation was found between rank, citation rate, or year of publication and level of evidence. This study provides a current landscape on the most cited articles in lipoaspirates in orthopaedic surgery. With the expansion of ADSCs and MAT in the past two decades, this study provides the first historical landmark of the literature and a launching point for future research. Studies should explicitly state their processing methodology and whether their study investigates ADSCs or MAT to avoid misinformation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Spine surgery has advanced in concert with our deeper understanding of its elements. Narrowly focused bibliometric analyses have been conducted previously, but never on the entire corpus of the field. Using big data and bibliometrics, we appraised the entire corpus of spine surgery publications to study the evolution of the specialty as a scholarly field since 1900. METHODS We queried Web of Science for all contents from 13 major publications dedicated to spine surgery. We next queried by topic [topic = (spine OR spinal OR vertebrae OR vertebral OR intervertebral OR disc OR disk)]; these results were filtered to include articles published by 49 other publications that were manually determined to contain pertinent articles. Articles, along with their metadata, were exported. Statistical and bibliometric analyses were performed using the Bibliometrix R package and various Python packages. RESULTS Eighty-five thousand five hundred articles from 62 journals and 134 707 unique authors were identified. The annual growth rate of publications was 2.78%, with a surge after 1980, concurrent with the growth of specialized journals. International coauthorship, absent before 1970, increased exponentially with the formation of influential spine study groups. Reference publication year spectroscopy allowed us to identify 200 articles that comprise the historical roots of modern spine surgery and each of its subdisciplines. We mapped the emergence of new topics and saw a recent lexical evolution toward outcomes- and patient-centric terms. Female and minority coauthorship has increased since 1990, but remains low, and disparities across major publications persist. CONCLUSION The field of spine surgery was borne from pioneering individuals who published their findings in a variety of journals. The renaissance of spine surgery has been powered by international collaboration and is increasingly outcomes focused. While spine surgery is gradually becoming more diverse, there is a clear need for further promotion and outreach to under-represented populations.

Abstract
Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory disease that frequently results in disability. It has a negative impact on patients' quality of life and puts an enormous budgetary and societal burden on society. The most effective treatment for AS has grown to be a significant issue worldwide. In order to pinpoint research focus and trends in this region, we performed a bibliometric analysis of the top 100 cited papers in this study. We searched the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-Expanded) on the Web of Science (WOS) and selected the top 100 cited papers based on AS. The pertinent literature from various years, journals, nations/regions, institutions, authors, keywords, and references were then examined. To construct knowledge maps, we used the VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and Scimago Graphica programs. Excel was then used to compile the information from the pertinent literature that we had retrieved, and we were able to make predictions about the focus and trends that were currently occurring in the field. Between 1999 and 2019, the top 100 cited papers appeared in 23 journals from 36 different nations and regions. Annals of the rheumatic diseases published the majority of the articles, while Lancet had the highest average number of citations per paper. Germany contributed the most publications, followed by the Netherlands and the USA. In terms of the total number of publications, Rheumazentrum Ruhrgebiet contributed the most papers, followed by University Hospital Maastricht and Leiden University. The three major categories are Rheumatology, Medicine, General & Internal, and Genetics & Heredity, whereas the top 5 co-occurrence of keywords included rheumatoid arthritis, double-blind, disease activity, efficacy, and infliximab. The cluster analysis results indicate that inflammation and immunology, safe and effective therapies, and placebo-controlled trials may be focus and trends for future AS research. Bibliometric analysis can swiftly and visually identify the focus and boundaries of AS research. Our findings imply that inflammation and immunology, safe and effective therapies, and placebo-controlled trials may be focus and trends for future AS research.

CONCLUSION By using bibliometric analysis, MPX researchers can quickly and visually identify their research focus and boundaries. Although studies suggest that antiviral medicine is the best treatment, creating an effective vaccine might lessen and avoid MPX pandemics in the long term. Our findings imply that safe and effective vaccines may be the focus and trends for future MPX research. International coordination for case monitoring and identification is essential to understand monkeypox disease's ever-changing epidemiology.

Abstract
Purpose Bibliometric analysis is a common method for evaluating current trends within a scientific field. The primary aim of this study was to define and analyze the 50 most frequently cited articles in the field of elbow surgery, both of all time and those published during the 21st century. Methods We searched the Journal Citation Report to identify articles related to elbow surgery within academic journals. Articles were sorted by total citations. The overall top 50 articles and those published since 2000 were identified, and data were collected, including title, journal of publication, publication year, country of publication, citation density, level of evidence, article type, institution, and sex of the lead and senior authors, and inclusion on the reference list for the Orthopaedic In-Training Examination within the last 5 years. Descriptive statistics were reported, and correlation analysis was performed using Spearman test. Results For the most-cited elbow surgery articles, "fracture" was overall the most reported topic, whereas "lateral epicondylosis" and "fracture" were equal for those published since 2000. The United States was the most represented overall and for articles published since 2000. Women comprised 1/50 (2%) of lead authors overall, increasing to 8/50 (16%) for articles published during the 21st century. Most articles in during both periods contained level IV evidence, with level I evidence appearing infrequently (4%). Six percent of the most-cited articles of all time had appeared on the reference list of the Orthopaedic In-Training Examination within the past 5 years. Conclusions The top 50 most-cited elbow surgery articles often assess fracture and lateral epicondylosis, most commonly originating from the United States. Level IV retrospective series comprises over half of the articles on this list. Women remain underrepresented as authors. Clinical Relevance This study provides a modern reading list for upper-extremity surgeons about impactful elbow surgery articles.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze the top 100 cited articles in nonspecific neck pain (NSNP) research. A set of search terms was entered into the Web of Science database, and the articles with the highest citation counts in the field of NSNP were chosen. The top 100 articles were examined for total citation count, annual citations count, first author, year of publication, journal, study design, and country of origin. The citation count for the list final articles ranged from 181 to 2067, with an average of 291.9. The journal Spine contributed the most articles (25), followed by pain (16). Between 2001 and 2010, the most prolific years, 66 articles were published. In terms of country of origin, the majority of articles were from Australia (22). Vernon H., published the most cited article in the Journal of Manipulative & Physiological Therapeutics in 1991, reporting the first instrument developed to assess self-reported disability in patients with neck pain. The bibliographic analysis to identify the top 100 most cited articles related to NSNP acknowledges the field historical advances and provides insight into the types of articles that have provided these advances.

