Figure 3 Limitations of autologous stem cell therapy in the elderly.
This figure outlines the key limitations of autologous stem cell therapy in elderly pa tients. These include reduced stem cell numbers, compromised functionality due to aging, immune and frailty-related changes, challenges in harvesting quality cells, and varied therapeutic responses. The number of stem cells decreases with age, limiting therapy options. Aged stem cells also have lower regenerative potential and changed gene expression, which decreases their therapeutic potential. Age-related frailty and immune system alterations can also impact therapy. Harvesting stem cells from elderly people is difficult and risky, which may lower cell quality. Therapy outcomes vary for older people, and physical health is a major component.
