In the last 20 years I have performed research in the gastroenterology field focusing on the molecular and cellular aspects involved in the development of diseases both in the intestine as well as the liver. In particular, my work in celiac disease has generated data important in understanding the role of miRNA in the intestine and their role in the regulation of innate and adaptive immunity in this disorder. Moreover, I took part in the large multicentric studies that, performing genome-wide association studies, shed furter light on the genetic predisposition to celiac disease.