Abstract
Background There have been several papers published about pemphigus. Bibliometric analysis is useful in determining the most significant research in a certain topic. By bibliometric research, we were able to determine the 100 most frequently reference articles in pemphigus. Aims and Objective Using bibliometric tools to find and evaluate the top 100 most reference papers in pemphigus. Materials and Methods On 19 February 2023, the Web of Science database was utilized to launch a title-specific search. Publications were listed in degrading order on the basis of their total citations. We examined the top 100 most reference pemphigus publications. Results The years of publication varied from 1971 to 2020, with the 1990s being the most active. According to diverse study objectives, the 100 publications were separated into clinical aspects and diagnosis (20%), pathophysiology (52%), therapy (13%), epidemiology (8%), related disorders (1%) and others (6%). The 100 papers were published in 37 different publications. The top 100 reference articles included 54 first authors of 11 nations, most of whom came from North America and Europe. Stanley, J R, from Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, was the principal author. Conclusions A thorough bibliometric research of the top 100 publications in pemphigus was provided by the research, which may be useful for future research.

Abstract
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), beginning in December 2019, has spread worldwide, leading to the death of millions. Owing to the absence of definitive treatment, vaccination against COVID-19 emerged as an effective strategy against the spread of the pandemic. Acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccine has advanced considerably, and vaccine-related research has significantly increased over the past three years. This study aimed to evaluate the content and external characteristics of COVID-19 vaccine-related literature for tracking research trends related to the global COVID-19 vaccine with the means of bibliometrics and visualization maps. A total of 18,285 records in 3499 journals were retrieved in the Web of Science Core Collection database and included in the final analysis. China was the first to focus on COVID-19 vaccine research, while European and American countries started late but developed rapidly. The USA and the UK are the top contributors to COVID-19 vaccine development, with the largest number of publications. The University of Washington and Harvard Medical School were the leading institutions, while Krammer, F. from Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai was the author most active and influential to the topic. The New England Journal of Medicine had the highest number of citations and the highest TLS, and was the most cited and influential journal in the field of COVID-19 vaccine research. COVID-19 vaccine research topics and hotspots focused on populations' attitudes towards vaccination, immunity-related information analysis of spike proteins, the effectiveness and side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine, and the public management of epidemic transmission. The findings of this study provide the global status, research hotspots and potential trends in the field of COVID-19 vaccine research, which will assist researchers in mastering the knowledge structure, and evaluating and guiding future developmental directions of COVID-19 vaccine.

Abstract
Whiplash injury is a common diagnosis and causes substantial economic burden. Numerous papers have been published to provide new insights into whiplash injury. However, so far there has not been a comprehensive analysis of the most influential publications on whiplash injury. This study aimed to determine the 100 most cited publications on whiplash injury and analyze their characteristics. A keyword search was conducted using the Web of Science database. The top 100 cited publications relevant to whiplash injury were gathered. The main characteristics including title, year of publication, citation, authorship, journal, country, institution, and topic were generated. The number of citations of the top 100 cited publications ranged from 82 to 777. Fifteen countries contributed the top 100 publications. Australia had the largest number of publications (26), followed by the United States (21), and Canada (12). The majority of the publications were from Europe (40) and North America (33). A total of 19 institutions and 17 authors published more than one publication. The University of Queensland (16) and the author Sterling M (7) had the leading publication record. This is the first citation analysis to identify and characterize the highest impact researches on whiplash injury. The present analysis provides the most influential studies on whiplash injury, and reveals the leading journals, counties, institutions, and authors with special contributions in this filed. The list may serve as an archive of historical development of whiplash injury and a basis for further research.

This bibliometric analysis intended to recognise the top 100 cited articles in minimally-invasive cardiac surgery, to determine the fundamental subject areas that have borne considerable influence upon clinical practice and academic knowledge whilst also considering bibliometric scope. This is increasingly relevant in a continually advancing specialty and one where minimally-invasive cardiac procedures have the potential for huge benefits to patient outcomes.
Methods The Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics) data citation index database was searched with the following terms: [Minimal* AND Invasive* AND Card* AND Surg*]. Results were limited to full text English language manuscripts and ranked by citation number. Further analysis of the top 100 cited articles was carried out according to subject, author, publication year, journal, institution and country of origin. Results A total of 4716 eligible manuscripts were retrieved. Of the top 100 papers, the median (range) citation number was 101 (51–414). The most cited paper by Lichtenstein et al. (Circulation 114(6):591–596, 2006) published in Circulation with 414 citations focused on transapical transcatheter aortic valve implantation as a viable alternative to aortic valve replacement with cardiopulmonary bypass in selected patients with aortic stenosis. The Annals of Thoracic Surgery published the most papers and received the most citations (n = 35; 3036 citations). The United States of America had the most publications and citations (n = 52; 5303 citations), followed by Germany (n = 27; 2598 citations). Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, published the most papers of all institutions. Minimally-invasive cardiac surgery pertaining to valve surgery (n = 42) and coronary artery bypass surgery (n = 30) were the two most frequent topics by a large margin. Conclusions This work establishes a comprehensive and informative analysis of the most influential publications in minimally-invasive cardiac surgery and outlines what constitutes a citable article. Undertaking a quantitative evaluation of the top 100 papers aids in recognising the contributions of key authors and institutions as well as guiding future efforts in this field to continually improve the quality of care offered to complex cardiac patients.

