Eight biopsy specimens taken from the lower esophagus and cardia were stained with hematoxylin/eosin, Alcian blue/periodic acid-Schiff (pH 2.5), AB/high iron diamine or Gimenez dyes. The prevalence of incomplete intestinal metaplasia (IM) was significantly higher in short-segment Barrett’s esophagus (SSBE) patients than in CIM patients (65.6% vs 19.5%, P < 0.01).
