I was born on October 18, 1973 in Breno (Brescia), a small town in northern Italy. I began my medical education at the University of Brescia, first by earning a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree in 1998, and then  a Specialization degree in General Surgery in 2004. Next, I enriched my medical education and surgical training with residential courses and visiting periods in excellent medical centers in Italy, France, and the United Kingdom. Currently, I am a general surgeon and specialist in surgical oncology in the 3rd Division of General Surgery of the Spedali Civili of Brescia, and an Associate Professor of General Surgery in the Department of Clinical and Experimental Sciences of the University of Brescia. On April 4, 2017, I have been awarded the Italian National Scientific Abilitation as Full Professor in General Surgery. In October 2018 I became Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). My surgical track-record (in election, as well as in urgency/emergency) covers all fields of general surgery with both traditional methods and the latest mini-invasive techniques (advanced laparoscopic and robotic). In the past few years, gastrointestinal and hepatobiliopancreatic surgical oncology are two fields for which I have developed a special surgical interest. I also perform organ harvesting. With regards to my scientific activity, I focus on gastrointestinal surgery (esophagus, stomach, colon and rectum), hepatobiliopancreatic surgery, and emergency surgery. I attend national and international medical congresses as invited speaker, moderator, or discussant, and I publish the findings of my research projects in international journals with peer-review. In September 2016 I co-founded the non-profit organization RicerChiAmo, whose mission is to promote scientific research on gastrointestinal tumors.