Abstract
Objective This study aimed to analyze the top 100 most cited papers and research trends on endometrial carcinoma via bibliometric methods. Methods On the 1st of March 2022, the top 100 most cited papers regarding endometrial carcinoma published from 1971 to 2021 were identified through searching Web of Science Core Collection database and the following data: title, author, journal, publication year, country and institution were extracted. Microsoft Office Excel (2019) was used for descriptive statistical analysis. VOSviewer (1.6.18) was used to perform and visualize co-authorship analysis and co-occurrence analysis. Results These 100 papers were cited a total of 45, 685 times, and the mean number of citations was 456.85 (range, 228 to 2487). Most papers were published between 1996 and 2000, and between 2006 and 2010. The Lancet published the largest number of papers (n=12), followed by Gynecologic Oncology (n=11). Most of the papers were from the United States (n=58), followed by Italy (n=8) and Netherlands (n=7). Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, University of California San Francisco and University of Southern California (all in United States) contributed the most papers (n=4, respectively). Nicoletta Colombo contributed the most papers (n=3) as the corresponding author. The co-occurrence keywords were classified into three clusters: cluster 1 (epidemiology study), cluster 2 (molecular biology study) and cluster 3 (clinical treatment study). Early research that was published prior to 2005 in this field was mainly focused on epidemiology and molecular biology; the mean publication year for keywords in cluster 3 was later than other clusters. The keywords “external-beam radiotherapy,” “uterine serous carcinoma,” and “intermediate-risk” showed relatively later mean publication year and lower mean frequency of occurrence. Conclusions This study provides medical researchers with bibliometric information relating to endometrial carcinoma. Our results show that the United States is a clear leader in this field. The clinical treatment of endometrial carcinoma has received increasing levels of attention over recent years and is likely to remain a major area of research in the future. Meanwhile, it is recommended to pay attention to potential research hotspots, such as external-beam radiotherapy, uterine serous carcinoma and intermediate-risk.

Abstract
Osteoporosis has become a major public health problem and bisphosphates treatment for osteoporosis is a rapidly developing research field. Every year, plenty of studies devoted to the treatment of osteoporosis are published, giving clinicians a new perspective on bisphosphates treatment for osteoporosis. However, the quality of the scientific papers in this area is unclear. The aim of the present study was to characterize the 100 top-cited articles regarding bisphosphates treatment for osteoporosis. This analysis provides an accessible list for practitioners of endocrinology, pharmacy, epidemiology, imaging, surgery, and scientific research to identify the most frequently cited literature and better understand the future direction.

Abstract
COVID-19, which occurred at the end of December 2019, has evolved into a global public health threat and affects every aspect of human life. COVID-19's high infectivity and mortality prompted governments and the scientific community to respond quickly to the pandemic outbreak. The application of personal protective equipment (PPE) is of great significance in overcoming the epidemic situation. Since the discovery of severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), bibliometric analysis has been widely used in many aspects of the COVID-19 epidemic. Although there are many reported studies about PPE and COVID-19, there is no study on the bibliometric analysis of these studies. The citation can be used as an indicator of the scientific influence of an article in its field. The aim of this study was to track the research trends and latest hotspots of COVID-19 in PPE by means of bibliometrics and visualization maps.

Abstract
The bibliometric analysis uses the citation count of an article to measure its impact in the scientific community, but no study has been undertaken to determine the most influential papers in the field of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC). This study aimed to investigate the global research interest regarding PBC in dentistry using a bibliometric approach. We searched the Web of Science Core Collection database to find the top 100 most cited (T100) articles focusing on PBC. The information about each article including citations, authors, journals, countries, institutions, and keywords was recorded for bibliometric analysis. The T100 articles related to PBC were published from 1983 to 2019 and were originated from 26 countries. A total of 805 different authors were from 342 different institutions, and articles written by them were published in 35 journals. The five most frequently occurring keywords were "biochemical response," "ursodeoxycholic acid," "primary biliary cirrhosis," "antimitochondrial antibody," and "autoimmunity." The T100 articles were classified into different research focuses: pathogenesis (41%), treatment (20%), prognosis (12%), epidemiology (9%), diagnosis (8%), and others (10%). These 100 articles included 32 observational studies, 29 basic research articles, 15 reviews, eight meta-analyses, 12 clinical trials, and four clinical guidelines. The 100 top-cited articles are marked with the leading countries, institutions, journals, hotspots, and development trends in the PBC field that could provide the foundation for further investigations.

Abstract
Objective
Giant cell arthritis (GCA) is a type of vasculitis which is more common in female gender and is closely associated with Polymyalgia rheumatic. One of its important complication include visual impairment. The burden of disease is expected to be very high by 2050 and there is a need to compile the data on most influential studies on GCA to define future strategy to deal with this dangerous disease. Bibliometrics is a statistical analysis of published literature that reflects the value and impact of a particular publication within the specific field. Aim of our study is identify the most significant contributors and their quality of contribution in the field.
Method
We conducted this analysis utilizing SCOPUS database using different related MeSH terms. After a detailed screening, the list of top-50 articles were presented in the results in descending order of their ranks on the basis of their total number of citation. Most of our data comprises of publications from 1971–2012.
Result
The top-50 most cited articles on GCA were published between 1971 and 2012 with the median number of citations 274 ranging from 598–187.
Annals of Internal Medicine
was the top ranked journal with 13 publications from the list. The highly ranked author based on the number of publications was
Hunder GG
(20 publications) with h-index of 40, retaining affiliation with Mayo Clinic, Rochester, United States.
Mayo Clinic
was the most frequently mentioned institute among the affiliations. The United States was found to be the most productive country rendering most of the articles (64%).
Conclusion
Our bibliometric analysis on Giant cell arteritis identifies the information which may direct future research contributions, identify field experts, guide researchers to fill knowledge gaps, and assist in research fund allocation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Kidney transplantation (KT) has become common in the treatment of end-stage renal disease. However, to date, there have been no bibliometric analyses of KT research to identify the most influential articles. The purpose of this research is to identify and characterize the 100 most cited articles that focus on KT and to clarify the trends in the accomplishments in this field. METHODS We searched the Thomson Reuters Web of Science citation indexing database and used keyword mapping of VOSviewer. The top 100 most cited manuscripts were analyzed based on their titles, authors, institutions, countries of origin, years of publication, and topics. RESULTS The New England Journal of Medicine has published the most manuscripts on kidney transplantation (n = 26) and is the most cited journal (n = 15,642). The United States has the highest number of publications (n = 61). Kashika is the corresponding author with the most published papers (n = 5; 2892 citations). The most common topics of publication are immunosuppressant (n = 34), clinical outcome (n = 26), and pathology (n = 22). Keywords related to immunosuppressant are the most common in keyword mapping with VOSviewer. CONCLUSIONS This bibliometric analysis of KT research provides the research characteristics and publication trends of this topic. In KT research, immunosuppressants and post-transplant clinical outcomes have been important topics.

