Dr. Rajkowska is a Professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, USA. She has received her Ph.D. degree in 1986 from the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology, Warsaw, Poland. Dr. Rajkowska undertook her postdoctoral training at the Nencki Institute for 10 years and at Yale University, USA for five years. After that she moved to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, USA where she is heading a laboratory of Quantitative Neuroanatomy. While at the University of Mississippi she was promoted to Assistant Professor (1994), Associate Professor (1998) and full Professor with tenure (2002). Her ongoing research interest is the neurobiology of psychiatric disorders with the recent focus on the cell pathology in postmortem brains from patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder. Her laboratory was the first to reveal the pathology of glial cells and neurons in the prefrontal cortex in depression. She is a member of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, Society of Biological Psychiatry and Society for Neuroscience. She is a recipient of the silver, gold and platinum Award for the Excellence in Research at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She is a reviewer of few dozen scientific journals in the field of neuroscience and psychiatry, and she has published 99 per-reviewed articles. Currently, she is the Director of the Imaging Core for the Center of Psychiatric Neuroscience.
