Associate Professor Tongzhi Wu is a clinical research leader at the University of Adelaide, South Australia, with a steeply rising trajectory in research on nutrient-gut interactions and type 2 diabetes. He was a top medical graduate (2009) of Southeast University (Nanjing, China), completed a University of Adelaide PhD conferred with a University Doctoral Research Medal (2013), and transformed successfully into a research group leader during his Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) Mary Overton Early Career (2015-17) and Flory (2018-20) Fellowships. In 2020, he was awarded a Mid-Career Fellowship from The Hospital Research Foundation (THRF) (2020-23) and was prompted to “Associate Professor” by the University of Adelaide. A/Prof Wu has published 84 peer-reviewed publications in this field, featuring predominantly in the leading journals in the field of diabetes, nutrition and endocrinology. He has been awarded funding from the NHMRC, Diabetes Australia, philanthropic organisations and industry for research, which has stimulated, and facilitated, the strategy of boosting the endogenous incretin hormone glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) for improved glycaemic control in type 2 diabetes.
