Valerio D'Orazi was born in Avezzano (AQ, Italy) on January 31, 1968. Surgeon, Specialist in General Surgery, PhD in Experimental Surgery and Microsurgery, Member of the Provincial Order of Surgeons and Dentists of Rome. On 28 July 1993 he graduated in Medicine and Surgery with a grade of 110/110 cum laude discussing a thesis entitled "Gastrointestinal carcinoid: diagnostic problems and the role of surgery" (Supervisor: Prof. F. Custureri). In November of the same year he obtained the qualification to exercise the profession of surgeon at the University of Rome "Sapienza" and in the same month he enrolled in the III School of Specialization in General Surgery of the University, at the time direct by Prof. Giorgio Di Matteo. From April '96 to March '97 he served in military service as a medical officer at the Cavalry School of Montelibretti (RM). On 20 October 1999 he obtained the Diploma of Specialist in General Surgery (New Order) with the mark of 70/70 cum laude, discussing a thesis entitled "The iatrogenic lesions of the inferior laryngeal nerve in neck surgery" (Tutor: Prof. Filippo Custureri). On 8 March 2004 he obtained the title of PhD in Experimental Surgery and Microsurgery at the University of Pavia with a thesis on "Indications and techniques of microsurgical reconstruction in iatrogenic lesions of the lower laryngeal nerve in neck surgery". From May 16, 2011 to October 31, 2014 and from March 31, 2017 to March 30, 2020 he was a temporary researcher in General Surgery (scientific-disciplinary sector Med 18) at the Department of Surgical Sciences of the "Sapienza" University of Rome. From March 31, 2020 he is permanent Associate Professor in General Surgery at the Department of Surgical Sciences of the "Sapienza" University of Rome. He is the author of over 50 papers published in national and international journals. He has performed over 4000 surgeries as first operator (until 6 June 2022) in general surgery, thyroid, parathyroid and salivary gland microsurgery, hand microsurgery, tumor and peripheral nerve microsurgery, andrological microsurgery.
