Atsushi Irisawa, MD, PhD, Professor and Chairman, Department of Gastroenterology, Dokkyo Medical University, Japan. Graduated from the School of Medicine, Dokkyo Medical University in March 1989, and obtained a doctorate degree (Doctor of Medical Science) from the school of medicine, Fukushima Medical University in November 1996 (Title: EUS anatomy of esophageal varices). Professor Irisawa occupied the position of professor and director of the Department of Gastroenterology, Aizu medical center, Fukushima medical university. Since 1st April 2018, he moved to Dokkyo Medical University as a professor and Chairman of the Department of Gastroenterology. He was a visiting faculty of Center for EUS, Division of Gastroenterology, University of Florida, and worked with Professor Manoop S. Bhutani in 2000. His specialty is mainly endoscopic diagnosis and treatment for the pancreatobiliary area, especially interventional EUS and ERCP. Besides, he is a specialist in the field of portal hypertension. He plays an active part in the wide-ranging digestive disease; board of directors and/or member as a councilor in the Japanese Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society, Japanese Society of Gastroenterology, Japan Pancreas Society, Japan Biliary Society, Japanese Society of Portal Hypertension, Japanese Gastroenterological Association, Japan society for laser surgery and medicine and the international member of American Society for the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
