Ghassan Hammoud is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Division of Gastroenterology. Ghassan joined the division of Gastroenterology in September 2007. He currently serves as the Interim Director for the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Dr. Hammoud graduated from Al-Arab Medical University in Benghazi, Libya. Dr. Hammoud completed his internal medicine residency at the University of New Mexico-Albuquerque. He then obtained clinical hepatology and liver transplantation fellowship at Mayo Clinic-Rochester and GI fellowship at the University of Florida-Jacksonville. Then, he obtained his advanced therapeutic endoscopy fellowship at the University of Missouri School of Medicine, Columbia. Dr. Hammoud is board certified in Gastroenterology and in Transplant Hepatology. He also holds a certificate of added qualifications in advanced therapeutic endoscopy. Dr. Hammoud major interest is in innovative therapeutic endoscopy and hepatology. Dr. Hammoud established high complex innovative endoscopic procedures at University of Missouri School of Medicine since he joined. Among these procedures are EUS-guided therapy for pancreatic collections, endoscopic biliary/pancreatic drainage procedures, endoscopic submucosal dissection of large early GI neoplasia, endoscopic appendectomy, EUS-guided liver biopsy, endoscopic pain management, bariatric endoscopy for weight loss, and endoscopic therapy for gastroparesis. Dr. Hammoud contributed to several book chapters. Among them in Zakim and Boyer Text book of Hepatology and Maternal Liver disease. He is the authors/co-authors of several journal articles in World Journal of gastroenterology, world journal of gastrointestinal oncology, Journal of Pancreas, clinical endoscopy, Journal of Ultrasound, Gastroenterology and Hepatology journal, clinical gastroenterology and hepatology, and Hepatology journal. Dr. Hammoud is an avid teacher to our med students. He has won multiple awards for his excellence in teaching such as: Golden Apple Award, most outstanding preclinical educator award, Paul C.J Distinguished Faculty Award, excellence in teaching award, Curriculum Board Citation of Merit Award, and Curriculum Board Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award.