Abstract
Introduction Despite growth in hand/upper extremity investigation, impactful studies have not been thoroughly identified. Previous studies have been limited in scope. This study sought to identify and characterize the most impactful orthopaedic papers in hand/upper extremity over the past 25 years. Materials and Methods The top 1,000 hand/upper extremity orthopaedic studies published from 1992 to 2017 were identified with Web of Science. After screening for relevance in order of decreasing citation number, the top 100 articles were identified for bibliometric analysis. Results The mean number of authors and citations were 4.51 (range, 1-21) and 169.4 (range, 105-863). Common study types included, case series ( n = 52), randomized controlled trial ( n = 17), and prospective cohort ( n = 16), which predominantly covered topics related to shoulder ( n = 34), wrist/forearm ( n = 21), and hand ( n = 17). Among wrist/forearm and hand studies, distal radius fractures ( n = 12) and nerve-related topics ( n = 10) were most frequently analyzed. Most studies were of level IV ( n = 51) and level II ( n = 16) evidence. Recent studies had greater impact (mean citations/year: 2011, 82.7/year vs. 1992, 16.1/year). Conclusion Most of the 100 top orthopaedic articles in hand/upper extremity were of level IV or II evidence, retrospective, and nonrandomized. Despite an observed recent increase in level I studies, a lack of prospective, randomized trials is apparent.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN A bibliometric review of the literature. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to identify the most highly cited articles relating to cervical myelopathy and to analyze the most influential articles. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA Over the past several decades, a lot of research has been conducted regarding the subject of cervical myelopathy. Although there are a large number of articles on this topic, to our knowledge, this is the first bibliometric analysis. METHODS A selection of search terms and keywords were inputted into the "Dimensions" database and the most highly cited articles in cervical myelopathy were selected from high impact factor journals. The top 100 articles were analyzed for year of publication, authorship, publishing journals, institution and country of origin, subject matter, article type, and level of evidence. RESULTS The 100 most cited articles in the topic of cervical myelopathy were published from 1956 to 2015. These articles, their corresponding authors, and number of citations are shown in Table 1. The number of citations ranged from 121 times for the 100th article to 541 times for the top article in a total of 20 journals. The most common topic was operative technique, whereas the journals which contributed the most articles were the Spine journal and the Journal of Neurosurgery. CONCLUSION Our study provided an extensive list of the most historically significant articles regarding cervical myelopathy, acknowledging the key contributions made to the advancement of this field.Level of Evidence: 5.

Abstract
Background: Neuropathic pain research has grown impressively in the past two decades, as evidenced by improvements in research quality and increments in the number of research papers. In views of this situation, the use of quantitative measurements to analyze and characterize existing research has become imperative. The aim of this research is to identify and analyze the 100 most-cited papers in neuropathic pain research. Methods: Neuropathic pain-related articles published between 2000 and 2020 were screened from Web of Science (WOS) by using the following subject terms: TI = (Neuralgia$ OR Neurodynia$ OR “Neuropathic pain” OR sciatica OR “Nerve pain$”). The publications were ranked in a descending order on the basis of citation counts, and the top 100 most-cited neuropathic pain papers were determined. Subsequently, we conducted a bibliometric study to determine the authors, journals, countries, and institutions that contributed the most to the top 100 neuropathic pain lists; describe the keywords and hotspots of the top 100 most-cited papers; and explore the factors associated with successful citations. Results: The top 100 most-cited papers were published from 2000 to 2017, and 2003 had the largest number of published papers (n = 16). The mean number of citations per paper was 480.72, with a range of 262–1,569. Forty-four kinds of journals contributed to the top 100 most-cited papers, which were predominantly published in “Pain” (n = 23). The USA was determined to be the leader of neuropathic pain research in terms of quality and quantity. Conclusion: This study provides a comprehensive list of the most influential papers on neuropathic pain and demonstrates the important advances in this field to help understand academic concerns and the directions of technological innovations in neuropathic pain worldwide.

Abstract
Background Spine-related research continues to evolve rapidly and in the paradigm of increasing data, evidence-based practice becomes imperative. Citation-based rankings are thus critical in allowing clinicians to quickly ascertain the importance and value of a study. The purpose of this article is to report on the 10 most cited articles in the field of spine surgery over the last 10 years to provide an insight into the direction of research and clinical endeavors. Methods Google Scholar was searched (1st April 2021) using an algorithm that sorts all cited spine surgery publications based on the number of citations per year. The top 10 most cited articles were identified. Information including journal, publication title, published year, subspecialty, and purpose of the study were compiled. Results The top 10 publications ranged from 471 to 66 citations, with yearly citations ranging from 67 to 14. Eight articles directly related to lumbar fusion, 2 related to 3D Printing in spinal surgery, and one article on robotic surgery. There were 4 retrospective studies, 1 randomized controlled trial (RCT), and 2 systematic reviews. 3 of the papers related to decision making in surgery, 4 on outcomes of surgery, and 3 on innovations in surgery. The journal that appeared most frequently in the top 10 list was the Journal of Spine Surgery. Discussion Novel surgical approaches or management strategies are almost always a manifestation of advancements in clinical and basic science research. Algorithm-based identification of highly cited articles provides an effective and prompt avenue for evidence-based medicine. Our ranking found a predominance of publications related to lumbar spinal fusion. Several articles in the top 10 provide an in-depth discussion on novel surgical techniques and technologies that define the current epoch of innovations in spine surgery.

