Gut microbiota dysbiosis leads to intestinal barrier dysfunction, allowing microbial components and genetic material to translocate into the circulation. The presence of circulating microbial genetic material can trigger immune activation and metabolic disturbances, thereby contributing to the pathogenesis of gestational diabetes mellitus.
