The patients were identified from two sources: (1) The pathological database, searched using poorly cohesive carcinoma (PCC)-related keywords; and (2) The departmental follow-up registration system for non-PCC cases. PCC was further classified into signet ring cell carcinoma (SRC) (≥ 90%), mixed SRC/PCC-not otherwise specified (NOS) (10% < SRC < 90%), and PCC-NOS (≤ 10%). Cross-validation was used to ensure that no PCC cases were wrongly classified as non-PCC cases. PCC: Poorly cohesive carcinoma; SRC: Signet ring cell carcinoma; NOS: Not otherwise specified.
