Luca Roncucci is Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy. He is involved since 1984 in colorectal cancer research, with several approaches: epidemiological (population-based Colorectal Cancer Specific Registry of Modena, Northern Italy), clinical genetic (Hereditary Non-Polyposis Colorectal Cancer, HNPCC, Familial Adenomatous Polyposis, FAP, and rare polyposis syndromes), molecular genetic (mismatch-repair gene mutations in HNPCC), histopathological (early microscopic lesions in colorectal carcinogenesis, first report of aberrant crypt foci on human colorectal mucosa, and first report of mucin-depleted foci with other authors), biological (cell proliferation, apoptosis, inflammation in human colorectal carcinogenesis: for this project he got a grant from the Associazione Italiana per la Ricerca sul Cancro (AIRC) in 2009). Active member of the American Association for Cancer Research since 1988. Member of the Italian Association of Gastrointestinal Familial and Hereditary Tumors since 2002. Member of the Italian Society of Internal Medicine since 2003. Reviewer for several scientific journals (in the fields of Oncology, Gastroenterology, Pathology, Cellular Biochemistry) and for scientific grants (European scientific societies).