Abstract
Intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) techniques are usually implemented during spine surgery to avoid nefarious abuse of the nervous system, which can cause postoperative problems. A lack of bibliometric analysis on the topic of IONM in spine surgery has been identified. Therefore, the aims of this study are to provide information about the main contributors to this field and their publication dynamics, as well as conceptual and cooperative networks. Results have shown that a steady publication increase has been occurring since 1991, with high levels of citations in the first decade, but irregular publication rates have been recorded more recently. Research production by country seems to be in line with what is observed in other surgical fields, but research funding for IONM in spine surgery seems to be lower, even with the clear interest of private funding agencies. The conceptual networks have shown the importance of motor-evoked potential, electromyography, and the effect of anesthesia, particularly in scoliosis surgery.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN A bibliometric review of the literature. OBJECTIVE Our objective was to identify and analyze the 100 most-cited publications in the field of endoscopic spine surgery (ESS). METHODS In order to determine the top cited 100 articles, a 3-step approach was employed. First, the 100 most-cited ESS studies were identified using the key phrase "endoscopic spine surgery." Then, 8 keywords were identified from the 100 studies of step 1 were used to conduct a second round searching in all databases of the Web of Science. Finally, when the results of the first and second steps were overlapped, duplicated studies were removed. The 100 top-cited articles were used for further analysis. RESULTS The citation number of the top 100 most-cited articles ranged from 44 to 236 with a mean value of 84.4. The most productive periods were from 2001 to 2010. The majority of publications came from Spine and Neurosurgery, where Spine holds the largest number of 35 articles, followed by Neurosurgery with 13 articles. Overall, 10 countries contributed to the 100 articles, with the most productive country being the United States, followed by Germany and Korea. CONCLUSION This bibliometric study is meant to produce a list of intellectual milestones in the field of ESS. This article's identification of the most influential articles in the field of ESS gives us a unique and comprehensive insight into the development of ESS in the past several decades.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To date, no study has used bibliometric analysis to review the most influential articles in lumbar spinal stenosis. The objective of this study was to identify and analyze the characteristics and the level of evidence of the 100 most cited articles on lumbar spinal stenosis METHODS: The Thomson Reuters Web of Science was accessed to find the 100 most cited articles on lumbar spinal stenosis. For each article, we recorded the number and density of citations, authors, country, journals and years, department, level of evidence, type of study, and if it was part of any multicenter studies. RESULTS Until January 2017, the 100 most cited articles accumulated 11,136 citations (average: 259.05/y), ranging individually between 442 and 50 (average: 111.36). The first reference was published in 1974 in Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research. Therapeutic studies (n = 40), the 1990s (n = 46), United States as country of origin (n = 51), Harvard University as institution (n = 16), Katz JN as author (n = 10), and Spine as journal (n = 48) have the hegemony. Many were multicenter (n = 42) and using level 2 evidence (n = 49). There is an inverse relationship between citation index and long-standing studies, maintenance of those most cited, and a temporary advance toward better levels of evidence. CONCLUSION This bibliometric analysis reveals a good level of evidence in the published clinical series and includes 100 articles useful for the approach of lumbar spinal stenosis.

