It compares the continuous variables (e.g., age, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, carcinoembryonic antigen, carbohydrate antigen 19-9) between the two groups using an independent samples t-test, and the categorical variables (e.g., gender, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group score, T stage, N stage) using the χ² test. The results show that there is no statistically significant difference between the groups for any baseline characteristic (all P > 0.05), indicating that the groups are comparable.
