The authors investigated intestinal epithelial remodeling in patients with alcohol use disorder (AUD), focusing on crypt–villus architecture, epithelial proliferation, and lineage differentiation. By integrating human duodenal biopsies, quantitative histology, multiplex immunofluorescence, multi-omics reanalysis, and patient-derived organoid models, the study provides important mechanistic insights into alcohol-induced intestinal barrier dysfunction and addresses a biologically significant question.