Abstract
Background Traumatic injury to the spine can be a complex diagnostic and therapeutic entity often with devastating consequences. Outside of the isolated vertebral column injury costs; annual costs associated with spinal cord injury (SCI) are estimated to exceed $9.7 billion. Objective To identify the 100 most-cited articles on spine trauma. Methods The Thomson Reuters Web of Science citation indexing service was queried. The articles were sorted by times cited in descending order. Two independent reviewers reviewed the article titles and abstracts to identify the top 100 most-cited articles. Results The top 100 articles were found to be cited between 108 (articles #99-100) and 1595 times (article #1). The most-cited basic science article was cited 340 times (#12 on the top 100 list). The oldest article on the top 100 list was from 1953 and most recent from 2012. The number of patients, when applicable, in a study ranged from 9 (article #34) to 34,069 (article #5). Top 100 articles were published in 41 different journals with a wide range of specialities and fields most commonly multidisciplinary. Basic science research encompassed 34 of the 100 articles on the list. Conclusions We present the 100 most-cited articles in spinal trauma with emphases on important contributions from both basic science and clinical research across a wide range of authors, specialties, patient populations, and countries. Recognizing some of the most important contributions in the field of spinal trauma may provide insight and guide future work.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Bibliometric analysis is the quantitative measure of the impact of a scientific article in its respective field of research. The aim of this study was to identify and analyze the main features of the top 50 most cited articles published in the Journal of Endodontics since its inception as well as the top 50 most downloaded articles in 2017 and 2018 in order to evaluate the changing trends and other bibliometric parameters of the contemporary literature compared with the classic literature. METHODS An electronic search was conducted on the Clarivate Analytics Web of Science "All Databases" to identify and analyze the top 50 most frequently cited scientific articles. After ranking the articles in a descending order based on their citation counts, each article was then crossmatched with the citation counts in Scopus, Google Scholar, and PubMed. RESULTS The citation counts of the 50 selected most cited articles ranged between 218 and 731 (Clarivate Analytics Web of Science). The years in which most top 50 articles were published were 2004 and 2008 (n = 5). Among 131 authors, the greatest contribution was made by M. Torabinejad (n = 14). Most of the articles originated from the United States (n = 38) with the greatest contributions from the School of Dentistry, Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, CA (n = 15). Basic research-technology was the most frequent study design (n = 18). A negative, significant correlation occurred between citation density and publication age (correlation coefficient = -0.708, P < .01). CONCLUSIONS Several interesting differences were found between the main characteristics of the most cited articles and the most downloaded articles.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The bibliometric analysis uses the citation count of an article to measure its impact in the scientific community, yet there is still no comprehensive summary of gastric disease researches via bibliometric analysis. We aimed to evaluate the situations and trends of the most cited articles in gastric disease via bibliometric analysis and to provide physicians a practical guide in assessing the most influential articles written on this subject. METHODS The 100 top-cited articles in gastric disease were compiled using Web of Science. The articles selected were evaluated for their number of citations, year of publication, country of origin, type of study, and others. RESULTS The database had 484,281 articles published between 1965 and 2019. The most cited article received 4,017 citations and the least received 604, with a mean of 1,149 citations. We classified the articles into seven categories: gastric cancer (n = 53), Helicobacter pylori (n = 17), ulcer (n = 7), gastrointestinal stromal tumors (n = 6), gastritis (n = 5), gastric bypass surgery (n = 2), and others (n = 10). Altogether, 69 of the articles were from the USA (n = 41), the UK (n = 17), and Japan (n = 11). Among all the institutions, Royal Perth Hospital led the list with 5 articles. One-quarter of authors owned three or more of these top-cited articles. The 100 papers were published in 33 journals, and most of them were clinical researches (n = 47). CONCLUSIONS Our study provides a historical perspective for the scientific progress of gastric disease, and the articles of significant findings that contributed great impact on the prevention and treatment of gastric disease had been identified.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Bibliographic analysis. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study is to identify the most cited studies on lumbar spondylolisthesis and report their impact in spine field. METHODS Thomson Reuters Web of Science-Science Citation Index Expanded was searched using title-specific search "spondylolisthesis." All studies published in English language between 1900 and 2019 were included with no restrictions. The top 100 cited articles were identified using "Times cited" arranging articles from high to low according to citation count. Further analysis was made to obtain the following items: article title, author's name and specialty, country of origin, institution, journal of publication, year of publication, citations number, study design. RESULTS The citation count of the top 100 articles ranged from 68 to 589. All published between 1932 and 2016. Among 20 journals, Spine had the highest number of articles (49), with citation number of 6155 out of 13 618. Second ranked was Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery with 15 articles and total citations of 3023. With regard to the primary author's specialty, orthopedic surgeons contributed to the majority of top 100 list with 82 articles, and neurosurgery was the second specialty with 11 articles. The United States had produced more than half of the list with 59 articles. England was the second country with 7 articles. Surgical management of degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis was the most common discussed topic. CONCLUSION This article identifies the top 100 influential articles on lumbar spondylolisthesis and recognizes an important aspect of knowledge evolution served by leading researchers as they guided today's clinical decision making in spondylolisthesis.

