Dr. Felipe Couñago is a radiation oncologist at the Quirónsalud Madrid University Hospital and La Luz Hospital, Madrid, Spain, where he specializes in treating patients with prostate and lung cancer. He is also a professor of radiation oncology at the European University of Madrid Medical School and at the EEOR (Spanish School of Radiation Oncology). Dr. Couñago is a cum laude graduate of European University of Madrid Medical School, (Spain). He completed his residency in Radiation Oncology at the Princesa University Hospital in Madrid (Spain). Dr. Couñago is member of GICOR (research in radiation oncology), GOECP (Group for the Study of Lung Cancer), URONCOR (the Urological Tumours Working Group), GETICA (Spanish Group of Immuno-Biological Therapies in Cancer) and SEOR (Spanish Society of Radiation Oncology). He is also member of the European Society of Radiation Oncology (ESTRO). As a research pioneer in developmental multiparametric MRI of prostate cancer for radiation oncology. As the principal investigator, Dr. Couñago has initiated and conducted clinical studies to evaluate the impact of multiparametric MRI and PET/CT on treatment decisions for radiotherapy in prostate cancer. In addition, he has developed clinical studies evaluating the role of radiotherapy and targeted therapies in lung cancer. While he published original research articles, reviews and book chapters, Dr. Couñago presented at research conferences in Europe and America. His clinical interests are prostate cancer, lung cancer, hypo-fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy, multiparametric MRI, PSMA PET/CT, molecular markets and combining radiotherapy with molecular targeting and immunomodulatory agents.
