Editorial Board
Dr. Fraquelli graduated in medical studies in 1989. She completed her post-graduate education in Gastroenterology and Endoscopy with honours (70/70 cum laude) and in 1993 received her Ph.D. in Gastroenterology in 2003 from the University of Milan. Dr. Fraquelli has held an Adjunct Professorship at the Postgraduate School of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy of The University of Milan since 2001. Dr. Fraquelli focuses her scientific interests on matters such as iron overload, ultrasound and non-invasive assessment of liver fibrosis, bowel ultrasound in patients with inflammatory bowel disease and other chronic intestine diseases. Following her Masters in “Methodology of systematic reviews of medical literature” at the University of Milan (2001) Dr. Fraquelli has also directed her medical focus on the methodological aspects of diagnostic research and since 2009 she has been the Editor of the Hepato-Biliary Group (HBG) at the Cochrane Collaboration (Copenhagen, Denmark). With well-established clinical practice and research expertise over 20 years in ultrasound liver imaging, contrast agents and methods for the non-invasive assessment of liver fibrosis Dr. Fraquelli has become the head of service for the ultrasound/non-invasive techniques at the Gastroenterological Division of the Fondazione IRCCS Cà Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico in Milan. As such she looks after a large cohort of patients with chronic liver disease under surveillance for HCC and a large cohort of patients with IBD and coeliac disease. Dr. Fraquelli also sits in the Editorial board for the Journal of Digestive and Liver Disease, which is the official organ of the several organisations including: the Italian Association for Hospital Gastroenterologists and Digestive Endoscopists(AIGO), the Italian Association for the Study of the Liver(AISF); the Italian Association for the Study of the Pancreas (AISP), the Italian Association for Digestive Endoscopy (SIED), the Italian Group for the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IG-IBD) and the French Society of Gastroenterology - Société Nationale Francaise de Gastroentérologie (SNFGE). Between February 2010 and 2013 Dr. Fraquelli sat as a Governing Board member of AISF (Italian Association for the Study of the Liver). From February 2013 to date she has been an Executive Board member of FIRE (Italian Foundation for liver disease research). Mirella loves skiing, good books and spending time with her family and friends.
