Editorial Board
Gianluca Pellino has an M.D. degree and is a Ph.D. student in translational medicine. He serves as a Member of General Surgery Clinical Staff (Registrar Level) at Università degli Studi della Campania "Luigi Vanvitelli", Naples, Italy. Dr Pellino has studied medicine at the Second University of Naples, Naples, Italy, and graduated in 2008. He completed the Residency Programme in general surgery in 2016. He was awarded the ESCP Coloproctology Fellowship to attend the Royal Marsden Hospital, London with Professor Tekkis and the Erasmus+ Traineeship to serve as Academic and Clinical Fellow at the St. Mark's Hospital, London, with Mr Warusavitarne. In 2018 he has been awarded the 12-month European Coloproctology Fellowship of the Spanish Association of Coloproctology, and is attending the Colorectal Unit of University Hospital La Fe in Valencia as Colorectal Fellow. He served as a regional representative (Campania), Italian Society of Colorectal Surgery (SICCR), and was a Website Committee Member of the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP). He is in the Communication Committee of the ESCP and of the SICCR since 2018, and is one of the Website Editors of the SICCR. Pellino is also a Member of the European Crohn's and Colitis Organisation (ECCO) and Member of the American Society of Colorectal Surgeons (ASCRS), the Italian Group for the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IG-IBD), and Italian Society of Surgery (SIC). He is the co-chair of EuroSurg Collaborative (2017-2018), vice-chair of ItSurg Collaborative (since 2017), and one of the National Lead for Italy of GlobalSurg 3 Study of the GlobalSurg Collaborative. His special interests are inflammatory bowel diseases, colorectal cancer, and proctology, with particular emphasis on surgical treatment of these diseases and surgical training. He has been working on pelvic exenterations for locally advanced and recurrent colorectal cancer, TaTME surgery for benign conditions, and advanced laparoscopic GI surgery. He is Junior Editor of Techniques in Coloproctology, and is member of the Editorial Board of Gastroenterology Research and Practice, World Journal of Gastroenterology, BMC Surgery.  He serves as reviewer of several journals, including Colorectal Disease, European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, World Journal of Gastroenterology, Digestive Surgery, BMJ.
