With a medical degree in Brazil, and a PhD in 2000, Claudia Cardoso was nominated a permanent professorship at Faculty of Medicine of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro where she created the Type 2 Diabetes Program. With this program many areas of research in type 2 diabetes are been developed in Internal Medicine (Endocrinology, Cardiology, Geriatric) and in Occupational Therapy, Physical Education and Nursing . She also participates of Arterial Hypertension program. New areas of research are been initiated in endothelial dysfunction (macro and microvascular) and in pharmacogenetics. Over the last 20 years, he has focused his scientific interests on the topics related to Internal Medicine, mainly on following themes diabetes mellitus, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, arterial hypertension, repolarization parameters, systemic lupus erythematosus, and perioperative management. Most relevant research, performed up to now, are in type 2 diabetes, regarding new prognostic factors for morbidity and mortality related to diabetes. And she also has important contribution in research in resistant hypertension.
