Dr. Wetterling is an electrical engineer by training and graduated with a PhD in physics from Trinity College Dublin in 2010. He authored and co-authored more than twenty international peer-reviewed journal publications, and he is an advocate for non-invasive imaging technology with a main focus on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), X-ray based tomography, ultrasound, active thermography, electrocardiographic imaging (ECGI) and other evolving and innovative imaging techniques. For more than 15 years Dr. Wetterling is working in the field of complex data modelling using inverse modelling, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to robustly extract information from the inside of the human body. For establishing tissue viability imaging in stroke patients and for acquiring the world’s first whole body sodium MR image of a human he received the Siemens award from the German medical physicist association (DGMP) and the summa cum laude award of the international MRI society (ISMRM). Since 2016, he leads the data analytics efforts at FIRE1 developing a revolutionising monitoring device for heart failure patients.
