The China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study cohort we used wave 1 as the baseline for the cohort with 4 waves of follow-up (follow-up to wave 4); the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing cohort used wave 3 as the baseline for the cohort with 4 waves of follow-up (follow-up to wave 6); and the Health and Retirement Study cohort used Wave 4 as the baseline for the cohort with 4 waves of follow-up (follow-up to wave 7).
