Matteo Fassan is a cancer researcher with expertise in molecular pathology and histopathology of the gastrointestinal tract. He received his medical education and his specialty training in Surgical Pathology at the Padua University, and was post-doctoral fellow at the Kimmel Cancer Center of Philadelphia (2006-2007), and visiting scholar at the Ohio State University of Columbus (2013). At present, he is Professor of Ppathology at Padua University. Molecular pathology of the non-neoplastic, pre-neoplastic, and neoplastic lesions of the gastrointestinal tract and the respiratory system are the main fields of his scientific interest. He focused his research on microRNAs' dysregulation in human pathology and microRNAs' use as innovative biomarkers to be included into clinical practice. He also has long-standing interests in murine models of human disease. On these topics, he has published more than 450 articles in international scientific journals, and co-authored 6 books' chapters. He is active fellow/member of the Italian Society of Pathology (SIAPEC-IAP), the Italian Society of Gastroenterology (SIGE), and the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR).