Abstract
Objective To use bibliometric analysis to understand characteristics and trends in the research on chronic venous disease (CVD), which affects patients’ quality of life by causing pain, swelling, and ulceration. Methods We searched the Thomson Reuters Web of Science citation indexing database to identify the 100 most-cited manuscripts on CVD. The resulting articles were analyzed by title, author, institution, topic, year of publication, and country of origin. Results The Journal of Vascular Surgery published the most manuscripts on CVD (n = 36) and was the most-cited journal (n = 5356). The United Kingdom was the country with the greatest number of publications (n = 32). Imperial College London was the institution with the highest number of publications (n = 6). Endovenous thermal ablation was the most widely studied research specialty (n = 30). Conclusions Our analysis showed that the majority of CVD research is carried out in Western countries, and that the number of research studies is increasing in line with recent advances in CVD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Atlantoaxial spine surgery is a challenge to spinal surgeons because of its proximity to neurovascular structures. This study aimed to identify and analyze the scientific publications in atlantoaxial spine surgery from different countries and institutions. METHODS Clarivate Analytics Web of Science was used to search all articles for information on atlantoaxial spine surgery. The annual research, countries, journals, authors, institutions, citation frequency, and journal metrics were extracted. These results from countries and hotspots (keywords in publications) were subjected to co-occurrence analysis using VOSviewer, after which the top 100 most-cited articles were analyzed further. RESULTS A total of 3161 articles were included. A trend toward an increasing number of publications on atlantoaxial spine surgery in recent years was evident. Among all countries, the United States contributed the most publications. Seth Gordhandas Sundarda Medical College had the highest number of publications among institutions. Among all research categories, fixation and fusion were the most common areas discussed. The screw-rod system described in the most-cited article (cited 823 times) appeared to be the most popular fixation method. With the development of C1 and C2 screw technology, the screw-rod system is becoming increasingly popular. CONCLUSIONS The atlantoaxial spine surgery literature has grown continuously in recent years. The United States is the largest contributor in this field. Fixation and fusion are the most common areas, and fixation-related studies should be closely followed. The screw-rod fixation system is becoming increasingly popular.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Bibliometric analysis. OBJECTIVES To identify the 100 most cited orthopedic papers in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) over the past 25 years and characterize them by study type, topic, and country and assess study quality (design, level of evidence, and impact factor) to provide an updated account of the most impactful AIS evidence. AIS represents a three-dimensional deformity that drives a significant number of investigations. Although available evidence continues to grow, recent impactful studies pertaining to AIS have not been identified; their quality has not been thoroughly assessed. METHODS Web of Science was reviewed to identify the top 1000 cited AIS studies published from 1992 to 2017. Articles were organized by number of citations. Titles and abstracts were screened for inclusion/relevance, and the top 100 articles by citation count were identified, and study and publication characteristics were extracted. RESULTS Among the top 100 articles, 42 were cited ≥ 100 times. Mean number of authors and citations of these studies was 5.6 and 118.3, respectively. Study types were predominantly retrospective (n = 53), followed by prospective (n = 18), cross-sectional (n = 13), and systematic review/meta-analysis (n = 7). Topics covered in these studies included clinical/patient outcomes (n = 47), methodology/validation (n = 22), basic science (n = 15), radiographic analyses (n = 12), and gait/biomechanics (n = 4). Most studies originated in the United States of America (n = 65) and were published in Spine (n = 76), with 8266 total citations. Most studies were of Level III (n = 55) or Level II (n = 23) evidence. Mean impact factor was 3.47. CONCLUSIONS Despite recent studies' shorter time frames for impact, citations of AIS research have progressively increased during the past 25 years. The top 100 cited orthopedic studies were predominantly Level III, retrospective, nonrandomized studies, and therefore, were subject to biases. The low proportion of prospective studies (18%) reflects an area of future improvement, underscoring the need for higher-quality studies to support our practice. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE N/A.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although the rib cage provides substantial stability to the thoracic spine, few biomechanical studies have incorporated it into their testing model, and no studies have determined the influence of the rib cage on adjacent segment motion of long fusion constructs. The present biomechanical study aimed to determine the mechanical contribution of the intact rib cage during the testing of instrumented specimens. METHODS A cyclic loading (CL) protocol with instrumentation (T4-L2 pedicle screw-rod fixation) was conducted on five thoracic spines (C7-L2) with intact rib cages. Range of motion (±5 Nm pure moment) in flexion-extension, lateral bending, and axial rotation was captured for intact ribs, partial ribs, and no ribs conditions. Comparisons at the supra-adjacent (T2-T3), adjacent (T3-T4), first instrumented (T4-T5), and second instrumented (T5-T6) levels were made between conditions (P ≤ 0.05). FINDINGS A trend of increased motion at the adjacent level was seen for partial ribs and no ribs in all 3 bending modes. This trend was also observed at the supra-adjacent level for both conditions. No significant changes in motion compared to the intact ribs condition were seen at the first and second instrumented levels (P > 0.05). INTERPRETATION The segment adjacent to long fusion constructs, which may appear more grossly unstable when tested in the disarticulated spine, is reinforced by the rib cage. In order to avoid overestimating adjacent level motion, when testing the effectiveness of surgical techniques of the thoracic spine, inclusion of the rib cage may be warranted to better reflect clinical circumstances.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN A bibliometric review of the literature. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to identify the most highly cited articles relating to imaging of the spine and to analyze the most influential papers and evolving trends in spinal imaging research. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA Spinal imaging is being performed with increasing frequency and is an essential step in the diagnosis and treatment planning of spinal pathology. A comprehensive review of the most influential articles in spinal imaging has not been performed, until now. METHODS A selection of search terms and keywords were inputted into the "Web of Science" database and the most highly cited articles in spinal imaging were selected from high impact factor journals. The top 100 articles were analyzed for year of publication, authorship, publishing journals, institution and country of origin, subject matter, article type, and level of evidence. In addition to total citation count, the number of annual citations was also calculated. Citation counts from Scopus and Google Scholar were also obtained for comparison across other citation index platforms. RESULTS The most highly cited articles in spinal imaging were published over 30 years, between 1983 and 2013. Total citation count ranged from 98 to 1243 with annual citation count ranging from 3.8 to 91.8. The greatest number of highly cited articles was produced in the United States (n = 49), involved magnetic resonance (n = 73) or multimodal (n = 17) imaging and focused on the lumbar spine (n = 42). The journals that contributed the most articles were Spine and Radiology each publishing 26 articles. CONCLUSION Our study provided an extensive list of the most historically significant spinal imaging articles, acknowledging the key contributions made to the advancement of this specialist field. Abstract
This study aims to study the publication trends in articular cartilage repair (ACR) techniques, over the last 10 years. A literature search was performed on the PubMed, Web of Science, and SCOPUS databases. We used suitable keywords and Boolean operators (articular cartilage injury AND "marrow stimulation OR microfracture (MFx)," "osteochondral autograft," "osteochondral allograft" and "autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI)," "scaffold"), on January 1, 2019. Trends in publication on these topics were analyzed, focusing on publications over the last 10 years, type of research, authors, institution, and country. There was an increasing trend in publications related to ACR. A search on PubMed revealed 698, 225, 293, 857, and 982 documents on searching for "articular cartilage" AND "marrow stimulation OR microfracture," "osteochondral autograft," "osteochondral allograft," "ACI," and "scaffold," respectively. Similar searches revealed 1154, 219, 330, 1727, and 2742 documents on Web of science and 934, 301, 383, 944, and 2026 on SCOPUS, respectively, in the same order of topics. Overall, most papers were published from the United States and European countries, and Cole BJ was the most published author. There was an increasing trend in the number of publications as well as citations, with international collaboration among researchers. It implies that this field is growing rapidly. The authors from globally recognized and leading clinical institutions in the developed world contributed maximally to these publications. Most of these papers were published in high-impact arthroscopy subspecialty journals. Level of evidence: Level IV.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The use of bibliometrics can help us identify the most impactful articles on a topic or scientific discipline and their influence on clinical practice. We aimed to identify the 100 most cited articles covering esophageal motility disorders and examine their key characteristics. METHODS The Web of Science database was utilized to perform the search, using predefined search terms. The returned dataset was filtered to include full manuscripts written in the English language. After screening, we identified the 100 most cited articles and analyzed them for title, year of publication, names of authors, institution, country of the first author, number of citations and citation rate. RESULTS The initial search returned 29,521 results. The top 100 articles received a total of 20,688 citations. The most cited paper was by Inoue et al. (665 citations) who first described peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) for treating achalasia. The article with the highest citation rate was the third version of the Chicago Classification system, written by Kahrilas and colleagues. Gastroenterology published most papers on the list (n=32) and accrued the highest number of citations (6,675 citations). Peter Kahrilas was the most cited author (3,650 citations) and, along with Joel Richter, authored the highest number of manuscripts (n=14). Most articles were produced in the USA (n=66) between the years 1991 and 2000 (n=32). CONCLUSIONS By analyzing the most influential articles, this work is a reference on the articles that shaped our understanding of esophageal motility disorders, thus serving as a guide for future research.

