Maria Gazouli, is an Assistant Professor of Molecular Biology, School of Medicine, University of Athens, Athens Greece. Dr Gazouli’s work refers mainly to molecular basis of diseases mainly autoimmune diseases (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) and gastrointestinal cancer, and to molecular detection of pathogens and the investigation of the pathogenesis of the diseases they cause to humans and animals. These activities have produced 142 publications in peer reviewed journals, 2532 hetero-citations, 120 announcements in scientific congresses that were awarded in 18 cases 1 granted International Patent and 4 European Patent Applications. Among her interests is the investigation of the role of mycobacterial infections to the causation of sarcoidosis and Crohn’s disease, ane the molecular and genetic basis of Crohn’s disease, Ulcerative colitis, and Irritable bowel syndrome. Furthermore, her research is also on the GI cancer pathogenesis. Recently Dr Gazouli was involved in the incorporation of nanotechnology to the detection of pathogens and cancer cells, and she works on the development specific nanoprobes for cancer molecular imaging and theragnostic approaches.
