Dr. Nirav Thosani earned his medical degree from N.H.L. Municipal Medical College in Ahmedabad, India. He completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in gastroenterology at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in Houston, followed by an advanced fellowship in therapeutic endoscopy at Stanford University School of Medicine in Stanford, California. Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Thosani’s clinical interests include pancreatitis, pancreatic cysts, pancreatic cancer, gallstones, bile duct diseases, colon polyps, colon cancer, endoscopic ultrasound, ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography), colonoscopy and optical endoscopic imaging. Dr. Thosani’s practice philosophy centers on providing personalized care tailored to each patient’s specific clinical problem. He takes time to explain the details of a procedure, allowing each patient to make an informed decision about care and to know what to expect. It is important to him for his patients to have both timely access to necessary procedures and  multidisciplinary care that is well coordinated. He uses the latest technology  to diagnose and treat certain types of gastrointestinal cancers and perform procedures endoscopically that were previously done surgically.  Dr. Thosani has served as member of ASGE Technology committee and he is currently a member of ASGE Standards of Practice Committee. He has also received multiple awards from the American College of Gastroenterology. Dr. Thosani is currently Atilla Ertan MD Endowed Chair in Gastroenterology of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
