After degree in Biology (University of Palermo, 2006), Dr. Miceli worked in the field of oncology both at the ARNAS-CIVICO hospital (Palermo) and at the National Cancer Institute of Milan until 2012. During this period, Dr. Miceli conducted studies on the potential role of steroid hormones in the development of breast, prostate and liver cancer. In 2012, he obtained his PhD in biopathology (University of Palermo), studying the potential role of steroid hormones and inflammation on the development of prostate cancer. In 2013, Dr. Miceli worked as researcher at Plant Genetic of the CNR (National Research Council of Palermo), carrying out a project titled "Genetic characterization of Sicilian vines through DNA and plasmid DNA analysis ". From March 2014 until today, he started as researcher at the Regenerative Medicine and Advanced Biotechnology Unit at IRCCS-ISMETT (Palermo). In the last few years, to define immunomodulatory and regenerative properties of mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (MSCs), Dr. Miceli carries out several projects regarding the characterization of: 1. placenta-derived mesenchymal and epithelial cells; 2. MSC-derived exosomes; 3. conditioned medium produced by MSCs grown as both monolayer and spheroid.
