Soo-Cheon Chae received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Chonbuk National University, Jeonju, Republic of Korea and earned a Ph.D. degree from Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan in 1998. He trained as a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Biology of University of California San Diego, San Diego, California, USA during 1998–2001. After completing his postdoctoral research, he returned to the Republic of Korea and joined the Genomic Research Center for Immune Disorders of Wonkwang University as a Research Professor until 2006. He has been studying the genomic association between immune disorders and gene variations during this time. He found many of novel SNPs and showed their association with immune disease such as RA and IBD. He established his own laboratory in 2007 and is working on the functional analysis of target genes for microRNAs associated with colorectal cancer. Presently, he is a professor at the School of Medicine at Wonkwang University.
