Dr. Sandro Vento is Dean and Full Professor, Faculty of Medicine, University of Puthisastra in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Having received his MD degree from the University of Bologna, Italy in 1980, he undertook his postgraduate training at S. Orsola University Hospital in Bologna and became a Specialist in Infectious Diseases in 1984. After being an Honorary Lecturer in Medicine at King's College Hospital and School of Medicine & Dentistry in London, UK, from 1988 to 2000 Dr. Vento was a Consultant in Infectious Diseases first at Pugliese Referral Hospital in Catanzaro and then at Civile Maggiore Referral Hospital, Verona, Italy. From October 2000 he was appointed Associated Professor of Infectious Diseases at the University of Verona and in June 2006 became Director of the Infectious Diseases Unit at Annunziata Referral Hospital, Cosenza, Italy. From January 2009 Dr. Vento was Full Professor and Founding Head of the Department of Internal Medicine, University of Botswana. In December 2011 he became Head of the School of Medicine, and in June 2014 Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Botswana. From January 2016 to April 2019 Dr. Vento was Full Professor and Founding Chair of the Department of Medicine at Nazarbayev University in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan and from November 2016 to April 2019 was the Medical Director of the Nazarbayev University Medical Center which included four referral hospitals. Dr. Vento's ongoing research interests are early detection of liver fibrosis and cirrhosis, optimization of antiretroviral treatment of HIV infection, viral hepatitis and autoimmune diseases. He has reviewed articles and has been/is the member of the editorial boards of numerous scientific journals, and has over 240 publications in peer reviewed journals [h-index: 42 (Google Scholar), 34 (Scopus)].
