With a bachelor degree in Korea, upon his PhD in 1990 at Cornell University Graduate School of Medical Science, USA. Chul Geun Kim was nominated a permanent professorship at Department of Life Science, Hanyang University, Korea where he initiated a laboratory of molecular genetics. Over the last 20 years, he has focused his scientific interests on the topics related to regulatory mechanism of gene expression including CP2 transcription factor family-mediated erythroid specific globin gene expression, fate decision mechanism of embryonic and cancer stem cells, and action mechanism of transcription repressor MMTR/Dmap1. With his expertise in molecular genetics research, he has established a series of platforms for understanding of transcriptional regulatory mechanism, trained tens of postgraduate students, filed a dozen of patent applications, published numerous SCI journal papers and book chapters, edited/reviewed for many academic journals, coordinated/participated in several national projects, served as an evaluation expert for organizations such as National Research Foundation of Korea, and involved in many academic societies as presidents and acting chairs including the presidents of The Korean Society for the Stem Cell Research (2002-2008) and The Genetics Society of Korea (2015 president elected). Innovative, original and longstanding research has ever been a pursuit in his academic career.
