Dr. Garbuzenko is a Professor of the Department of Faculty Surgery, South Ural State Medical University, Chelyabinsk, Russia. Having received his M.D. degree from Chelyabinsk State Medical Institute in 1985, Dr. Garbuzenko undertook his postgraduate training at the Hospital Surgery Department in Chelyabinsk State Medical Academy under the instruction of Professor Yuri Malyshev (1985 to 1990). He became a lecturer of Chelyabinsk State Medical Academy in 1990. Dr. Garbuzenko defended his Ph.D. thesis and obtained his Ph.D. degree in 1991. He was an assistant of the Department of Hospital Surgery from 1991 to 1996. Since 1996, he became an assistant, then an Associate Professor (2003), and the Professor (2010) of the Department of Faculty Surgery, South Ural State Medical University. In 2008, he defended his doctoral thesis (Dr. Sci. Med.). His ongoing research interests are clinical and pathological problems associated with liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension. He is a member of the Russian Society of Surgeons, the Russian Gastroenterological Association, the International Association of Surgeons-Hepatologists, the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. He is a member of the editorial boards and a reviewer of several scientific journals, and has published about 200 peer-reviewed articles, 6 inventions, 3 monographs. Dr. Garbuzenko is a co-author of the clinical guidelines of the Russian Society for the Study of the Liver and Russian Gastroenterological Association: Management of the complications of liver cirrhosis. Currently, he is a Professor of the Department of Faculty Surgery, South Ural State Medical University, Chelyabinsk, Russia.
