Sanjoy Bhattacharya is a tenured Professor of Ophthalmology since 2014 with secondary appointment in Neuroscience, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Bascom Palmer eye Institute (BPEI), University of Miami. BPEI has been ranked number 1 eye institute in the US by US News and World Report for last consecutive 12 years. Dr. Bhattacharya obtained his Master's degrees in Science and Engineering respectively at Banaras HinduUniversity and his PhD in Biochemical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi in India. After a postdoctoral fellowship in Pharmacology and Therapeutics at McGill University Dr. Bhattacharya joined Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio. At McGillUniversity he made seminal discoveries in epigenomics. These discoveries were published a full article in Nature and Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences in 1999. Since 2005 his work is concentrated on neurodegenerative diseases with ocular manifestation. His group has made comprehensive assessment of ocular defects in demyelinating Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease. His group is involved in employing metabolomic and lipidomic in model systems of Glaucoma and Demyelinating diseases. His group heavily employs liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry as well as chemical derivatization-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for these studies, which are extramurally funded by Department of Defense and National Eye Institute of NIH. He is a member of one of the six team which is investigation prospect of optic nerve regeneration funded by NIH under Audacious goal initiative. He serves as an Academic Editor of PLoS One and as editorial board member of several other also journals.
