Professor Shivananda Nayak served at the Kasturba Medical College, Manipal Academy of Higher Education-14 years and Faculty of Medical Sciences, the University of the West Indies-16 years. Professor Nayak is an Adjunct Professor Department of Biochemistry, Subbaiah Institute of Medical Sciences, Shivamogga and Shri Ramachandra University, Chennai. He has 30 years of experience in teaching Medical, Dental, and Allied Health and Pharmacy students and 25 years of experience of Research experience. He served as Head, Department of Medical Laboratory Technology, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Head of the department, Preclinical sciences and Deputy Dean for Graduate studies and research, The University of the West Indies. Professor Nayak is a recipient of best teacher award from the College of Allied Health Sciences, Manipal University, Manipal. He has received the UWI/Guardian life premium teaching award in 2010 and Vice chancellors award for excellence in teaching in 2013. First Indian to receive these two highest University level teaching awards. He is also a recipient of outstanding Preclinical lecturer award from Trinidad and Tobago Medical Students’ Association continuously for three years (2013, 2014 and 2015). The Movement for the Encouragement of Dharmic Services awarded him twice with outstanding preclinical lecturer award in 2011 and 2012 from the graduating batch of 2014 and 2015 respectively. He is a recipient of several fellowships. He is qualified with National Registry for Certified Chemists-Clinical Chemistry. He has written 9 textbooks for medical, dental, nursing and Allied health students. These books are very popular among the student community in India, Trinidad and other countries. As a Researcher he published more than 150 articles in the area of Type 2 Diabetes and wound healing in national and international journals. He has received Outstanding Researcher award, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of the West Indies, 2014 and also received several research grants. Institute of Scholars awarded him with Research Excellence award in 2020 VDGOOD Institute awarded him with Distinguished Scientist award in the month of November 2020 He is president of Navyachethana education, research and welfare trust through which he is doing various social activities.
