With a pharmaceutical degree in Korea, upon his PhD in 1997 at Sungyunkwan University of Korea, Suk Woo Nam was nominated a permanent professorship at Faculty of Medicine where he initiated a laboratory of oncogenomics in the Department of Pathology, College of Medicine, The Catholic University of Korea. Over the last 12 years, he has focused his scientific interests on the topics related to life-threatening disorders including cancer and toxicity. With his expertise in medical genomics, epigenetic gene regulation and non-coding RNAs, he has established a series of platforms for functional genomics, identified novel oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes in human hepatocarcinogenesis, trained tens of postgraduate students, published numerous SCI journal papers and book chapters, edited/reviewed for many academic journals, worked as a guest professor in many foreign universities and institutes, coordinated/participated in several EU/national projects, and received many academic honors including Pfizer Medical Research Award (2014) and Basic Research Award of The National Research Foundation (2014). Innovative, translational and longstanding research has ever been a pursuit in his academic career.