Abstract
Background Emergency Cardiac Surgery (ECS) is a component of cardiothoracic training. Citations are considered to represent a papers influence. Bibliometric analyses allow us to identify the most influential work, and future research. We aim to highlight the key research themes within ECS and determine their potential impact on cardiothoracic training. Methods Thomas Reuters Web of Science was searched using terms [Emergency AND Card* AND Surg*]. Results were ranked by citation and reviewed by a panel of cardiac surgeons to identify the top 100 cited papers relevant to ECS. Papers were analysed by topic, journal and impact. Regression analysis was used to determine a link between impact factor and scientific impact. Results 3823 papers were identified. Median citations for the top 100 was 88. The paper with the highest impact was by Nashef et al. focusing on the use of EuroSCORE (2043 citations). The Annals of Thoracic Surgery published most papers (n = 18:1778 citations). The European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery coveted the most citations (n = 2649). The USA published most papers (n = 55).The most ubiquitous topics were; risk stratification, circulatory support and aortic surgery. A positive relationship between journal impact fact and the scientific impact of manuscripts in ECS (P = 0.043) was deduced. Conclusion This study is the first of its kind and identified the papers which are likely to the contribute most to training and understanding of ECS. A papers influence is partially determined by journal impact factor. Bibliometric analysis is a potent tool to identify surgical training needs.

Abstract
Objective Citation analysis represents one of the best available methods to identify the most influential articles. This study aimed to identify and characterize the top 100 highly cited articles (T100) that focus on hepatocellular carcinoma and to reveal the trends in accomplishments within this field. Methods A search of the Thomson Reuters Web of Science citation indexing database was conducted using terms related to hepatocellular carcinoma. The T100 were selected and analyzed further based on the number of citations, authorship, year of publication, journal, country of origin, institution, and article type. Results Hepatology published the highest number of papers (n = 15), and the United States produced the highest number of contributions (n = 31). Barcelona University was the institution with the highest number of articles in the T100 (n = 9). The T100 articles included 35 observational studies, 13 randomized control studies, 25 basic research articles, 18 reviews, seven clinical guidelines, and two meta-analyses. Conclusions This is the first bibliometric study to identify the most influential papers in hepatocellular carcinoma research. This report presents major advances and changes in research regarding hepatocellular carcinoma and can serve as a guide for writing a citable article.

Abstract
Total number of citations has been considered a proxy for a published study's importance within a given field. However, there are multiple pitfalls to correlating the total number of citations alone with the quality of a study. In this review, the authors aimed to identify the top 100 most-cited studies of hip and knee arthroplasty and then assess study design and quality of reporting. More than half of these studies were level IV evidence, unblinded, not randomized, and not controlled. This underscores the need for higher-quality study design to support practice. Abstract
Objective: We conducted a citation analysis in order to catalog and pay tribute to the 100 most influential clinical research articles in traumatic spinal cord injury.Design: The Thomson Reuters Web of Science was searched in a two-step process without time period limitations. Review articles were excluded. In the first stage of data extraction, a Boolean query was used to identify the top 100 most cited clinical papers on traumatic spinal cord injury. One hundred and seven keywords were manually chosen and extracted from titles and abstracts. A second Boolean query used these keywords to broaden search results. The top 100 articles from this second stage search comprised the final list.Outcome Measures: For each article, measures evaluated were number of citations, average number of citations per year, time elapsed before first citation, and time elapsed until the year in which each article received its respective highest number of citations in a one-year period.Results: 119,991 articles were found in the second stage search. The top 100 most cited articles meeting inclusion criteria were identified within the first 2,104 results. Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation was the most represented journal, with 20 of the top 100 articles. The top 100 list averaged 255 citations per article. The most highly cited article was the NASCIS 2 trial by Bracken et al., cited 1500 times, which investigated the efficacy of methylprednisolone or naloxone for spinal cord injury.Conclusion: Clinical research in traumatic spinal cord injury has grown over time, expanding to encompass rehabilitation and experimental therapies in addition to acute management trials. The list may serve as an archive and reference for further studies in this field.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Bibliometric review of current literature. OBJECTIVE To identify and analyze the characteristics of the 100 most cited articles on idiopathic scoliosis focusing on the level of evidence. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA The scientific literature on idiopathic scoliosis has been constantly evolving, but many aspects of its true etiology, natural history, and response to treatment continue to be discussed. To date, no study has used bibliometric analysis to review the most influential articles about idiopathic scoliosis. METHODS The Thompson Reuters Web of Science was accessed to find the 100 most cited articles on idiopathic scoliosis. The number and citation density, authorship, institutions, country of origin, year of publication, source journals, type of study, topic, study design, and level of evidence were analyzed. RESULTS The 100 most frequently cited articles accumulated 13,749 citations. The number of citations ranged between 616 and 80. The 10 most cited articles represent 24.6% of all citations. The treatment of idiopathic scoliosis is the most commonly studied issue (n = 46), and specifically surgical correction (n = 36). Most studies originated in the United States (n = 62) and were published in Spine (n = 56). Almost half of the papers (n = 49) were published between 2000 and 2008. The majority of studies have a case series design (n = 35). Most of the cited articles have low levels of evidence (Level III = 36; Level IV = 35). CONCLUSION This bibliometric analysis includes the 100 most cited articles on idiopathic scoliosis, recognizing its importance as a basic milestone in today's spine knowledge. The results indicate that the evolution of the knowledge on idiopathic scoliosis has been through case reports and case series, which analyzed retrospectively today are considered to have a poor level of evidence. This observation seems to be paradoxical because they are the most influential articles on IS and had been published in the top, leading journals of spine surgery.
